No Man's Sky
I was just watching a few videos about No Man's Sky, a crazy huge space exploration game coming out fo ps4. I want to hear your thoughts on it,
what do you think of it
what have you seen in the game that you like/dont like
thoughts on scope of the game, too big?
its taking a while to develope, worth the wait?
needless to say I'm freaking excited for this game! These type of sandbox games have really blown up since minecraft I guess and they have really become some of my favorite games. This game is the type of game where I feel like it will have a really loyal and long playerbase. I can imagine people (myself included) building crazy IRL cocpits to play this game in. (even if its a cardboard box with a tv in it) I think that this game will be explorable for many many years to come...

1) No endgame or even a semblance of an endgame. Yeah, Mindcraft is sandbox also, but it hand an endgame. As junky as it is.
2) It's just far to large in scale. I discover a planet, species, what have you and no one will ever find out that I found it because no one else will ever land here? Then what's the point?
While I'm looking forward to the game, I see two very large issues with the game that may keep it from really taking off:

There is an endgoal of the game, reaching the center of the galaxy. What that really means they haven't said, I think it's a secret for now. I'm in the same boat, I'm definitely getting the game just because of what it's trying to achieve. I hope I can find enough to do, but I imagine it will just be something I play to wind down instead of seriously play.
What I love about No Man's Sky is how it seems to break the barriers of traditional "sandbox" games. Add the fact that you can play any style you want...just explore 1 planet or galaxy or visit as many as possible, focus on combat and upgrading your ship and weapons or stay out of the fight and be an explorer or scavenger, engage and take sides in space battles, etc... It's like linearity is basically thrown out the window.
I think the development is taking a while because it's a smaller group working on it, similar to the team that developed The Witcher. They're not a huge company with a huge budget and employees all over the world.
I think it would be interesting to find an alien race (friendly, foe, or neutral) on one of these random planets in random points of light (galaxies). Maybe they communicate with you and trade or perhaps they attack you without question. I know they mentioned the many creatures and species you'll find but I didn't hear much about communicating with any aliens....so fingers crossed?! They also made mention of how getting to the center of the galaxy will be the overall goal but that some players will choose not to go there.
Overall I think this might be the start of games raising the bar for what sandbox/open world games can truly do. I think for some gamers it will be overwhelming but for others it will be a time consuming, enjoyable adventure.

This is a MUCH smaller team than CD Projekt Red. Like 10-15 compared to over 200.

Yeah I just meant "similar" in terms of how they're not nearly as big as Bethesda, EA, Rock Star, Square Enix, etc...
You're correct though, they're a smaller team than CD Projekt Red.
None of those games fulfilled their promise; nobody's gotten it right yet (either not enjoyable, too repetitive, nowhere near what was promised, etc).
I reserve no hype for these kind of games until they are released and put through the ringer.
Games like this come along every few years with Peter Molyneux-like promises of infinite space exploration.

Well they've already shown live gameplay of everything they've promised so far. Whether or not it's enjoyable for long or has glitches for everyone at launch are the big questions, but they haven't made promises for things we haven't seen. It's simply a go anywhere/do anything you want game and it works, no promises of epic space battles, cinematic story, etc.

I haven't watched any videos at all. (Like I said, zero hype.) Guess I'll have to check out a few of them and see what the hubbub is about.
some of your questions and things are answered in here, this is all the info that I have seen. This is all that I need to be super excited about this game!!
The only game I know close to what No Man's Sky is going for is a PC only title called Star Citizen which has raised 87.5 million dollars but little to show for it so far. It's being done by the guy who created Wing Commander along with 200 other people across various countries.

Meanwhile, I just read an article about a listing for No Man's Sky showing up on Amazon UK for a price point of $73. I'm not sure where it came from considering the game isn't even in the final build yet but that's what the internet tells me.
Getting closer guys, time to board the hype train. My first attempt will be waste countless hours attempting to destroy an entire planet, which probably cannot be done but Ooooooo if it does... *squeal*
Anyway, it looks interesting. As with most games, I'll wait until the reviews come out.
Is this game online only? I've been trying to avoid those at the moment.

Yes it's online only, I hate that too, but from what I hear you don't need PS+ to play which is great.

It's not online only, it can be played offline. Of course I'm sure the experiences would probably be better online but my understanding the purpose of online is to upload discoveries etc and catch game updates as there is limited interaction with other players if you ever see anyone.

Oh really? Maybe I have been misinformed. I haven't been watching it super closely because when I read it was online only I kinda lost some interest in it. But if it's playable offline I'll almost definitely get it.

Oh believe me IF this was an online only game I'd be skipping it for sure, unfortunately I've been wrong before so I wouldn't take my ramblings as gospel.
