Psone disc with small chip in coating on edge.

I have this disc on a PSone game, and it has this very minor chip in the black coating on the edge. I don't think any data is compromised. Any thoughts?

  • Pop it in your computer and see how much data is on it. If it's under 500 MB total you should be good.
  • Disc shows 619.6 mb available and 619.6 used.
  • what game is it? not sure if its worth it, but they make a machine that checks the readability of discs. you may check to see if there is a company near you or online that could do that.

i forgot what company makes it. saw it a couple years back that they used them to check if games and movies were good once they had been resurfaced. they were sold to rental companies and video stores.
  • Have you tested it in a PS?
  • Yes and it tests just fine and I played for about 30 minutes. Would the outer edge be later game content ?
  • I think outer edge is music, but I could be wrong. Depending how far in the chip goes, there may not be any data there. I think those held 650 MB if I remember properly.

EDIT:  Just saw the pic, you should be fine.
  • Ok thanks a ton. I have looked at other non psx discs and it doesn't look like any data is is recorded that far out on the edge
  • Don't think anything is on the outer outer outer edge iicr. In fact, if you look on a normal CD, that part is transparent. So you should be okay.

But, if the dent created an impact crater into the information (Due to something striking it or it being dropped), then you're in trouble.
  • Your 100% good, no worries even if you want to max a cdr that has 650 or 700mb of data storage it will not burn to the outer edges.
  • Thanks a ton guys, I appreciate the input!!
  • Double post
  • CDs read from the inside ring out. Damage to the very outer edge doesn't matter much, as long as it doesn't invade into the center.
  • No. data is not writted to the edge of the disk
