Any Japanese HU cards worth looking into? or is everything pretty much release here?

The most common recommendation is to get a region modded PCE Duo. It plays nearly PCE/TG16 Hu & CD game out there, and is the cheapest option.

The PCE was wildly successful in Japan, and did better than Sega in that generation. There are some 700 games released for the system in Japan, whereas less than 150 in the US. There are tons of lists out there as to which PCE games are worth looking into.

Be warned, PCE communities tend to be pretty harsh on new people.

I hear ya there. Tried to join up on pcenginefx and deleted my account after a week or 2. Way to much childish nonsense, wasn't for me.

I should note, they were quite proud of themselves for running you out of town.

Whatta buncha lames, probably just butt hurt I beat all there Soldier Blade scores, lol

  • I remember I was 8-9, and I was with my parents out late while they were Christmas shopping. Almost on a whim, my dad picked up a Turbografx-16 and said it was for my brother and not to tell him.

Well, my brother is and was, a huge jerk (stronger words, but I'm new here and not 100% on cursing policy). I mean, I'm 34 now (he is 39) and we still don't talk when in the same room at holidays. Anyways, needless to say, he hooked it up in his room and I never got to play, save for when he was gone, which was almost never, because he was a giant loser.

I loved the Bonks from when I was a kid, and I still hate Keith Courage for the pointless grinding then non-patterned assault in the alpha zones. But I went back recently and traded in some duplicates at a local shop until I had enough for a TG-16. I only have three games in cases (Bonks adventure, Keith Courage, Splatterhouse) and is the system I probably have the least for, but I love it.

I feel lucky to be abLE to say it is a nostalgic system for me, even if many of the games aren't.

I did just scoop up three controllers to give me a full set of five for my multi-tap for like $2 each. I was stoked!

Funny story, sounds similar to me an my brother as he is 7 years older than me and we didn't get along to well growing up either. I rememebr giving him a fat lip once, lol. But we get along fine now aside from him making one bone head decision after another!

I wish I had got into turbo at a younger age but like I said in earlier posts, I barely even heard of the thing growing up. I only remember seeing the Turbo Express in a christmas catalog. My brother really wanted it but didn't get it since it was so expensive.

My collections coming along pretty well. At 17 titles CIB. There's really only a handful of regular Hu Card games i wanna get before I shift gears and start getting into some Turbo CD/import action. Need me a CD attachment or Duo first tho!
  • Cib is too rich for me. I approached collecting, in what I thought was a logical manner, but it has some draw backs. I wanted to get all the consoles first, so anything I see a deal on I can add to my collection, it's just tough trying to keep track of what I have, what things are worth, making confident jumps into what I think are good deals etc. plus some things I just don't think I'll ever get lucky on, like I want Neutopia and Neutopia II for tg16 so bad! But I got a feeling I'm not going to find those at a yard sale....
  • Received this guy in the mail. I've played some of the PSP version, can't wait to give this version a try.

I have been going to yard sales on a regular basis for almost 20 years now and I have only ever once found TG-16 items in all those years. around 2000 I came across a TG-16 CD system and about 10 games for around $50. I had to buy the system card from TZD since it didn't come with one, which was another $30 I believe. I held onto it for a few years and then ended up selling the lot for around $275. That lot in today's market is easily worth double that.

Since then I have not seen a single system, game, or controller at a yard sale or thrift store. My entire TG-16 collection now of 65+ games and various systems have all come from ebay, Amazon, retail stores, and other collectors.

Awesome man! $2 each is a nice score! When I get my controller port fixed, I'll see if I can get more controllers myself.

Also, if you're new, welcome to the forums!

Same deal here on having it a few days! I haven't quite been able to focus on it the few times I played. But I think my score is roughly at 20 million. But till I get my Turbo Duo, I haven't been trying quite so hard. The whole not being able to save my high score to whoop on it later kinda kills the drive. But I got only 1 more day till I get it, from today! Mad excited for that.
  • Sweet man! Definately want me a duo! Ive just been snapping a pic whenever I beat my score so I have a new goal. Works for now, lol. It seems working the top area gets you mad points. Though I still don't quite understand the roulette ghost clock thing. At times tho it'll give you a 2 million point bonus just for bouncing around up there killing the ghosts or whatever. Wondering if it has somethin to do with the bubbles up above which seem to form everytime you hit a ghost. Maybe they just max out and give you a 2 million bonus? I don't really know yet. You also get alot of points just by going up there and clearing out the bubbles. Oddly enough, the game reminds me of Kirby's Pinball in a way. Played that more than any other pinball game as a kid.
  • Yeah, that's an idea. I just never am altogether when I lay down and start playing for a half hour or so. I'm sort of in a daze and not focused 100%. Tonight I might have a chance to focus some, as I'm planning on not being dead tired before I crawl towards my bedroom to settle in and play. Lol.

Impressive shape for being in those USA cardboard boxes, some of the best games too!

  • I love Military Madness too! I also recommend Time Cruise if you want a decent pinball game.
  • I have the PCE version of Side Arms. Super fun.
  • Havnt updated this thread for a while but I recently picked up a new stack of games All are sealed except Sinistron.

  • Nice lot of games you got there!

    Thanks
  • Sweet collections here. As much I love Genesis, makes me disappointed that NEC did a crap job promoting the TG16 in the US. It was an awesome system with great card based games and a CD format that most of the games are playable instead of FMV garbage.

I just wish I got into the system 10 or more years ago. Other than getting a PC Duo RX and an Everdrive, I can't afford to be involved in a system where the good games are $50+. I would probably be homeless playing my TG16/PCE collection on a TG16 Express.

BTW. Anyone have an Arcade Card Duo for trade?

Aw man, how have I not seen this thread sooner.  Glad to see some Turbo love!

Hell of a start to the collection - You've got a few that have been alluding me!

  • Nice way to start a TG16 collection!

The TG16 has been one of the more recent systems I added to my arsenal and I wish I hadn't waited so long! I found a local collector that was on a FB group that was selling a US TG16 with the CD attachment with a few key games included for a nice price, so I took the plunge and that was how I started. I have since picked up small amounts of complete in case US version Hu-Cards as I find them in the wild (which is not often).

I eventually bought Rondo of Blood with some eBay bucks and completely forgot about needing the upgraded system card. I wound up finding a Japanese to US converter from a company in the UK and then found a Japanese Arcade card from a collector on a TG16 FB group. Then I was finally able to get my Rondo on and be future proofed for the all amount of Arcade card compatible games in the future.

My most recent pickup was a poorly listed US Turbo Duo lot on eBay that included about $400 worth of games, all complete in case. I had a local friend fully re-cap the console and it is working beautifully now. I have another fellow collector friend that finds them occasionally and sells them to me for good prices.

I also have a Turbo Everdrive that gets a ton of play time. It keeps me satisfied since the hunt for the genuine articles for TG16 can be long and costly.

My collecting goals moving forward are to only collect complete in case (I don't ever look for the outer boxes), and add the Arcade card Japanese exclusives, in addition to more CD games.

Here is how my collection looks now:

    Nice games!

Now you'll just have to have another sealed box opening party and then play and beat 'em all.

    Done!
Havnt opened any yet, mainly cause I've been playing other games but I will here soon!
  • I gotta say, if there's one company that put it down besides Nintendo, Sega, Sony and Microsof, and Neo Geo in gaming it was Hudson Soft with the Turbografx! I've had such a great time with this system! It's almost been a year since I got the system and I still play it daily!

I'm sure Atari should be in there somewhere as well!
