I didn't win all the cups on TGR2. Still two cups misses, I will attempt today or tomorrow.
It's like I beaten the game in normal mode, I miss the two hardest cups.
I really advice you to play this games, I too underrated it. A good aspect of these "contests" is that you discover very good and surprising games.
Pay attention: this game has a lot of strategic things, so if you want an immediate racer this is not the game for you. But if you want to play a racer like no other this is your horse ;-)
There is a way to claim a game? For example, what happens if now somebody beats Bomberman 64 while you are playing it?
I was a bit worried about this when I was playing TGR2 haha.
The first person who does a game gets the point(s). For example, I can say that I'm playing Bomberman 64 at the moment, but if a member feels like he can do it before me, no problems. We don't claim games on this thread. This way, if someone doesn't really finish a game, well another person will probably do it.
I started yesterday night the championship (despite the fact that today I had an exam :-P) and I won the season few minutes ago.
RetroMichel will like the driver I choose hehe, the Canadian Jacques Villeneuve. The game didn't have Villeneuve rights in that year so I changed his name in the original (he was called Driver Williams).
Both mode have a single player campaign. In the arcade mode you have to win four cups (1,2,3 and expert) and the car is easier to drive, you can touch the walls without loose control etc.
The championship mode is the simulation mode, so it's more realistic but every single contact makes the car go in every direction without control.
For example the YouTube longplay of the game shows the arcade mode, not the championship.
I discovered that in V-Rally '99 there are tracks in Corsica and not in Sardinia, my island. Corsica is very near to Sardinia. What a pity that Sardinia doesn't appear in any N64 game and Corsica yes, grrrr.

OK, so you can beat only the arcade mode and it'll count as beaten.
I beaten level 1 (4 races), 2 (5 races) and 3 (6 races) of the Arcade mode in V-Rally '99.
According the YouTube longplay now I should see the Expert mode but it doesn't appear. I also noticed that in that video the easy mode is called "rookie", in my game is called "easy".
So I wonder if the YouTube longplay is actually the N64 version as title says.
I'll try to investigate about the Expert mode in N64 version.
Unfortunately I didn't take a photo of the podium because I was sure that I had to play the Expert mode too.
Tomorrow I will beat it again and I will take a photo.
"Expert Arcade: A little tricky this one. You need to smash the total times records on all three Arcade levels before you can access the devilishly difficult tracks that make up Expert mode"
It's a secret mode to unlock. Maybe tomorrow I'll try to unlock it ;-)
Today I beaten again the arcade level 3, as you can see the record for unlock the Expert mode is more than 1 minute less than my time (I'm the second in this photo, yesterday I was first but I don't remember the total time). So I would have to better my times about 10 seconds for every race (are six races).
Not an hard task but this game really annoys me, the car physic is very bad.

To be honest the game is really affordable once you understand this:
- know the tracks
- go in first place and escape from the other because every single contact is 10 seconds lost
If you manage to escape from the other cars after the first turn, win the race is easy. But if you make a mistake and the other cars overtake you again...things become very frustrating!
So if the secret mode is required I can beat it tomorrow. But I think that start Top Gear Overdrive would be much funnier for me haha.
Now I upload the video on YouTube. Enjoy the game pop-ups!

I counted V-Rally Edition '99 as beaten. No need to do the secret mode.
Perfect. I appreciate it hehe. Incredible how V-Rally '99 was praised by some magazine back in days.
For example I seem it took 90% on N64 Magazine and Nintendo Official Magazine.
Ok, once you know the tracks and how master power-slide, oversteer/understar, avoid trees and walls, etc is quite rewarding. But it has too much flaws to be a "90%".
By the way, I was checking if my Top Gear Rally 2 file still had something locked/undone. I discovered that I didn't beat the tutorial haha. So I did it and I unlocked the last upgrade part.
So now I achieved the ultimate 100% with the best car of the game with all the parts available.
This may sounds strange as I wasn't very kind with the game, but I decided to beat the championship mode too.
In fact I tried it again the championship and now that I'm good it's very rewarding racing against the time and without that annoying opponents on the track.
I was sure that the championship mode had different car behaviour but now I feel similar/the same of the arcade.
Maybe I found it different because the first track that I played in championship was off-road and the first on arcade was on road.
I beaten Rayman 2 three times but never 100%. One day I will remediate to this. Last time I beaten I didn't know where to find 99/100 lums, I cleared all the levels but still 100 lums missed. What??

According to GameFAQs TGR2 guide:
"Q: What race is hardest?
A: Jaipur Heights in the World Cup class.
Most of the races are snowy, and it's hard to keep up with the opponents in the snow, even with a fully-upgraded high-level car and optimal settings.
Also, all of the legs in this circuit are
extremely long"
So I tried Jaipur Heights and I beaten it on the second try with 27 seconds better than the 2nd.
In this game 27 seconds are a really huge gap. I also unlocked the best car of the game.
If it's required to to beat all the cups let me know and I will update some pics when I'll 100% beat it, if not I stop to annoying you with TGR2 haha.

I think all the cups are required since it is the case with other racing games. I wish you the best of luck !
PS on page 30 I posted World Driver Championship achievement.
Incredibly that this masterpiece wasn't beaten in 2012/13/14.
What a pity, there is not a final scene.
Amateur Cup (1st in all races)
(edit September 21: Amateur Cap, also tutorial beaten)
Sprint Cup (1st in all races)
National Cup (1st in all races)
World Cup (1st in all races)
Rally Cup (1st in all races)

Good job man !
Bomberman 64 (I'm doing it right now, it will be long)
Rayman 2: The Great Escape
Hot Wheels: Turbo Racing
Superman
Extreme-G 2
Ready 2 Rumble Boxing
I was a bit worried about this when I was playing TGR2 haha.

Here's a (blurry) photo after a victory
The arcade mode is affordable, the championship mode is incredibly frustrating because the poor physics.
If I have to complete both mode for the achievement I stop to play this very frustrating game haha.
If the arcade mode is enough I'll give it a try ;-)

Which mode seems to be the main mode ?

The question is: Is the game beaten ?
Third attempt, first place, record beaten ( -17secs).
I also made a video. Now I upload it on YouTube ;-)
