Help with my 'new' HD-DVD player (Toshiba HD-A2)

Okay... before I get made fun of.. I just bought an HD-DVD player. I realize it's a dead format but I have a collection of unopened HD-DVDs from previous transactions and figured I'd buy one for the hell of it. Right away it doesn't work. I can play DVDs but not HD-DVDs. When I insert the, I get a message saying the format is not DVD and it can not be played. I was told I may need to download the newest firmware, burn it, and manually upgrade the machine.

Anyone know where I can get the firmware files... or how to burn them/upgrade the machine?

Thanks in advance

  • i have a couple hd dvd players, this happened to one of mine, the hd dvd laser is dead. these have two separate lasers in them, one for hd dvd, and one for dvd, cd, ect.. return it if you can because all you have now is a glorified dvd player. no firmware update will correct this.
  • I own a Betamax player so I can't say shit.
