Some games have parts in them that are just ridiculous to the point that I can guilt free use the Game Genie to help complete the game. This one in particular. What games have you resorted to the use of a Game Genie to complete them guilt free?
Basically any game that I want to see the ending for at this point in life but don't have the time/patience/vitality to grind it out the normal way.
Exactly this.
Sometimes it's a pain in the ass to spend as much time as it would take. I know the game is fun and awesome, everyone knows the game is fun and awesome, why do I need to kill my hands and my brain trying to hack my way through it?
I'm not sure when/what game I decided to finally not care about using a game genie in... but I don't give a crap anymore. Unfortunately, because I just moved, my game genie(s) is "resting" for now. So there's a list of games piling up I want to playthrough.
Most awesome games I want to play past level 2-3 and they are, by design, hard as hell. So, screw it, I'll use a game genie for an infinite lives code, or extra continues, or whatever. I'm not talking about Invincibility codes. Those aren't fun.
Some games I will spend the time to beat, but some others I just stopped caring. I like playing through the levels. It feels good.
I'm still almost 30 years away from retirement and my one-year-old is at least 18 away from shipping off to college. Without an infinite amount of free time I'm definitely going to cheat if that's what it takes to complete a game. For games that have limited continues for instance, what's the point in playing the same first few levels that I've already beaten over and over?
I recently Game Genie'd my way through Krion Conquest and don't regret it. 3 lives, no continues, almost no power ups? How in the world did anyone think that was balanced?

I am with you when it comes to games that lack continues. I enjoy playing a game and beating levels; not mastering every level in a game so I can get to the end. Especially when the games are very long.

Correct!
I used to use a Game Genie all the damn time back in the day. We'd mostly play games without it, but there were times when I got enjoyment out of having unlimted ammo or lives simply because it made the gameplay more fun.
There are some times that I play games that I want to get the satisfaction of playing/beating completely on their own terms. Basically games that I want to challenge myself against or experience the way they designers intended.
Then there are some times that I play games just for the sake of playing them and seeing all the stages/enemies/etc.
But personally, my favorite use for the Game Genie (today and in my youth) isn't for extra lives or stage select codes. It is for those codes that do crazy things to the gameplay or graphics. I remember the "Ultra Jump" code for Mega Man 3, the "Levitation" code in Ocarina of Time, and lots of quirky stuff you could do with codes in Super Mario Kart or the Super Star Wars games.
I think it's appropriate that Game Genie was created by Galoob, a toy company, because it was great at creating wacky, imaginative fun! I still love it!
I use it all the time for NES games. There are some games that I was really good at as a kid, but can't get past the second level now.GG comes on handy.
Outside of using it to practice the game, I don't see the point. You can't cheat the game and come and claim you beat it. You might as well just use save states and an emulator, it will save you even more time than playing the game legit or cheating with a genie. If you can't beat the game legit then go look up the ending on youtube instead of resorting to cheating.

I'm digging up what yer burying but I think it has more to do with the desire to play through later stages that normally would not be accessible to some without the GG Allin Genie as opposed to doing it purely for bragging rights. I mean, I love playing Castlevania but am so bad that I can only get just over halfway through. Yes, I am horrible at just about any games that are not Mario related or beat 'em ups. Unless it's Double Dragon III for the NES, in which case I can barely make it to the second screen. I wonder if there are any codes for Color a Dinosaur? As lame as it sounds, I actually enjoy that for some idiotic reason, but only for about two and a half minutes, at which point I just hang my head in shame.

i've made codes for many games and used them on several i had made a couple for ghost busters (stupid staircase )
yes i use a game genie on more games then i probably should but i do not suffer any guilt
Kevin I always enjoy your shows. Perhaps if I'm ever in Indiana and you're in need of a lowly skilled gamer cameo for one of the playthroughs
Thanks for the positive feedback. We are always up for a guest on the channel so just keep me posted the next time you are in town.
