Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego?

Well, yeah, kinda. What all came with Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego? I seem to think there was some kind of book that came with it, but I don't know. If so, what would the price range of it generally be, and how readily available is it? I'd really like to play this game more, but uh, I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer : P

Thanks!

Yes, it definitely came with an encyclopedia image
  • also can confirm that it came with an encyclopedia. the whole thing came in a box that is like 3 times as wide as a regular boxed nes game I picked my copy up CIB for 10 bucks Canadian in a pawn shop a few months back
  • Thanks all! So, what does everyone think that a copy of the encyclopedia by it self would be worth?
  • It's hard to tell, not that much considering its rarity. Maybe $10-$15?
  • I had the PC version of various Carmen Sandiego games.. the encyclopedia wasn't a special edition or anything, just a generic paperback encyclopedia by Webster or some other well known company.

Interestingly, the PC version had copy protection where it would ask you questions about info on a certain page # of the encyclopedia..
  • I purchased this game CIB from eBay for $9.99, so I don't think that the encyclopedia is going to be worth all that much. Good luck!
  • Well I just bought it perfect mint SEALED/NEW 2 days ago to replace my CIB collection copy for $20. So it can't be worth too much.
  • So we have 2 CIBs of the game at 8 and 10 bucks, and a brand new sealed for 20. The encyclopedia can't be worth that much at all then. Alrighty. Thanks for the input guys.
  • working on a new game to beat?
  • haha Yeah, I'd like to, but I'd like to have all the tools that were originally available with the game : )
  • i think the encyclopedia was the "new american desk encyclopedia"..
  • Roth, did you ever find the encyclopedia?

So does that mean you have no plans to play this one
  • It takes forever to beat this one. 80 cases I think? I made it through like 30 and got pretty burned out.
  • Apparently, the encyclopedia was the same one issued to any bookstore/library during the time. There's no identifying markers on it that says it's issued to the NES cart.

Instead of just deleting what I just wrote, I take that back. There's no ISBN number bar code, and the inside pages on both the front and back are ads for Konami games, as well as an ad for other Carmen Sandiego games on the back cover. Either way, it's titled "The New American Desk Encyclopedia" and the last numbered page is 1374. It's hefty :-)

Nopers, but then again, I haven't been super actively hunting it since starting this thread : P
  • does the game mention things specifically in the book.. i gotta believe with the intarwebz around it can't be that hard
  • ^^^If you feel like running to google there would be no need for the book. If you have a laptop you can just set next to you it would be faster then thumbing through the book anyhow. I got my cart+book for like $6 at a used game store, I was happy with that deal.
