Good stuff Lincoln. Now I can sleep at night knowing I didn't miss anything.
There's some truth to that. I bought a lot about 15 minutes from where this was sold a few hours before it was listed. The reseller immediately put it up on ebay and sold. I don't remember how much bug for some reason 2800 is in my head. Maybe someone else remembers....
I was told I was a massive losers weeper today (Monday). One of my coworkers came up to me earlier this morning and said,
"Man I wish I still had your phone number. There was a yard sale right down the road this weekend (my home and job are on the same road) and he had about 10 giant plastic tubs full of nothing but NES and SNES carts. Every one was $5 no matter what it was. Obviously I don't know which ones were good or not good, but I know you would have liked it. There were probably 300 games I'd honestly say."
went to garage sales last weekend. went up to a sale and asked if they had any video game stuff. they told me they just sold an n64 with 3 controllers and a couple games for $25. im still mad about it
Was out-of-town the last couple days, so I stopped by the local re-seller. Noticed Power Instinct on the back shelf of commons and snatched it up. Thatexhilaration vanished real fast when I noticed it didn't have a price tag. So I took it up, and as expected they looked it up on eBay, and then marked it at $29.99...
THEN, to add insult to injury
I went back with my brother so he could try to pick up a 360 game. I went back to the SNES racks, and noticed ANOTHER Power Instinct. This one was marked $12.99. So I brought it up and... he says the price tag is too old and he has to look it up. And then marks it at $29.99.
Nice Dreamcast lot that popped up on craigslist for $40. It had been up for 33 minutes when I responded, but I was too late. Someone was already coming to snatch it.
This is the ad:
Sega Dreamcast lot. Console, 13 games, 2 controllers, 3 memory cards. Missing av cable but I'm sure that can be located fairly inexpensive as well. Priced to sell, moving cleaning out storage.
About a month ago I met a lady at a yard sale who said she had some Sega Genesis and CD games and consoles and was willing to part with them, but she had to find them in her storage container...well a month of texting back and forth, coming up with the games I wanted and didn't want...today she texts me "Going through all of these games brought back memories, so we're going to keep them, sorry."
A MONTH OF LEADING ME ON...fucking bitch. I hate people like that.
I have a losers weepers that is among one of the biggest regrets of my life. I was given an opportunity to purchase a factory sealed Super Bowling for the N64 in mint condition. the price they asked?? first they wanted $5 and I said no not interested so they said how about $1 and again I said not interested as I don't like sports games. instead I bought his loose copy of super smash bros N64 for $5 (naively thought this was a better deal). I still think about it to this day over 8 years later.
Hit a yard sle this am. Asked about games and sure enough the older gentlemen says they have old nintendo and games in the basement. He sends the kids into ask grandma about them but the kids come back out and says grandma doesn't want to sell them instead wants to "maybe set it back up" or "maybe sell them later on ebay". No matter what I said I just couldn't get a chance to even see what games she had though he did mention final fantasy and Zelda.
I did buy a buck knife in the sheath for 1 buck and those are not cheap so happy I didn't walk away empty handed....
Today at a garage sale I see a PS2 Guitar and ask about games. Sold first thing... PS2 plus 100 games (!) for $25 (!). Head into another sale and hear someone else asking about games. The guy goes inside and comes out with an N64 lot. Snowboard Kids 1 + 2, Zelda Ocarina, Mario Kart and another 5-7 I couldnt tell plus the system... $20-25.
No chance at the first one. So close on the second.
A few weeks ago I went into a Goodwill Store and asked to look at the PS1 games I'm rummaging through the stack of outdated maddens when what do I see, none other than Suikoden 2 my eyes light up and I just stare at it. I then realize that something doesn't look right. The print work looks terrible. I open the case to see a CDR with the title Suikoden 2 across it in Sharpe. But hay, for $1 I had to buy it. But when I got home it sadly didn't work.
I once passed on a factory sealed, VGA graded 85 copy of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom for the nes. It was only 50 bucks, that decision will haunt me for a long time.
A copy of Perfect Dark NFR sat at one of the local shops for $30. At the time I didn't know why it was $30. I looked at it for about ten minutes almost bought it but passed.
Went to a the goodwill yesterday and found an F Zero game for Gamecube for a buck! I rarely find cool Gamecube stuff anywhere. I pop it open and it's empty Then I go to a different goodwill and find Crash Bandicoot Warped for 1.95! You guessed it... empty.
Found a HUGE Pioneer Laseractive lot at a very fair price last night while browsing Craigslist. Immediately emailed the guy and he responded this morning to let me know that I had just missed out by a day.
Responded to a CL ad. Box full of FREE NES games that "her son had left behind". Thought it was a troll but she emailed me back saying I was the second responder. It had been up like 28 minutes haha.

Same experience a few days ago with several games at a Goodwill I decided to check out. I was excited to see the Wii games cases in good condition, but they were empty. More money to spend on other items I guess.
Happens to me with VHS tapes a lot. Like stupid stuff I'm interested in like Jason or Halloween movies. You slide the tape out and it's Men in Black in a Friday the 13th sleeve. Enough to make you cry.

Same experience here... I've been looking for a copy of Crash Bandicoot 1 for a while, and so far I've seen it twice at Goodwill, always missing the disc.
I once found a Super Smash Bros Melee case with inserts and manual, but no game, at the same Goodwill. I decided to buy it anyway. So that was kind of a losers weepers turned finders keepers: no game, but the case sold for like $25.
I got Banjo Tooie for 2 dollars at a thrift store. The problem is, it didn't work, even after I cleaned it. I don't mind that much, because it was only 2 dollars for a game that isn't too hard to find.
You know when you watch an item for 6-7 days, planning on sniping at the end. And then with about 5 minutes left, you get distracted by some other webpage or something, and miss your opportunity?
It's even worse when it's over a game that is freaking never up for auction ><
I've been getting backdoored more often than not in the last 1+ year with facebook group and craigslist sales. Also, people early-birding any garage sale that mentions anything video game related. I've quit going to any advertised video game garage sales because even if I show up an hour early (which I think is rude and not to mention inconvenient for me) I still miss it. I've narrowed down at least one of the culprits (backdooring & early-birding) to a local NA member. I won't name them but goddammit this is getting really old.
Anyway else remember when this hobby wasn't cutthroat at all?
uggg... Went to a local store today and the owner was in. This store has a super cool manager that usually give me about 25% off of ebay value on games over $50. This owner however is quite different, I found 3 uncomon games, took them to the counter and he proceed to reprice them via Amazon while I stood there. The entire time I could see the PC screen. one one he even had teh balls to say "Looks like this one goes for $59.99 on Amazon" I think we could do $75 on it." The problem is that the store is an hour away from my house and I never know who will be running it.
I was also going to pick up a Surge while I was there and he told me that they a $3, and that the store is the only one in Indiana selling it... I told him that I would pass because all the gas stations in town have it for $1. He got the deer in the headlights look on that one. lol

Same thing here man! In 2009 a local guy started ebaying and would go to houses at 6:00am if they advertised games. He made garage sales pointless for me, I went from finding tons of games, to only finding afew commons after that. He always started 2 hours before sales opened, and was finished before I started(I'm not one to knock on doors to find games) The only places I found games after that was at unadvertised sales.
Craigslist is the same way, I found tons of games. More than I could even buy prior to 2012, but now there are 2 guys locally that put out 2-3 buy adds aday, and even flag everyone elses. I havent had a good CL haul in 2 years. The last one I had I had to drive 2 hours for, and the ladys boyfriend pulled 3/4 of the games out of the lot and demanded the full price we had decided on. I only bought that one because I needed afew of the games in the lot.

Start putting up fake garage sale ads to divert him.

That sucks. Sounds very similar to my area. Things used to be great and I had good relationships with other collectors/gamers in my area but this new breed of collectors is down right terrible. Not to mention Damn near every garage sale I do find anything at is high end eBay prices. Hopefully things turn around for us both but I wouldn't hold my breath. What doesn't kill me makes me whinier haha

Saw this sad scene at the Goodwill Outlet I frequent today. Pour a 40 for signs gone by...
I couldn't find the rest of the sign either.
