Megaman battle network 2 help

So recently i purchased 2 megaman battle network 2s through ebay and after having received the 2nd one through mail I noticed the label was much darker. I just shook it off as a repro label or something but after opening them both, one is missing the battery function completely and has the correct release date in the USA with AGB-E11-01 printed above the connectors. The other one has a save battery and all the resistors and chips needed for it, & has 2001 on it which was the japanese release and AGB-E06-10 above the connectors.

Was there just 2 versions release or is one of these fake

Edit: the one without the battery is the one with a darker label.
Also both these games connect just fine and boot up with a gameshark advance. Idk if that makes a difference since im sure both functions just take info from the roms

  • The second copy looks to have an FRAM chip, rather than SRAM, which doesn't require a battery to retain data.

Wow so you think there might have been 2 releases?
I mean the technology was replaced in 3 completely as far as I know.
All the versions of 3 ive checked have no battery
  • Seems reasonable. There are plenty of snes games that have initial 2 rom and later 1 rom releases.
