[Q]: GB - The Flintstones - King Rock Treasure Island

Hello

I found it time to let go of my own old Gameboy games. While checking out current market prices I was suprised The Flintstones appears to be a rare game.

I bought this game in Europe in the '90 (where I live) and it has been in my possesion ever since. For some strange reason the game is the US-version. It came with a typed page which basically had the manual summarized in Dutch/French. It came with the game, but I have no clue who put it there. The store, the importer, ...

I also read there are some fakes out there, and I was wondering if you guys can assess the authenticty? Is there a way to tell (and convince a potential buyer) without opening the cartridge? If I need to open it, how do I do that? What special screwdriver, ... If it is a fake, then it was already a fake when I bought it in the '90.

I compared it to this one (which I think is fake): http://www.amazon.de/The-Flintstones-King-Treasure-Island/dp/B001E7OLTO/ref=pd_sxp_redirect

Mine looks better because it has the "Made in Japan" on the cartridge and the seal of Nintendo on the cartridge is not cut off.

Here are the pics of my game: imgur album

Thank you in advance

What's the screwdriver type called to open a cartridge?

  • Yeah the one on Amazon looks to be fake to me. Jone shown the exact same fake before a few years back:

I guess if you don't have a screwdriver to open it, try to show the inside of the connectors-- sometimes fakes can look totally different from the real ones by having different connectors.
  • Will be following and reading through that other thread, looks interesting.
  • your's looks correct. A lot of the rarer US games actually did get shipped to europe. Cool Ball, F1 Pole Position come to mind. It is possible that they just added the multi language manual to the package on import. I actually bought a few dreamcast games the same way. came with a black and white french instruction insert.
  • whats with all these systems have a rare flinstones game?
  • Thank you for your insight. When I have the right tools to open the cartridge I'll make a pic of the chip and will come back again.
  • The special screwdriver has finally arrived.

Here is a pic from the chip.

Based on what I have seen in previous threads, I can say this looks good.

    What do you guys think?

  • on the bootleg versions there is no "made in japan" on the label. pretty shure this is real. and there is nintendo on the back of the pcb right ?

EDIT: sh*t so there are bootlegs with made in japan on it,
  • I just checked. It has.

  • In a slight thread jack, what's a CIB near mint PAL version worth?
  • i did bought us versions of this game in europe long the years and other guys i know to. but did bought a CIB bootleg to in europe
  • I have the Pal version and normally it isn't really expensive.
  • Yeah, yours looks pretty good. It doesn't show the typical signs of an actual bootleg IMO.
