Since my boxes are modded, I'm not worried about collecting games so much. But, I'm all about collecting controllers and oddball peripherals. My goal by next year is to have a complete and functioning Steel Battalion rig.

is XB-connect still up? if so we should have a NA Halo Lan somenight.

I checked, and apparently XBConnect is no longer up. They got hacked a few months ago, and just never recovered. Something called XLink Kai(I think) is doing something similar, but I haven't looked into it yet.

I used mine when I had the original disc mailing Netflix to rip dvds so I could mail them back right away then watch them off the hard drive

Pretty much what I'm doing with mine. I'm putting larger HDD's into them, and loading them up with emulators and games for convenience. I have 3 OG Xboxes now; and super clean one with a Samsung DVD drive I got for $20(the drive alone goes for over $60) in my bedroom, one with a crappy dying Thomson DVD drive, that's going to be used for System Link LAN play, and my main Halo Edition Xbox in the living room(with HD composite cables). The bedroom one sounds redundant, but the wife and kids usually claim the living room tv, so all of my other retro systems are hooked up in our bedroom for when I don't feel like watching kid's shows or the news.

The emulation on the box is fantastic. I still love my NES Everdrive on a big ol' CRT, but playing upscaled HD widescreen NES/SNES/Genesis/GBA-GC-GB/MAME games ain't so bad either. I haven't touched my Xbox One in weeks(aside from Netflix and WWE Network), been too busy playing my OG Xbox.

That said, I'm still buying up Xbox titles. They're dirt cheap, and the HDD's I have on hand to swap into the boxes are only big enough to hold a small handful of games. So, I've still got use for the original games. There's a retro game store near my house with a huge selection of Xbox games, so I usually stop in once a week or so and grab some.

  • I don't have many OG Xbox games but I like the ones I do. I still need to get a few more for the collection, specially the Star Wars games.

Those are the ones that I own.

    What else am I missing?

Also, I really like to get the debug games for this console. They are a bit cheaper and easier to find and the Debug Kit is very good looking.
  • I never realized Outrun 2006 got an Xbox release in the US. I only ever saw it for PSP and PS2.

Was it a store exclusive or something?

As for the Xbox in general, I liked the system at the time, and I still enjoy a few games on it, but it really was a more of a poor man's pc than it was an actual game console.

It felt like a good chunk of its library were ports of PC games, and since my current computer can now play the PC versions of those games (thanks to so many of them showing up on GOG these days), the number of Xbox games I own has taken a pretty steep hit.

It's also been hurt by other games from its library getting rereleased as nicer versions on some of the newer systems.

Not a rental exclusive but definitely released in much lower quantities. I've never seen the Xbox version locally over the last couple of years.

Some nice games there! Of the top of my head, you're missing Timesplitters 2 and 3, X-Men legends 2, Star Wars KoTOR 2, and Street Fighter Anniversary Collection. There's lots of other random fun ones out there, such as the Mechassault games.
  • Im pretty much done collecting Original Xbox Ive got all of the games Ive ever wanted off of the List.

Xbox 360 too... kinda had to stop after I ran out of shelf space a few years ago... Probably after a combined total of 150-200 OX/360 games roughly

Oooooh.... The 360 had so many Great Games!
  • @ Silent Hill Oh yeah you are right there is even a Jade Empire Cover Variant also which like the Doom 3 Cover Variant was a bonus given to those that preorder. As for the 50 Cent one the Platinum Hits version is Uncommon but getting up there in rarity, and the Bulletproof Vest is pretty cool and a few years back put it on my wife's teddy bear haha, that variant also had a PS2 release. But like most cases of multi-platform releases the latter games on the xbox were released in much much smaller quantities and almost ignored altogether as everyone was moving on to the Xbox 360. That's Why games like Teen Titans, XiaoLin, Outrun Coast to Coast, Madden 08, NASCAR 07 Walmart Limited Edition are the more rarer titles to collect for as they were released on the tail end of the Xbox's platform life. Thank God that Call of Duty Black Ops III is the Last Call of Duty on the Xbox 360, and PS3 or so says my video game insider friend. Time to buy sealed copies just kidding.

  • Ah, mine's just the normal one, then. I don't have that one.

I think it'll pick up some more demand once people see how makes it.  If you're planning on selling one, always best to wait for a new Elder Scrolls\Fallout game and push the "Also by"

+1 for TimeSplitters 2 and Future Perfect. I'd also recommend Second Sight, which is a third person shooter where you have various psychic abilities including telekinesis and the ability to possess people.

I already have Timeplitters for the PS2. I wasn't planning on double dipping on them.

Second Sight is interesting. Which one is better, Second Sight or Psi Ops?

  • I'm planning on hosting a big System Link/LAN party soon, and Timesplitters is a must for that. Hoping to make it a regular event, since there's a decent chunk of linkable games out there, including Star Wars Battlefront 2(and obviously Halo 1 and 2).
  • Sort of, I guess... I have a DOA limited Xbox, a Skeleton Black Xbox, and an Xbox debug kit. But not so many games.

I did this once with 11 of my friends. I softmodded two original xboxes and ran copies of Halo 2 off their HDDs, and then I used my xbox 360 with a legit copy of Halo 2 and then system linked them all together. It's honestly the most fun that I've ever had playing any video game ever, period (even though my voice was completely gone the next day from all the yelling )

    I haven't played Psi-Ops, so I can't really say, unfortunately.

  • Xbox, the last console SEGA was still in their prime on. lol (IMO...)

That could be because alot of these titles were switched from Dreamacat development. They did a much better job as a first party than as a third party.
  • As for mentioning Sega games and system link. One has to try outrun 2 or outrun coast to coast system linked with 8 xboxes and 8 players. The experience rivals and in some instances is better than Daytona USA with the 8 player version with 8 separate cabs all racing each other. Everytime my friends come over after the usual halo, steel battalion, battlefront multiplayer we always end the night with 8 player outrun 2. When you have 3 or 4 players powersliding to victory and you slip by the rest to win the race it's sublime.

  • I have a few original Xbox consoles sitting around that I picked up for super cheap a long time ago. I have one that's MAME modded as well. I find it true that the games are SUPER cheap when found. It's one of those systems that I know I'll get around to playing a lot eventually. I really need to revisit the library again. Does anyone have a count on titles with and without variants? Admittedly, I've not looked around yet.
  • Without Variants 865 retail Black Label Titles. With Variants, Platinum Hits, Best of Platinum Hits about another 260 or more.
  • I don't try to collect Xbox, but I do keep an eye out for any resellers that drop the ball when I'm at the flea market. The ones I've run into usually put a solid price across a console: all Xbox games $5, that sort of thing. So it's entirely possible to occasionally find something worth buying.

Xbox exclusives are a good thing to look out for if you're interested in playing through a series like Oddworld or Jet Set Radio. But keep an eye out for certain games which are valuable yet not exclusives. Jurassic Park, Digimon Rumble Arena 2, and Futurama immediately come to mind.

Thanks for the info, abrahamh2. Do you have a source for this?  I'd like to create a tracking list for myself.

  • I try to get all the only for Xbox games, excluding the shitty ones like sports games...

But if I see a great game that's multiplatform...like Castlevania...I won't skip it...depending on the price of course.

Which Castlevania was multiplatform? I thought the one on the OG Xbox was exlcusive?

  • Not only are there a ton of XBox exclusives that are hidden gems (for instance Voodoo Vince wasn't even mentioned and it's a great platformer, almost as good as Stubbs), but IMO all the multiplatform games from that gen are usually best on XBox.

Since I own an OG XBox, it serves a few more roles for me than just niche exclusives.

Oh was it? I'm not a huge Xbox person so I thought it was on the PS2 as well...plus it didn't have that only for Xbox thing...
