SMB3 "Secrets"... The Wall jump???

So yes... I know that there's a "wall" jump for SMB and I've accidentally used it, and not really cared about using it too much otherwise.

For the most part I don't really care too much about finding/playing through every single glitch, secret, or glitchy secret...

But for SMB3, this one just blew up my brain box a little bit. I've been playing SMB3 longer than I've been alive and I've never seen this:

I know this is nothing new, but I've never actually looked up glitches OR secrets for SMB3, I've always just played through the game and found whatever random stuff I could.

After watching this one I felt pretty dumb, haha. I thought "well, shit... I could at least have looked this up online years ago."

Guess I'll have to look up a few glitch/secret lists for SMB, haha...

I got SMB3 when it was released for Xmas, I must have been 8 or 9 years old.

"Back in the day" there was NO internet to look shit up online.  You had to learn about it from friends at school or read actual paper based magazines...
  • What?? I never knew about this either. Huh. The more you know!
  • I read the the description of his video...about how the Nintendo Power strategy guide for it talked about "Mini Mario Making It." After reading that, I vaguely recall seeing that in the guide all those years ago, but didn't bother trying it out myself. Totally had forgotten about that blurb in the strategy guide until now.

It's the same glitch from the first SMB.  If you touch the wall right at the 8 pixel tile height, it thinks you're on the floor, and lets you jump again.   I know the same type of glitch shows up in other games, but I cant think of any off hand

  • Now I want to go home and try this out. nice
  • I remember watching the movie The Wizard and the begging my mom for SMB 3, which I received for my birthday shortly after. Great stuff.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who's JUST learning about that one.

Oh yeah, no doubt about that. If I'm playing SMB3 I want to watch The Wizard, if I'm watching The Wizard I wasnt to play SMB3. It's a delightful cycle.
  • Nice!! I never knew about this one either....I would have been more impressed if it wasn't already in Nintendo Power though!

    Awesome none the less though.
  • Oh cool, I remember that trick. I've managed to pulled this off a few times in the first SMB, mostly before falling in a pit.
  • I had no idea this existed until just now. WOW.
  • Ditto ^

Thought I knew everything about that game.

I would love to see this done with a frog suit.  Maybe I'll try it sometime.

edit: Zelda has some cool glitches too.  You can pass through blocks and do a screen wrap without it scrolling.  I remember hearing about them when I was a kid, but had fogotten them untill I saw speed runner Darkwingduck use them.

Haha, good to see I'm not the only one.

I almost didn't bring it over here because I thought most people would know about it.

I don't mind admitting when I don't know things... and judging by this there will be much more stuff to learn for myself!

Yeah, exactly... I mostly remember doing it underground almost dying beside blue bricks.

"Holy crap... how'd I NOT die??"

I got my SMB3 game on my 11th birthday back in 1991.   And to this day I refuse to watch the Academy Awards ever since The Wizard was snubbed for Best Picture.

Oh, no. Frog suit won't get you up there. Frog suit lets you swim to a hidden pipe inside the level for a different bonus (three extra lives, no shortcut)

I thought that jump looked awful high.
