I'm not sure if I'm going to buy it again or not. Beat it and it was great, and I already have physical swag. They did the NES style box and manual as part of the Kickstarter or PAX release, which I think it way cooler than a modern DVD case & game.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, you can see them on eBay occasionally like this:
Just picked up my copy (Wii U)! Haven't cracked the shrink yet. This day is doubly-exciting for me because a) physical releases are always my preference and b) the PC copy I got off Steam was plagued with frame rate issues to the point that it was unplayable and thus I've still not gotten to experience this game properly (my PC is rather out of date but it did meet the minimum specs posted for the game, so...*shrug*).
Got a copy for PS4 and OH MY GOODNESS A FULL INSTRUCTION MANUAL
The full manual is one of the biggest selling points for me to buy a physical release for this game, despite already owning it digitally. Looking forward to getting this later and replaying it. The question is... 3DS or Wii U? Hmm...
I purchased a physical copy for the PS4,but I won't get to try it until later tonight. At my night class ,so I'll crack it open ,when I get home tonight.
HELL yeah! I bought The Wii U, 3DS and PS4 versions, (hope the issues with the XBone physical release are worked out!) Can't wait to check them all out! I already own the digital releases but I HAD to buy every version since I Kickstarted it And am in the game! If anybody hasn't played it yet, pick it up, you'll love it!
I'm pretty pumped for my Wii U version. I managed to preorder early and snagged it for $15.99 + tax with Best Buy's CGU. The instruction book is so heavy and colorful. I'm not used to that anymore.
Here are some photos of what you get with the Wii U release:
Yacht Club Fames saying there isn't a release and that any information saying there is gna be one is misleading.
That's from April, when buzz was starting to mount about a physical release. Yacht Club wanted to be the ones to do the revealing of a physical release and wanted to calm the hype so that they could break the news themselves. They announced it shortly afterward, and the physical release is now a reality and in people's hands.

I got mine, I forgot how much I love the instruction books! I really wish other companies would look to Yacht Club as an example and start printing manuals again. I'm willing to bet Shovel knight is the *only* game on PS4 with a manual.

For me, the decision of which version came down to a few key factors:
1) The 3DS can cramp up my hands a bit with extended play and the buttons can feel too close together. The Wii U Pro Controller is just more comfortable for me overall.
2) The idea of taking in Shovel Knight's gorgeous visuals on my HDTV just sounds great.
3) I actually don't play my 3DS "on-the-go" much, so there isn't a great advantage for me in portability.
Glad I waited and never downloaded this. Bought it for the wii U . This game is awesome and the physical release is amazing. Great full color detailed thick manual.

I was worried about the quality of the manual, thanks for the heads up, mine arrives on Friday

Oh yeah, the manual is nice! Probably the best-quality game manual I've seen in years...since the days of big-box PC games, for sure.
Ahhhhh I want this NOW but I really should wait for someone to get it for me for Christmas. I am so glad to see there is hope for digital games getting physical releases.
This game is great in every way. The physical release is so chock-full of the things that gamers want. A soundtrack, an awesome manual, the whole 9 yards. The game itself is awesome, and I'm more than happy to support Yacht Club by buying the physical and digital versions of the game. It all but guarantees a sequel, which I'd insta-buy as well.

Exactly, this game is exactly why we want physical releases! I think a sequel is definite considering how well the original did it terms of sales and reception. I'd hope they would make a Super Shovel Knight with SNES-style graphics and using the SNES soundfont for the music. But regardless of what game they put out next, I think Yacht Club Games have already proven themselves to be a viable developer. I'll probably support anything they put out.
Fantastic game. I played through it originally back when it came out on Wii U and then I rebought and played through it again on PS4. I don't need a physical copy but it's cool they are making one.

They still have THREE massive updates to do for the game, out of four promised. The first one was the Plague of Shadows where you can play the game with entirely new mechanics as the boss character Plague Knight. There are two more boss campaigns they're making as well as making Sheild Knight a playable campaign. PoS took Yacht Club a year to make so unless Yacht Club staffs up, which they probably won't, it'll be about three more years until they finish all of the final campaigns(stretch goals.) They Have commented on making a 16 bit style Super Shovel Knight and they feel just adding a coat of 16-bit style graphics would just add too much work on the art end for no new play mechanics. They can make any game play mechanics work in 8 as they can 16 bit so what they initially wanted to do is make a 3D Shovel KNight game. They only kicked around the idea so it's Nothing solid yet and they have tons of work to do before they can really get that underway if they do indeed decide that route. Either way, with the great sales of the digital copies of SK and the amout of buzz (and hopefully sales) of the physical releases the talented peeps at Yacht Club will be making games for a long time!
I've been really interested in getting my hands on this game. Glad its seeing a physical release. I'll for sure pick up the 3ds version (cart based games last longer at my house) but boy do i want to get it on my xbone for the battletoads cameo
Absolutely impressed with the physical release. The cover art is gorgeous and a full manual instead of just a shitty piece of paper with a website is a really nice touch.
I like what Yacht Club has done with this game, I really hope they end up doing a sequel and other IPs.
