I try to get all the only for Xbox games, excluding the shitty ones like sports games...
But if I see a great game that's multiplatform...like Castlevania...I won't skip it...depending on the price of course.
Which Castlevania was multiplatform? I thought the one on the OG Xbox was exlcusive?
Oh was it? I'm not a huge Xbox person so I thought it was on the PS2 as well...plus it didn't have that only for Xbox thing...
I just checked, and it looks like it did come out on PS2 as well. I remember it being xbox-only when it came out, but I didn't pay much attention to it after it's initial release.
Castlevania: Curse of Darkness was never Xbox exclusive. I bought it on release day for PS2. Had it preordered months in advance with the bonus soundtrack.
I guess I changed my tune in the last week(sort of). Grabbed an Xbox for cheap tonight. Some folks on another forum pushed me over the edge. My husband is gonna mod it, but otherwise, I'm not sure why I did it. Maybe it's because it was the only major system we dont' own. I got Voodoo Vince, Otogi, Panzer Dragoon Orta, and he got Dead or Alive Ultimate. I'd kinda like to get Otogi 2 and Conker, but in all honesty, I doubt I ever play this system much at all, with so much else out there. Definitely not collecting for it. He put together a very liberal list of about 15 games we might like to have. Emphasis on "very liberal."

It's worth owning at least for the Sega published titles. You won't regret your decision
Just fired up my o.g. Xbox the other day. Can we all agree that fuzion frenzy is a superior party game than any of the nintendo party games? Also, fun if you add the drinking twist to it.
I've been buy tons or original xbox games the past 6 months. I like collecting for the system because it's so cheap. I prefer collecting for the xbox over the gamecube. The games have really aged well as far as I'm concerned. I found Xyanide in the bargain bin of a local retro store for $10. All it needed was a new case the disc was mint. A lot of good xbox games to hunt for in my area.
A local retro game store near me has a ton of original xbox games for around $5 each. I'm really tempted to see if they'll give me a discount if I buy a big bulk of them. OXbox collecting hasn't really taken off here, and tons of stores have really old stock taking up shelf space.

I think most shops would definitely discount if you bought in sizable bulk. Xbox games, by and large, are stagnant inventory (at least locally) and so "make 'em deal they can't refuse."
That's what I'm hoping. Just seeing if I can put together like 30-40 titles of similar prices(obviously taking rares into consideration) and negotiate one big offer.

You're in Columbus right? Play It has a ton of titles for $1.99 and they're B2G1 free.

Where's Play It at? I've never heard of that place. The place I was referring to has them around $5 each, which adds up quickly. $2 each I'd be all over in an instant.

There's a few around. Hilliard, High St. and Lewis Center.
Their prices are pretty crap on obvious titles, but most Xbox games they don't care about and they will be dirt cheap.
That's where I've gotten a lot of my titles. I've walked out with 10-25 titles multiple times. Now it's getting tougher because I have over 300 titles but it's still nice to stop by.
I'm around 250 games. We have a Pawn America a couple hours away, I've gone in and loaded a couple baskets full of $1 titles. I also scored on Craigslist once which was about 50 games.
Don't let the secret out that Xbox is outrageously cheap, we don't want to create any demand for it. I personally like being able to pick through a lot of $1 and $2 games, it feels like the good old days before most game prices got out of control. I guess you could say as a console, the original Xbox is A HIDDEN GEM.

Yeah, you are right. Prices have gone up enough as it is.
I collect some for it but I am so loathe to buy one again. The thought of yet another big black box to have to find room for, especially given I thought it was a "just okay" console, has prevented me from going balls deep on the system even though I owned one originally.

It's pretty much common knowledge that it is a wise decision to buy stuff that lurks in the 5-15 year Death Zone if you think that you are going to have any interest in that system in the future. Worse comes to worst you can sell it after it emerges from the Death Zone for more than you paid.
The guy that runs our local Con has a near complete Xbox collection. He was tickled pink that he was able to snag a complete Steel Battalion at Midwest.
I have a Mountain Dew Xbox, but to be honest I never play the thing. Goes back to the whole "if I didn't play it during the lifespan, I'm not that interested in it" thing. Same goes for Genesis and N64. TurboGrafx is about the only exception I've found so far.

Totally feel you dude. I was lucky enough to just catch the NES thank god and not have that feeling.
Only systems i have that with are Xbox, sega saturn, turbo grafx, and anything Neo Geo. I never had them and for some reason just have no interest.
Every now and then Neo Geo reels me in but it never keeps me interested, but thats what my MAME cabinet is for
Never had a Xbox before is it any good? I got scared away from it cuz of the red light of death I hear everyone talk about. Always been a Nintendo guy and have every system (guess you can say I really like Nintendo lol). Wouldn't mind the Xbox if I heard more positive things about it .
The Original Xbox has it's quirks and is relatively cheap to collect for. The red light of death you are referring to is for the xbox 360 not og xbox however aside from the time capacitor problem and thompson dvd drive being a bit dodgy it really is a fun system to collect for with a wide range of Better multiplatform games than PS2, and gamecube, 5.1 Dolby sound and progressive scan on most not all games. And modding the Xbox is very easy to load emulators and burned games by softmodding or hard modding it with a chip. It really was a versatile gaming machine for it's time and still is. All I'm going to say is 8 player system link Outrun 2 is sublime and dare I say it is up there with halo lan parties it's that good .
A good friend I've been friends with since last June has been telling me to purchase one to collect for. His reasoning is that it's cheap. He is true with that, as Halo 1 is less than 10 dollars right now. Perhaps if I can find one cheap at a Cash Converters or something, but my dad gives a frustrated sigh while smirking every time I get a new system. I would also love to collect this, and I have tried to get it a few times now, but I think I might complete a few sets first. 3DS is also a great system to collect for right now. I don't really see the prices rising on it for at least another 15 years. Plus, I'm into PS2 right now anyway, and I'm up to 94 different titles.

Any suggests for shooters on the Xblock?
I assume you mean shoot em ups and not first or third person shooters.

Xyanide is really the only shooter for the system (US) and it's really more akin to Geometry Wars than a standard shooter like Gradius or Gun Nac.
So, any thoughts on a new xbox modding renaissance? Anybody have any nifty colored shells/cases they want to sell/trade?
Curse/bless this thread. Grr. New purchase.
and that is exactly the console bundle I got Christmas of 2004 I do believe.

Stop talking about it on Nintendo Age.
Quick, someone send Mike Mattei a copy of Stubbs!

To pretty much conclude, maybe this year.
