Can NA Beat Every SNES Game 2015?

  • Just put a couple hours into Dennis the Menace, before getting to level 4-3 and promptly dying roughly 30 times to the shitty platforming.

I'm never playing another licensed Ocean game again.  Every one I've attempted for this thread has been terrible, and pissed me off by the end.
  • I beat clay fighter tournament edition and roasted tales of spike mcfang
  • Mario's Early Years!: Fun with Numbers done
  • Ultimate Fighter.  What a strange game.

  • 274 games beaten by my count, which means the record is only 2 games away!
  • Shanghai II is done. Again. Was hoping someone else would've taken it out, just so I could focus on something new, but whatever, it killed a half hour
  • F-1 Roc II

I bet this game has flown under a lot of radars because of the generic name and artwork, but it was actually really cool.  Kind of like F-Zero, but with a long campaign and lots of upgrades.

As you can see by the message, it wants me to do a second loop.  Luckily, it's just the final third of the game I need to do again, and with my upgraded car I was wrecking the competition by the end.  Plus its such a fun game I don't mind doing it again.

edit:  looks like they left the Japanese name in the credits

  • The Jetsons: Invasion of the Planet Pirates

    Taito games are sweet

  • I believe that's a new NA-best 277/722. And that puts me 5 away from my goal (and a long rest from SNES).

So that means either getting serious about finishing Blackthorne, BoF2, The Brainies, Soldiers of Fortune, Equinox, etc., or finding some easy/short titles, if there are even any left.  I ordered some fighting games, which I despise, hoping for just that.

Congratulations! You've obviously been the MVP in reaching that all-time record. Maybe we can make 300 before the end of the year, but if not it's still great to better previous years' achievements. Of all the consoles that NA tries to "beat every...game" in their libraries, in some ways the SNES is the hardest to complete.

BTW I hope that rest lasts no later than December 31, 2015. Also, at least SNES Blackthorne has fewer levels than the 32X version...

  • Next year I would like to attempt to tackle a handful of the heavy hitters that I haven't beaten before that others beat me to the punch with this year (Wild Guns, Hagane, Dracula X, Ninja Warriors, a number of Capcom games, etc.). But I do not plan on doing any repeats, or doing anything close to the volume I did this year.
  • Sorry if it's been mentioned before, but I was going to tackle Super Bowling and am wondering what the win conditions are? Just the top bowling score on the in-game leader board or what? A perfect game?

There's a TAS with a perfect game, and the ending has two girls spraying champagne on you with your score in large type on the screen. Here's another one:

I don't know if you get the same ending if you score <300, though, or (if so) what the required minimum number is.

EDIT: This person got 206 and got the same ending, so a perfect game definitely doesn't seem to be required:

Maybe the threshold is 200 points, since one of these two players got 192 and got a bad ending:

  • I should have seen/watched those ^^^ videos before the last hour or so of experimentation, but I think I've got the game wrapped around my finger now. If people end up wanting a perfect score, I believe I can get it. For now, let me know if this champagne shower works (I believe you're correct about the 200 threshold, too):

  • Clayfighter.  Have I mentioned I don't like beating fighting games?

  • Just thought I'd mention that I've started a run on Romance of the Three Kingdoms II. Started as a new ruler on Scenario 6 (something I've wanted to do but never tried). So far so good, I've got a 4 province empire going, just need some more manpower to expand further. Only about a year and a half of game time has passed too, so I'm not too worried...I should be able to finish things off before all the in-game generals die of old age
  • If no one is already hard at work on it, I believe I'll try my hand at Kirby's Dream Course.

Nice job ^^^ on Clayfighters, Brock. Still need to pick up a copy sometime and try it out. Been on my radar for a while, but I've never gotten it for whatever reason.
  • It was on my maybe pile, but I've beat it before so I say go for it
  • Finished Aero the Acro-Bat over the last weekend. Wasn't doing it for this thread so I didn't take a pic but I thought I'd mention it and contribute. The game is kind of tedious without any password or save feature but it's a decent game overall.
  • I think I would like to learn how to master the Koei games. I do love strategy games, but those ones are typically brutal and over the top. Also nobody ever really wants to play them.
  • The Blues Brothers

Funny, I'm playing Romance of the Three Kingdoms II because I want to...but yeah, I agree, they have a steep learning curve.  It's not uncommon for people to spend weeks just learning the mechanics.  Your best bet is to just sit down and be patient.  Learn a little bit, fail, but keep at it.  Things do start to make sense eventually.
  • Battle Blaze.  Wow, this game was laughably easy and short.  5 total battles, each lasting a minute or two.  I never lost a match and I won several of them without taking a hit.  I never once pressed X, A, L, or R (no idea what any of them do).  And this was the first time ever playing the game.

Gets me up to 98, and 2 away from shutting it down...

I learned a bit about how to play Nonbunaga's Ambition II for NES years ago, and then tried to play it on SNES and got completely blown out.  It's way harder.

Yeah, each game is it's own thing.  I'm a pro with Romance II, but Romance III is beyond me.  Haven't tried IV yet, kinda wanna do the third one before I start

Anyway, on the Romance II front, I've conquered a good chunk of territory now, and have expanded out as far as I can without expanding my front lines, despite suffering a minor setback (two provinces had their governors die on me, so I have a few less-than-ideal replacements in place).  I've come close to knocking off Cao Pi in two separate battles as well, but he seems to have my number.  I'm hoping to kill him off, but I'm afraid to extend my front line much further without building up my forces...but if I do manage to execute him, whoever becomes the new ruler will have to rebuild loyalties across the board, which means an easier time recruiting his followers...and maybe even getting a few states without a fight...decisions, decisions
  • Ranma 1/2 is done

I beat the pantyhoses off the last boss!

Hard taking pics of your camera phone when you're playing games on your camera phone...
  • ^Nice one! So that puts us at 283, I think?

    279. Super Bowling (laddersandcakes)

    280. Aero the Acro-Bat (KrakenSoup)

    281. The Blues Brothers (Brock Landers)

    282. Battle Blaze (Brock Landers)

    283. Ranma 1/2 (Ozzy_98)

I want to get back on the horse with a few SNES titles -- I'll see what I can do to help us reach 300 by the end of the year.
  • I am ashamed for 1, not helping out with this thread more after we finished NES (life got in the way) and 2, I have just finished Shaq Fu. Let the public shaming begin.
  • Hah, I tried, but I'm terrible at fighting games and couldn't even get past the 2nd or 3rd guy.

I will eventually get those last 2 titles to reach 100
