Legendary Wings NES Prototype
I was going through a box of nes games and figured this was just a game with a replaced label at first. But then I noticed it was a little heavier compared to a standard cart.
So I took it apart and google led me here: http://www.neswarpzone.com/x114.html
Unfortunately, it seems like a final US release after 5 minutes of play. Capcom possibly sent some copies over here and wanted to test the US market to see if the game was ok for a release.

The prices on ebay are all over the place for nes prototypes but are generally between $125-$275. Is this the range I should expect? Thanks for any info.

i dont know what the price is, but i was told i may possibly have an snes test cart.
Prototypes that take in a lot of money are the unreleased, undumped and dumped alike prototypes and those classic titles that we all love (Double Dragon, Mario, Zelda) and rare games. Also, having notable differences from the retail game will also drive the price higher than average.
Most of them for other platforms go for between $100 - $200 for the more common titles and those that are less interesting, or has less history and background on the game in the gaming culture.
To give you an estimate as a prototype collector myself, I would put max $200 for this in an auction. If there are any differences from retail, I'd be a lot more interested. It looks like an interesting game though based on a trailer of it. If you plan on selling it, then good luck.
Congrats on the find.
See, the thing is that this game may not be overly significant to us, but the game was unreleased in Japan / Famicom format (well someone had stolen the US version of the game, hacked its title screen and then sold bootleg Famicom carts in parts of Asia, but never officially released). So since the data is just a Famicom game + Famicom --> NES adapter, basically you have an unreleased Famicom game in your hands...
Is the title screen the US version or something else?
Is the title screen the US version or something else?
It's 100% english, I'd say a 1:1 of the USA release
Thanks for the replies guys, just wanted to make sure it wasnt super rare. I'll probably hold on to it for a while since I'm not strapped for cash. But ya, seems like it'd be worth more to a famicom/capcom collector. Thanks again for the good info.

Thanks for the answer about English or not.
Even at 100% English, you still have an unreleased Famicom game on there, since it is the game on Famicom board. If you ever decide to sell, please contact me first, and maybe we could work something out, as I would be interested in it.
