PCE Engine Turbo Tap on a US Duo

So I just got my PCE Engine turbo tap today to use on my US American Duo. But it seems to glitch, and not work or cause the game to freak out and not function properly. I swore they were completely the same to use for the console in turns of pin connection and the whole 9 yards. But it doesn't work, or work right. Anyone know if it has to have the pin layout modified or something along those lines, or did I just get a bad turbo tap?

    I thought Japanese controller ports were smaller than north american, or was that the turbo duo that was smaller? XD

    The Turbo Duo has a mini din port, just the like Japanese consoles. So they're "supposed" to work together. But perhaps that's not entirely true. Trying to see if the few I have seen were modified or if mine is just not working properly.
