Game Gear won't power on at all?

So I bought a CIB "Working" Game Gear, but can't get it to power on at all.  Cosmetically it looks great and I tried various combinations of 6 AA batteries.  I did notice a slight bit of corrosion on two connections (1 each side), and I scraped it clean, but still no luck.



Any ideas?  I'm thinking about buying a Power Supply to see if that works, but I figured I'd ask NA for any ideas first.

    Game Gears always need repair. The capacitors fail overtime or the battery contacts could be faulty.



    You should at-least see a Red LED indicator though.

    So if it's just the battery contacts, would the AC Power Supply work? And if it is a capacitor, then nothing works until it is replaced?



    I didn't see a LED indicator so I'll have to try again and see what happens.

    Yes, the AC adapter works even if the battery compartments have a problem (usually due to battery corrosion). Just use a Genesis Model 2 power supply.



    At worst a GG with bad caps should briefly power on and then auto shut off. No power at all isn't a good sign.

    Can 100% promise you its caps, they all fail. I have 10 GameGears and every one of them has Cap problems ranging from not working at all to screen issues, no volume ect. The one I had recapped that now work did not work with AC or battery power it was the best condition one I had.



    Going to screen mod it next.

    So, follow up question, what is a "bad caps" Game Gear worth, maybe $20? And a working one, maybe $40-$50?

    At that point its all about condition, but around 10-20, working condition original caps would be around 40 and recapped would be 80+.  Cappy part about the caps in the Gamegear systems is they leak on the PCB and could possibley destroy the system, I have seen it in a few of them not to common but it can happen.

    Majesco gamegear systems usually fetch higher due to the system being redesigned and having a better stock LCD, I have not seen one yet with bad caps but I am sure they are out there.

    According to this post at Sega-16, the Majesco Game Gear is overrated. It's not "redesigned" and its LCD is only slightly better than the later produced Sega-made Game Gears.

    I hope you are able to get your GG working. Thus is the reason I have been hesitant to pick up a GG, working or not.Best of luck on your repair! One question, would it be too late to return? I do not, like purchasing items in "working" condition that do not work, I do jot bother with it unless it is well worth the trouble of repair, which has yet to be the case with my 1 or 2 returns on eBay.
