Best way to keep organized?
Well, I guess this is what I get for getting 350 NES games (going from 250 to 600, counting all duplicates and variants), and not keeping them in an orderly manner. Anyway, I need some tips from you guys... How do you keep your collections organized? Shelf displays, plastic containers, sturdy cardboard boxes...how do you do it? Also, if you do it via shelves, and if you have blueprints, those would be nice, too
.
Reason I ask: Today I decided I'd take the day and try alphabetizing everything and figuring out what variants I have and all that mess... I've been working since 11:45 AM EDT in an 82°F (28°C) room, sweating like crazy (as I can't stand any heat above 75°F very well) with 2-3 short breaks, and have managed to get through the letter "E". So yeah, any help here would be greatly appreciated
.
Edit: Here's how I was going to organize... Back before I went headlong into the NES collecting river, I bought 12 55-quart plastic totes, and I was going to use them, fitting at least one or two systems' worth of games into each tote (I've nearly 800-900 non-NES games, btw). But then when I started collecting NES, I noticed one tote was holding only about 150 loose carts, and I realized that if I ever went and started looking for boxes and manuals that I'd really be up a creek. So right now, I have what boxes are sorted on a shelf, and what games are sorted are in a flat tote (something in the range of 120 games in that tote), and everything that isn't sorted is somewhat scattered to the four winds, lol.

Manuals I store in a container also alphabetized.
mb7241, alphabetizing goes WAY faster is you can convince someone to help you. Even if it is one more person, it will cut your time in more than half.
***i had to buy my wife clothes to get her to help, but still, it went faster... lol
I've found it easier to sort things out by publisher myself, but maybe that's just me
I agree 100%, and the boxes display MUCH nicer when they're lined up on the shelf with like boxes - all uniform.
As for carts, I go by publisher too, but stored seperately from the boxes so I don't have to open 2 boxes (game's box and a box protector) every time I want to play a game.
Keep an organized list of what you have, and a duplicate list (and be sure to update it). This is what I've found is the best way to stay organized.
I wish there was something crystal clear to do. i just don't know if i should build for extras or what. i wouldn't want to waste my time. we're all in the same boat it seems.
if there was a nice custom shelving unit made for this. lets say if we got like 40 of us together. we could do it. probably cheaper. The company i currently work for, makes displays for stores. like the displays for, playstation 3, stuff like that, we deal a lot with liquor and clothing, some electronic. we use metal, wood, wire, combo deals. I could see a nice wire unit, some wood sides, with some plexi doors with nintendo printed on it. maybe locking at the bottom.
i'm just thinking. oh well. let me know. i'm just rambling today.
