Advice for shipping a big box of 27 games worth $1,000

I'm about to ship 27 games worth around $1,000 for some battery replacement work. I was wondering if you have any advice for such a situation?

What shipping service should I use? USPS? UPS? FedEX?

Should I insure it? Is insurance worth the cost?

Restricted delivery? (make someone have to sign for it)

etc etc

Any advice or tips you could give me would be greatly apppreciated. I'm sort of racking my brain right now over what to do.

  • Can you learn to replace the batteries yourself?

The investment for a good set of soldering tools is more or less the same cost to get the service done by someone else. Besides that I have never soldered anything in my entire life. I am affraid that I would break my games.

I recently shipped a large box close to that value via USPS, and I bought the insurance and resticted/signed delivery.  I think I paid about $40, but it's totally worth the piece of mind.  If anything happens, you've got your money back via the insurance.

    Just my 2 cents.

I'm the same way -- have a fear of the soldering iron.

Gamers who know how to do it don't seem to post easy-to-follow video guides very often.

  • Based on what other collectors have said in the past, making a claim for lost games has a low success rate. Buying insurance is more than likely throwing away money.

I always use USPS and have had excellent results with them.
  • USPS has not lost a package so far. Has the service been outstanding every time? No. I have sent items only a few times with the insurance and I at felt it was worth the small cost. I have never had to process a claim, but dealing with USPS over the phone is quite frustrating. Good luck!
