CRT Issue - degauss?

Just wondering in anybody elses experience if this is permanently screwed up or if I am able to degauss it?

I took the risk on $20 for this Sony Triniton as they are very good for gaming.

I figured so, I am not spending money on a degausser coil though they are to expensive, is there any household methods?

If I just go get a big magnet and use the same circular motion technique will it do the same thing?

  • Yes, when i was 15 i fixed my tv with just a magnet, you just gotta move it outward. I didnt have much trouble but its been so long ago. Theres a post on youtube using magnets check it out. It will give you the rest of the info you need to fix it
  • Use this method.

One final question, is there a specific pull or pull range of magnets I should be looking for?

  • Nope. i used a magnet from a broken speaker im sure you can salvage something. My guess bigger is better.
  • Alright new issue, so I am able to use the magnet to move the colours around (not sure how else to explain it) and they will stay like that but if I turn the TV off and turn it back in a few minutes later the colours return to where they were before in the top corners.

Does anybody know if this is an indication that the TV is screwed?
  • You might wanna read a topic called purity ring and convergence adjustments on CRT if you can't fix the issue with the magnets, but be very careful! Tv hold charges for a very long time. I have never needed to adjust the purity because I was able to fix my issue in the past with magnets.
  • I don't know guys I honestly think it is trash..... I borrowed a magnet from the local pawn shop guy and this thing is like super heavy ass duty it is 10x stronger than a speaker magnet and its not doing anything.
  • Have you read up on adjusting the purity ring it might fix your issue, but if you wanna give up on it than ill stand by you as well haha.

  • Sony TVs will auto degauss. You have to make them cold, like really cold, then turn them on. Mine has done this before numerous and you stick it outside in the winter, it pongs, and magically fixed.

Shit now I regret taking it apart and pissing around with all the adjustments........ hahahahaha

Its not going to get cold here for about.......3-4 months, for the $20 I spent on it I am about done with it.
  • I read about the cold start as well but not all tv has that feature to auto degauss and usually if its unplug from the outlet for awhile it should be enough to cause it to degauss. Has there been any positive result from all the hard work you put in? Or have you really given up?.

You're in Canada.  I thought it was a perpetual blizzard...?  I mean how do you play Ice Hockey when it's not cold?

Look up Windor Ontario on a map and you will have your answer haha! It boarders Detroit and is the most southern point in Canada.
