I've beaten the surfing stage, and I'm officially at Snake Pit. I'm making it consistently to the second to last snake before the end of the level, but keep getting sent into the spike balls to the left due to the speed The last two snakes are so damn fast, there's zero reaction time lmao. I can feel myself closing in on this level very soon.

Seems like you are going to surpass me I have been slacking biiig time.

I'm SO close to completing the Snake Pit. I keep getting to the second to last snake, and hitting the spikes. The timing on that one is insane. I'm sure once I get it, I won't be able to NOT do it. That's why I love this game; you literally see and feel your skill rising.

Excited to play again later this morning! Keep at it, my man

Tried again last night, still game over at the vehicle section on the lava level but am making some progress anyway.

  • Ugh I hate that lava level.

Battletoads sets up such a false promise with Level 1. The first stage is like a Double Dragon-style brawler with actual platforming. You pretty much never see that again. And why not? The first stage was bliss!

Stage 1 is a joke, lol. It's like 5 screens including the boss. I agree it's misleading, because the second half of level 2 ramps up the difficulty by like 300% immediately.

Keep at it, my man! I'm going to beat this game sooner than later. I want to see as many people as possible beating this game and upsetting the "it's too hard" dogma

Then, we can have a list of people who have beaten Battletoads legitimately. I feel like there should be an award/badge for that.
  • I still have yet to beat Volkmire's Inferno... (I always took the warp from the Snake Pit the first time I played through it), a couple months later I went back and tried to beat the whole game with no warps, when the game came up for the weekly contest. I made it as far as the last section of electric gates... but now that I've been away from the game for quite a while it will probably take me a few days of solid playing to shake the cobwebs off.
  • I'm still stuck at Snake Pit, but slightly further than I was yesterday. Slow and steady, boys.

That is the part that keeps getting me to.... I feel like I am going to "have" to beat it on my first continue because once I die and go back to 3 lives it may not be an option.

I am getting pretty close but man those last few electric gate sections are a son of a bitch!

I'm not looking forward to that electric part at all...it even threw Bootsy off of his game for a few attempts. That part looks like a genuine pain in the ass, lol.

SO close to clearing Snake Pit now, dudes! LAST SNAKE!!!
  • After my attempt just now, I'm still stuck on the very last snake in Snake Pit. I keep falling off and hitting the spikes.

Incremental progress is the key. This really is a trial and error game, because so many of the other parts which used to trip me up are cake walks now.

Is it the section with the fast moving snakes at the end or the one with the platforms?

I actually found that the second last screen was a lot more difficult than the last.

You aren't that far behind me to be honest I get passed the snake pit with 1 death now have done it a few with zero deaths.

I am thinking about just using warps now to get to the lava stage because I don't really have anything to prove on the ones before it anymore, by using warps I can dedicate more time to getting passed the vehicle section.

It's the last section (4); the one with the platforms. I just keep bumping and sliding into the spikes, lol.

Unfortunately you can't warp to the Lava.. you can only bypass it.

    Warps are placed as follows:

Very beginning of level 1 ---> warp to level 3

End of Level 3 ----> warp to level 5

3/4 of the way through level 4 ----> Warp to level 6

beginning of the second screen of level 6  ----> Warp to level 8

Ya thats okay then, as long as I can skip the first few levels thats no big deal.

  • UPDATE!

    I've officially beaten Snake Pit!!!

I gave it a damn solid run just now, and made it to and through Snake Pit without a single game over. It only took me three attempts to make it through. I swear, grinding and then taking a break until the next day has proven to be a winning strategy for me. I also made it to the very last section of Volkmire's Inferno; even through the rising/falling missle section! Damn, I love this game, lol.

    How's everyone else doing?

Seems like you have caught up to me then... I will have to put some hours in on the weekend!

Nice avatar change, that chick is a babe.

  • My avatar needs to reflect what I'm currently playing. Yes; as my girlfriend puts it, "She's a slut-babe" lol. I may or may not have attempted to convince her to be the Dark Queen for Halloween...

I'm finding that I have my highest success rates with this game when:

-I play fresh; typically around 8-8:30am. For some reason, this time period appears to be ideal for me. Any later, and I'm sloppy and can barely make it through.

-I stop playing after I reach my final game over

-Once I get my final game over, I don't play until the following day

When I deviate from this, my results suck. When I follow this, I appear to complete the portions I had a difficult time with on the previous day. I liken Battletoads to boxing/kickboxing; you need to know when to strike (play), and when to back off and get some wind back, lol.

Man we are really cut from the same cloth..... I also tired to convince my girlfriend to be the dark queen hahaha!!!

I always stop after my final game over as well.

Lastly.... did you see that Yes have been putting up Chris's Richenbacher on the stage during the shows?

I have seen reviews about the current Yes concerts, and it's literally exactly what I figured it was going to be. No true original Yes members; Howe is the closest thing now. It's weird hearing them play all of those classic songs without Anderson, let alone Chris on bass. It's definitely not Yes anymore. Chris was the last true strand. It sucks, but I expected it to be that way after he passed. The classic lineup of Anderson, Squire, Howe, Wakeman, and Bruford/White put out some of my most favorite records ever.

No arguement with what you have said man it is all true.

  • But yeah...

...Battletoads kicks ass, lol. I'm so glad to FINALLY be playing through this game completely. I'm often times surprised at my progress, even though I'm only at Volkmire's now.

I find that flying vehicle section really kicks the difficulty up because I have not been stuck at any section in the game this long.

I have not been using Bootys videos at all for help just winging it.

Bootsy has definitely taught me how to overcome areas I've had trouble with forever. You've still gotta actually do it yourself, though. Still on Volkmire's.

Who would you go as? A Battletoad? or one the Queen's henchmen?

Good question. I was actually thinking of K.C. Jones this year, because I already have the hair and height, lol. All I'd need is a mask and some toys, and I'd fit perfectly. She was going to be April O'Neil originally. Too much awesome to contain in one night, lol.

    Damn you, Volkmire!
  • UPDATE!

So I'm now making it to the very last section of Volkmire's Inferno. The last section is unforgiving. It's the only thing so far that's truly tested my nerves, lol. The funny thing is, I know there's a pattern (I can see it, and Bootsy even tells you what it is), but it goes by so fast that I always just smash into the electric. Trial and error city, to say the least.

I made three attempts yesterday: once in the morning like usual, once after lunch, and once after dinner (and a few drinks ). Ironically, despite dying in really avoidable ways on the first three levels on my third run, I made it through Snake Pit effortlessly

    How's everyone else doing?

Dude......... every run I have been doing so far has been miserable I don't know what it is wrong I have been making it to the surf level no deaths but keep losing lives on the mine section. Snake pit is a breeze now but keep having these early mess ups that make me turn it off, my runs are either hit or miss up to the lava stage.

I am at that point where I feel I need to take a little break and come back to it sadly.
  • I totally hear you, man. I'm not trying to jinx it, but I feel Volkmire's might push me to my "breakpoint" (+1 if you get the reference). I can see taking a week or so off to refresh.

Hahaha I see your reference I remember finding Hidden Treasures at a pawn shop for $1 it was an awesome score.

That's what happened to me. As a result I stopped playing and haven't returned to it in awhile now. Made it all the way to Clinger Winger three times and to be honest I have never used a warp in Battletoads. I've tried getting back to Clinger Winger again but my hands were sore and I kept screwing up (usually in Volkmire's or during the Rat Race). I think I kind of have an idea where the warps are, (kind of sparkly spots in the high speed stages?), but I've never used them. Probably should figure that out to save my sanity.

Anyway if Bootsy posts a video that covers Clinger Winger, I think that's when I'll give it another try.

I use warps sparingly, depending on how I'm feeling. Most of the time I play straight through though, as I like to get used to playing all of the sections.

I'm not looking forward to Clinger Winger.

I'm also waiting for part 3 with Bootsy. I'm hoping that's either coming out with tomorrow's Mike & James Monday, or at some point this week. Go Bootsy! He's already gotten me through some tough parts in this game. By far my favorite thing on YouTube at the moment.
