Most underrate N64 exclusives?

This game stole many hours of my time back in the day.  Especially when playing the stunt track to collect Mountain Dew cans.  I never see this game mentioned often and feel it needs more attention since this is a nice exclusive.  Any other for the N64 that do not get the attention they deserve?

  • Body Harvest! Despite all of its flaws, this one blew my mind when it came out. The "open world" concept is old news these days, but back then it was one of the first, at least to me.
  • Beetle Adventure Racing

I agree 100%. The thought of being able to travel all over a large map, plus being able to drive a vast array/arsenal of vehicles in different time zones and worlds made it even better. I remember having the players guide before actually having the game. I never made it past the USA level. It was incredibly difficult to beat those bugs.
  • Body Harvest and Rush 2 are both still unbeaten on the Can NA beat every N64 game in a year? (2015) thread, so you fans of each game should get over there and take them down.
  • Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon. Excellent game that feels like part Mario, part Zelda.
  • I absolutely love Rush 2! Thats been my favorite racing game on the N64 by a pretty wide margin, even since the N64 days. That game just refuses to age, gameplay wise lol.
  • I feel like Doom 64 doesn't get the recognition it deserves. Great f'n game.
  • +1 for Beetle Adventure Racing, it's truly great. I'm not sure if it's underrated or not, though.
  • Even though its a Tetris game, I still don't see hardly anyone talk about it at all online. Tetrisphere is an amazing puzzle game for the N64. Hell I hear more people praise Mickey's Magical Tetris or Pokemon Puzzle League more than I do Tetrisphere, and imho, that is very much a crime.

Man, I totally forgot about this game! My good buddy and I used to play this all the time, lol.

Definitely a personal top N64 title.
  • Doom 64 is THE definitive Doom in my library. Doom 3 and Resurrection of Evil are pretty amazing, but just something about Doom 64 made it way over the top for me. Better than Quake by a long shot (and Quake is still a damn fine game too).

Also love Rush 2, I remember taking a picture of my bros TV when I did a roll flip on the stunt track for something like 78 points across almost the entire map (no cheats like less gravity, etc). The 4x4 pickup truck is the best for rolls in that game.

I also have an unnatural love for Blast Corps, Castlevania 64, Gauntlet Legends, Shadows of the Empire and Turok 1 and 2.
  • 007 The World is Not Enough deserves much more love than it gets. If you enjoyed 007 Goldeneye, you should absolutely play 007 The World is Not Enough. Most people know about Perfect Dark but I rarely see TWiNE mentioned.

I'd also say that Gauntlet Legends with some friends is a real fun experience too.  Edit*-oops not exclusive but still fun!

California Speed is a pretty decent racer that doesn't get mentioned much.

    Aidyn Chronicles is alright too.

I know it's on tons of consoles but Monopoly is a lot of fun on N64.

Road Rash 64 is a lot of fun.

Donald Duck Goin' Quackers is a fun platformer.

Blues Brothers 2000 deserves more love.

Space Station Silicon Valley is a fun challenge.

Gauntlet Legends is awesome, but 'tis no exclusive -- it's on the PlayStation and Dreamcast too. That said, the N64 version is the best.

Pilotwings 64 often gets called a "glorified tech demo" and things like that, but I found it totally addictive & a worthy sequel to the SNES original.

Chopper Attack isn't great, and some things about it are pretty goofy, but all things considered it plays pretty well and I enjoyed it for what it was.

I'm intrigued by Battlezone: Rise of the Black Dogs and Shadowgate 64. I need to play both of those some more.
  • I was going to say Earthworm Jim but I saw it was also released on Windows...... that game gets a lot of hate but I find it rather enjoyable.
  • Blast Corps was one of my favorite N64 games that doesn't seem to get a lot of attention. I'm not sure if they qualify as underrated, but I'll add Wave Race 64 and Killer Instinct Gold to my list.
  • I was a big fan of the Battletanx games on N64. They had this really gristly, ugliness to them that felt completely intentional and awesome, like a grimy 80's low-budget action flick. They took what a lot of people in hidnsight call a big flaw of the N64(the ugly textures and graphics) and actually made it work to their advantage. Just something crazy too about gangs having access to military hardware.
  • ^Battletanx was awesome. My buds and I used to play Capture the Queen all the time.

Buck Bumble and Knife Edge are pretty solid from what I remember. Knife Edge is a very bare-bones rail shooter, but it's mindless fun.
  • I think Blast Corp's , Pokemon Puzzle League, Mischief Makers, Chameleon Twist, WWF: No Mercy and even Clay Fighter gets alot of hate. But I rather enjoyed what they've tried to acomplish with some of the Fighting Stages being interactive the way you can maneuver in and out of certain areas.

I love seeing threads like this. In other areas of the forums Lately The N64 seems to have picked up a ton of hate on the forums since Indy, Homebrew became so popular and retro is so trendy now.
  • WWF: No Mercy gets hate? Since when? In the wrestling community, it's still revered as one of the best wrestling games ever made(as long as you don't have 4 characters on screen at once). Maybe you're thinking of the Acclaim WWF games; War Zone and Attitude. Those games get some pretty hefty(well deserved) hate.
  • AeroFighters Assault

    Chameleon Twist

    Clay Fighter 63 1/3

    Fighters Destiny

    Mickey's Speedway USA

    Rocket: Robot on Wheels
  • [delete double post]
  • Jet Force Gemini!
  • Star Wars Rouge Squadron is underrated in my mind. I mean, you get to whip some ass with almost every ship from the original movies. Hell of a game, and I'm not even a huge Star Wars fan by any means.
  • Only one not mentioned already is Rocket: robot on wheels, super underrated game from suckerpunch.

I did mention Rocket: Robot on Wheels.
  • Castlevania 64 and it's sequel are still the best 3d Castlevania games.
