I have declined two offers above $1k dating back to summer 2014. I'm also not sure if you can name any N64 rarity that is at the same level of pricing as it was in 2012.
The copy you purchased was a few months ago which you stated was at open auction and you where not bid up, which I would think means these two buyers are either not actively searching or found their copy. It is a possibilty that they did not see the auction but one would think anyone looking to drop that kinda coin would be more intune.
I'm sure OP will get $600+ provide they do sell, but until one does sell, I think a fair quote would be $600 which is the current trend.
I am not questioning the integrity of your posts bone, I'm sure you have had offers, and I am aware of this test cartridges rarety.
So next question is is the test cart as rare as the grey mm cart, and if so then put the price of my test cart at that level. I've never eeally seen many test carts in the wild or up for sale but it seem like theres more mm grey carts out there. Sorry just still dont know where to price it with such a wide range in answers.
Throw it at a $0.99 auction and let it fly. Make sure you link here so the active individuals can see it. Sounds like you have at least a couple interested parties.
Or sell it to me for $401 and make me a very happy N64 collector.

On rare items there will always be a buyer at some point. You typically hold a rare item until that buyer comes along. At any given auction there can be restrictions, such as no international bidding, a 24 hour auction that went quick, etc. It wasn't posted on NA either, and if it were, I'm sure it would have gone significantly higher.
Auction value typically acts as a floor to pricing, BIN is the ceiling, and real value is somewhere between the two. It's hard to say an auction is what them item is worth when no one has any idea of what my max bid could have been.
It wasn't just any test cart either, it was the first public auction I had ever seen on a Rev B cart period.
If your two buyers are still alive, maybe you can give us there names. But in the end, as long as they dont show up here and offer it to Lars. Highest sale was at 600$. Hell, everyone here is saying 500-600$ until someone offers more.
Only way to know if its worth 400, 500, 600 or 25 000$? Open auction.

Not necessarily, if there is an item I really want that has a substantial price tag, I may not be able to afford it at the exact time the auction ends, but perhaps I will have the funds available in a week or two after I move some funds around.
I would check yourself before calling out established members like Jone. Jone is very established in the N64 collecting scene and his opinion holds weight. His floor and ceiling comment is accurate and sure at that given time, it might be the value, but the value can change daily depending on so many factors.

Well actually no, you were saying $100-$350, which is why this whole discussion got spun up in the first place.
Nonetheless, value it as you wish, and I'm very confident this is a $1000 cart if not more.
A quick ebay searches max price was 600$. Generally its between 100-350$.

and i conclude bu saying its hard to have a real estimate.
I think the B version is worth -today- 400-500-600$ in open auction. Until a buyer decides to offer more. Is it possible? Sure! Is it possible that it goes for less? Sure! You cant say its worth 400-500-600-700$ until an auction today is over and done.
when you bought it for 600$, no one, at that time wanted or had the money to pay more. Today you say its worth 1200-1300$. So double the value you paid, when you were the highest bidder? Plausible? Yes. Sure? No. I dont believe it will. But you and I can say yes or no for sure until it happens.
See poster before me bought one for 100$, and im getting call crazy. Ouff!

There was a member here who bought a grey NFR MM for under $10, doesn't mean that is the going rate.
Says who? You think 25 000 people wants to pay 1000$ for the test carts? Maybe.
Show me proof.
I showed you JJ used to sell them for 49$ a couple of years ago. One member here says he paid it 100$. One sale on pricecharting is at 518. And the highest sale we know of went for 600$.
You can say its worth a 1000$, but as long as I dont see it. I dont believe it.
No, he bought a Mario 64 cartridge that had a white sticker that said "Test Cartridge" on it. He did not buy this test cart. He obviously doesn't even know much about it if he hasn't distinguished between the two.
Auctions go high or low all the time. It is up to the educated collectors to know whether they overpaid or got a great deal. I know I got a great deal

Between you and me and the rest of the world. I'd pay the same thing you paid for it. I think 500-600$ is a fair ammount. And you know that it is the only missing piece in my entire N64 collection. So yes im serious in buying it. So I agree its a good deal.
But 700-800-900-1000$ i would not go there. I'd rather wait.

So, you'd rather pay $1850 for a Gray MM Cart that is probably worth about $1300-$1400 (that guy overpaid and was happy to pass it to another person at that value), and yet $700+ is too much for an N64 test cart that is rarer. That's silly, you aren't acknowledging that some items are hot (selling higher than they should) and some are cold (selling lower than they should). Smart collectors buy the cold and sell the hot, you're doing the exact opposite.

Hey I'm offering $400 publicly for this one, let's make it 3 copies! To me it is like the opportunity to buy a Stadium Events at $4000 instead of $10000. Of course I'm going to be a buyer of that. This is too rare to be too cheap. Even Wideboys are an easy $300-$400 (with confirmed sales at $700-$800) and those are less demand and a bit less rarity.

Seriously? I hate to break it for you, pretty much anyone spending $500, let alone $1000 (or nearly $2000 in your case) for a cartridge, of any kind, is a "Crazy Collector".
I see about 5 WTB people (some people made multiple WTB threads) since the WTB forums was spun off (2013) for Zelda MM Gray, and 3 for the N64 test cart (one is you).

I find some comments in that 3rd thread particularly interesting:
June 7th, 2013:
"Assuming the cart is super Minty (talking about Zelda MM Gray) I'd go as high as $500. But again, $1000+ is just stupid." - level42
Which, btw, you just paid $1850 for.
And now, you are saying (about N64 test cart): "I think $500-$600 is a fair amount, but 700-1000$ I would not go there. I'd rather wait."
If you can't find the irony in these comments I don't know what to tell you. It's like Deja Vu, don't say I didn't warn you.
I collect within my means, I'm not concerned with any perceived value. I just think it is silly for someone who can provide zero proof of completed sales, as well as being a potential buyer of the item, to be talking it down. It is up to the OP to assess how it values it personally.
come on man. We know you dont want your copies to loose value. Please stop.
There is nothing to indicate these are losing value, actually the increased interest by you and other new & old members show its going up in value or atleast staying steady.

The N64 Test cart is pretty much the rarest cart for the system, bar none. At he current value I believe it to be significantly undervalued at the moment compared to it's potential value, and as more people get involved in N64 collecting I fully expect this to be the most expensive item in the entire set long term. Well advertised, I would fully expect it to crack $1000 at this point.
Asking 1000 for this is a joke since the most I've ever seen one sell for was 600 in auction which is where VALUE is evaluated is it not????? This is anywhere from 450-700 depending on how many people want this. I personally will offer a Stunt racer manual for it which last time I saw was around 550$.
I guess sculptor's cut is now a 1200$ cib since the last auction which ruined the 1800+ streak for it.
Also, to avoid any further confusion, this is the $100 "Test Cart" that was bought from Penguin, after having it for sale looong time.
Yes that's the one. I actually bought it shortly after he originally posted it for sale he just never updated his thread.
Comparing to NES this Mario Test cart would be more like Zelda test cart versus an NTF2 test cart.
Yea these were technically a test cart because they have a part number in the service center price list to order them, and they came with the white test cartridge sticker. It's hard to tell with them thou unless you have the provenance to back it up. It was most likely used more for a burn in test to make sure a system was working after repair, it's nowhere near as cool as the actual N64 test cartridge. It's funny I remember back in like 2010 Otto had 3 of the N64 test carts for $100 each and barely anyone even wanted them. My how times have changed.

And just 3 years ago Stadium Events was a $3000-$3500 game. Now it's around $10K. In 5 years people will be laughing that this cart was selling for $600-$1000.

Comparing to NES this Mario Test cart would be more like Zelda test cart versus an NTF2 test cart.
I guess sculptor's cut is now a 1200$ cib since the last auction which ruined the 1800+ streak for it.
EDIT: changed not to now

Yea these were technically a test cart because they have a part number in the service center price list to order them, and they came with the white test cartridge sticker. It's hard to tell with them thou unless you have the provenance to back it up. It was most likely used more for a burn in test to make sure a system was working after repair, it's nowhere near as cool as the actual N64 test cartridge. It's funny I remember back in like 2010 Otto had 3 of the N64 test carts for $100 each and barely anyone even wanted them. My how times have changed.

And just 3 years ago Stadium Events was a $3000-$3500 game. Now it's around $10K. In 5 years people will be laughing that this cart was selling for $600-$1000.
