This thread is depressing. Shouldn't we just be happy it was released at all (ROM release party)? I guess some people always have to complain about something.
Dream - Glad you got the boxing glove icon I was wondering why they hadn't given one to you yet.
I was recently hacking Mario Bros. to feature Billy Mays (don't ask), so I had an emulator handy, so I figured 'why not?' Wow is all I can say. Not in a bad way, though. Say I'm crazy, but I actually liked it! Maybe it was just the fact that this saw the return of Iron Mike... Oh well, it was totally worth it.
Didn't mean to come off as complaining. I didn't know there was an agreement to watermark this. Wanted to offer the opportunity by announcing a non-watermarked copy here so that the actual people who donated know that they have the option. No disrespect to anybody, especially to bunnyboy. You rock. Again, if I'm breaking any rules by distributing this, let me know and I'll stop responding to the PMs on this site.

You never PMed me for the link. Why the plural "ROMs" in "I just played the ROMs Michael made"? I edited only one, and all I took out was the watermark - two lines - so I don't know how you would see any other changes.

Exactly! Great point. An edit of an edit. I guess I wish things were all around simpler, don't you?
I want to try to end on a brighter note with another inspirational quote from Mike Tyson, "I want to rip out his heart and feed it to Lennox Lewis. I want to kill people. I want to rip their stomachs out and eat their children."
Resume the partying, Garth. Party on, Wayne!
(Also, thanks to all of the rad, generous offers to help dump my stuff. The people here are amazing. I hope to make up for any hard feelings by some releasing of my own. Won't nearly be as exciting as an 8-bit Don King, though.)
I stand corrected. NGD, you are absolutely correct. There was something wrong with the Game Over text.
Everyone who PMed me, download again from the link I gave you. I started over again and that one should work now. Just to make sure everyone hears this, I will PM those who contacted me to also let them know.
Not really a total pity, because of dickwads like this I have more comic material. Every month I think, what will I do this time, only to be graced with yet another pointless argument. Thanks!
looks like thenesdump got ahold of MTIPP and there is no mention of nintendo age... hmmm its a pitty
Isn't that coinheaven's site? Didn't he make a thread on here selling them anyway?
I'd like to publicly announce that I will never donate towards any proto release ever again simply because of what this has turned into. I didn't spend $30 so a bunch of people could run around complaining about a damn NA watermark, especially when it was mentioned in the donation thread well before even $1000 was raised.
If you weren't along for the entire process then YOU NEED TO STFU (or at least make another thread and not crap on this one) end of story.
I'm really stoked that this project has been completed! I look forward to the next game we all want to work on together (and hopefully get a sexy icon for that one, too ).
To the naysayers, gtfo of our release party thread. You didn't donate, you don't get to whine. I personally am very proud to have NA on the ROM image being passed around, because without us nobody would have anything. Besides, if I'm not mistaken, there was legal information REMOVED from the title screen, too. So just editing out the NA part isn't restoring it to the original "unaltered state", just discrediting those who ponied up to get this done.

Well, I haven't spoken up but I'd like to thank everyone involved. I haven't been around much and I was pretty surprised and excited to come to NA and see MTIPO on the front page! I think that's seriously awesome that you guys all worked together to get this out there, and I really appreciate the effort and sacrifices that all involved put forth.
That said, I think it's silly to get up in arms about the watermark. I really appreciate Mike's ROM that removed it. The intellectual property contained in the ROM isn't ours to call our own, and Mike was no more or less out of line for removing it than those who added it in the first place.
This isn't worth getting upset over, as for me, I'm gonna open a beer and play some MTIPO and hope some of ya'll join me Thanks guys!!!
I'd like to publicly announce that I will never donate towards any proto release ever again simply because of what this has turned into.
OK. Then I'd like to publicly announce that I'll fill in for this guy in the future, despite being in complete disagreement with the watermarking policy and the absurd amount paid. The ROM would have been worth more than $20 to me if I'd known about the donation drive ahead of time.
Anyone else want to get bent out of shape over nothing? I have friends. Some of them might have $20.
There's really no point in arguing about this stuff. The cat is out of the bag already! Text is superficial and has nothing to do with the game itself. Focus your rage on the alien scum... the important thing is that we all now have this historical proto available to play. For pete's sake...
I didn't contribute to the release, but I appreciate everyone who did. Dead sexy icons.

Sure 1500 is a lot, that most of us wouldn't be willing to pay, but 20 a person is a steal to be able to get new ROMs IMO. Not everyone likes the watermarks, which is fine....but we raised the cash here, and it is just a small way to get NA some exposure. The originals for every game are safely tucked away and backed up and will never be lost which is honestly the most important thing. Small amounts of text can easily be changed but at least we have the actual game to now play.
If we plan to do projects like this in the future then the whining and bickering needs to stop, and stop now. No one was forced to donate, and if you didn't donate you have zero grounds to bitch at getting free ROMs. Like I said before, if you aren't happy with the projects, then start your own up and do it your way. We were very happy to bring the game out of the closet and hope to do more very shortly. If you have nothing nice to add to the thread now, then just move on cause we want to actually enjoy getting the game out there for the masses.
Has anyone beaten the game yet, I want to see the ending ~~NGD
My brother was able to beat the released version of the game awhile ago. It takes a lot of practice, there is actually a pattern to the characters, but it's a lot less intuitive than Mike Tyson's Punch Out.
The coinheaven thing was exactly what I knew was going to happen eventually. Hence ROMs from michael given to him for exactly the reason to HAVE THE WATERMARK IN THE FIRST PLACE.
I'm still shocked about this whole thing. I spent time/effort/money to acquire these things, and I think people are just used to games coming up for free from other sources and not having to pay one red cent.
It's legal info. It protects the validity of future repros/protos. That's it. It's something nice that NA provided, yet people want to just take advantage of the situations.
I have other games I would like to bring out, but I am not bringing them out for free, that's all. Other games will eventually be released, but I think people should be HAPPY that the game is out there, and not complaining about it.
In the Turbo Grafx community, there is a gentleman who pays above and beyond prices for unreleased protos. $5000 for unreleased ones, and they DON'T see releases. It only takes one person to want a game and hide it away forever, so instead of whining and complaining about some text, you should be thankful and happy the game was made available. If you have a problem with the price, think of it this way...$1500 for the ROM is a lot better than the $7500 I wanted for the game which I may have never gotten, but the game wouldn't have been released, and call me a horder BLAH BLAH BLAH whatever you want, but I've said I am more than willing to have games dumped, and have done that many times with 3-4 groups of people, but I want to be compensated for my time/effort/money involved in obtaining these things.
Some protos I would never have been able to OBTAIN unless I purchased $15,000 in stuff. I am not kidding about this either. Imagine having to raise that kind of money and then trying to sell the stuff you don't want in less than 2 months so you can pay these parties for tons of items.
If I have to put that risk out there and work contacts with time and effort for years, the stuff that gets released through me is going to take a little bit of cash. I don't think that's too unreasonable to ask.
Jason... you're cool as hell, man. This is just the internet. Things seem to get blown out of proportion all of the time for no reason other than someone trying to win an argument. It seems to me that your protos have been the center of many arguments lately... I, for one, appreciate your patience.
Not to mention your generosity in even sharing these protos with the world in the first place... that's awesome!

I can barely even get past the first guy, the patterns aren't easy to spot, and there aren't many good combo hits either.
