Paypal Question - recieving ebay credit when refunding with paypal

Hi everyone,



I have come across an issue when sending an item to France ($1200). I sent it nearly 2 months ago, and just today found it had been returned to sender. I have no idea why it had not been sent to the buyer.



I want to issue the buyer a refund via paypal. But I also obviously want to get back my ebay credit. Just to clarify, If I go into paypal and refund the buyer via paypal do I automatically get back my ebay fee money or do I have to do this another way? I have read the ebay forums and it is a little vague, because one of the options is that the buyer can request a refund via ebay and then I refund to get my ebay fee back. It says nothing about what would happen if I simply refund him via paypal?



Any help would be greatly appreciated! So annoyed that this has happened

    From my experience, you need to issue a transaction cancellation request through eBay to get your eBay fees back (it may be that this is no longer possible though or only possible after first refunding through PayPal). To receive your PayPal credits back, you need to refund through PayPal from within the initial payment transaction page. You could also call eBay directly about this -- I find that a direct phone call to customer service speeds things up considerably (especially to the US customer agents; use Skype if you want to avoid international rates).

    The only option in eBay I can see is a link to view the PayPal transaction- which takes me to PayPal. It seems I can then make the refund (in PayPal). I'm just worried that if I do it this way, eBay won't give me the eBay credit back as it wasn't done in eBay (despite there apparently being no option). I'd rather be proactive and organise the refund rather than getting the buyer to do something (ie send a refund request). As knowing my luck they will accidentally create a PayPal dispute instead lol.



    I've used PayPal so often but never needed to refund an item once it got to the stage of after I sent it..

    I would call eBay and find out how to process this. I once had a situation in which a return was involved and eBay wanted to keep their fees because I somehow did not process the return in the correct manner.

    I agree with PDork call Ebay so they would give you credit. They will probably ask you to issue you a refund through Paypal first but let Ebay give you that instructions over the phone.

    Another bit of perhaps useful info. The final value fees they charge are only refundable twice in a year. I was thinking about this some more and I did have a couple of auctions re-listed (thanks to lame excuses for "accidental bidding"and non-payment by the winning bidders) and eBay was charging the final value fees and were refusing to refund. I did end up getting the refunds for the final value, but they did mention they can only do this twice in a 12 month period. I hope you are able to resolve your issue.
