Sick game so far.. I'm nearly level 10. I just finished the quest to save the guy from Trinity Tower (I think that was the name of the spot) from the super mutants. After this quest, I got the option to have Strong (a friendly super mutant) as my companion. I had recently went to Diamond City and was giving Piper (hot news-lady) a try, yet I liked the pooch better. Strong is better than both of them IMO.. he can carry more than humans can, plus he is a better bullet-shield, and he's all about that melee attack with his lead pipe.
I still have yet to craft any living spot, etc.; only build a few weapons to far.
How are you guys dispersing skill-points? I usually start off with an equal-balanced build in the Bethesda games, then spawn off. I've been dumping quite a few points into luck (wanna get that random stranger to one-shot stuff for me; also works on bosses), and into charisma/ intelligence.
Damn! Sounds like you've made some real progress! I got so wrapped up in making myself a home I barely did anything plan on actually going out and exploring more tonight though! I usually make all my stats pretty even also. I think Strength has the most right now with 6 points and the rest are pretty even. I'm level 7 I think.
Played from 8 till 2 AM last night and hopefully a few more hours tonight. Really enjoying it so far and haven't experienced any bugs (which I was concerned about with a Bethesda game).
My epic home! Basically 2 pre-made shacks on top of a single story I slapped together. The top middle part is open with all my shit set up which is the second pic. The 3rd is my dogs little room which is on the 3rd floor!
I spent zero time on house buildling. I also just walked right by the dog and ignored him (I prefer not to have a companion). After the power armor mission, I then spent a few hours exploring the map and getting whatever loot I could while running while from pretty much every enemy. I get killed quite a bit with that strategy, but it's fun to explore.
I hit level 7 and cleared out the assembly floor of the factory. Don't like the combat a whole lot, feels a little messy.
Like the melee or shooting? Did you play Fallout 3 or New Vegas or is this your first entry into Fallout? I think it plays pretty good so far. As good as or better than the last entries. The only thing I'm fumbling with a little is the menus. I just need to get more use to the controls than I'll be fine. It's been a while now since I played 3 or Vegas.

Where are you finding supplies to build your custom house? I seem to be very low on cloth and steel which are needed to build beds. The minutemen are demanding beds from me and I also want to build a custom house like you did.
*For those of you who run out of power for your suit once you get to Sanctuary (minutemen) - Look at your map and go directly east towards Tenpines Bluff (a mission objective given to you by one of the minutemen) and on your way you will come across USAF Satellite Station Olivia...sneak inside, tell your dog to stay put...when you get to an area of pipes where you can go either left or right, go RIGHT...sneak past a few guys and there will be another power reactor thing you can take to go back and use for your suit. Just make sure you haul it out of there or else you're going to have to put up a fierce fire fight.
I'm loving this game so far. They improved on FO3 and FONV in every way possible! There's plenty to do, lots of customizing, great story, engaging characters, and a really well developed world. I'd put FO4 and The Witcher III as my PS4 games of the year so far, especially in regards to single player games. We still have Star Wars Battlefront to look forward to next week!
You can find a ton of supplies just literally laying on the ground in Sanctuary. Fallen trees, tires, mailboxes, furniture, even ruined buildings themselves can all be scrapped. I went around and scrapped every little bit of loose stuff in my town and cleaned it up nice. Wound up with over 1,000 Wood, hundreds of Steel, etc.

Ahhh ok. Clearly I wasn't looking hard enough. lol That helps a lot! *Edit- Learning to use the menus is pretty vital in this game. Holding down the touchpad to bring up the workbench and scrapping items is a must.
Any tips, tricks, or interesting discoveries in your playthrough so far?

x2. Just stay in "building mode" (or whatever it is called) and walk around looking at junk in the Sanctuary. You can scrap old houses / trees / tires / ovens / etc. and get PLENTY of building supplies.
Made it to Diamond City last night and stopped at level 9. Actually accidentally killed a Diamond City guy and had to sleep for 4 nights in a row so they were no longer hostile towards me. So I have Diamond City armor already which is a huge plus!
I also am really enjoying the gun crafting / upgrades. I'm not using the +20% damage to (rifle / pistol / etc.) perks because I like to use all weapons. The upgrading lets me choose which ones to enhance.

I tend to not like FPS games on consoles, so I have no excuse really. I should have picked up the game on PC.
The menus are a bit much, too, but i've adjusted to them quicker.

Dude I can see how you spent multiple hours setting all that up, now. O___o
That house is sick dude. All I did was clear a ruined house, and threw down a large shack. I didn't even think of stacking them on top of each other.. I was wondering why there were stair options and whatnot for you to craft when none of the homes were multiple-floors. I like how you have the pool table in the middle of the top floor just chillin in the sunlight, and the picture of the dog right next to the doghouse.. haha. This really did give me inspiration, and whenever I get tired of questing today I'm going to spend some time in town for sure.
Also, to anyone having a difficult time with this game; look all over inside places to loot drugs such as psycho, med-x, etc... these are your buddies when paired with combat; I pretty much always have at least one drug active. If you use V.A.T.S. often, slower firing/ reloading (bolt action, double gauge shotty, etc.) are fine weapon choices, yet if you don't use the system much, and feel overrun with enemies when indoors doing a mission or something, make sure you have a quick firing (lots of ammo in the clip is also a huge plus) to just unload on bad shit. Also:
- utilize grenades often... I look around everywhere to loot stuff (I always do so in Bethesda games) so I find a lot; I guess if you don't loot much, then maybe conserve them.
- have your companion (if you aren't using the pooch) use a melee weapon, that way they can tank the enemies and be a bullet-shield while you sit back and unload without distraction.
- if all else fails, you can always turn down the difficulty at any point of the game.

Some of those +20% damage perks are necessary for some crafting. I'm taking those, and not many others.

Haha, thanks, it was pretty fun to put together! I'm still tweaking with things and learning how things work. Like the generators and whatnot. I set up a giant windmill generator on top of my house so now it looks even more ridiculous. also, I didn't really know it at first but you have to attach wires from the generators or windmills to actually power whatever it is that needs power. I now have the windmill powering an emergency siren and radio tower which sends out a recruiting message to people. And I finally have all my town stats in the green. My food had been in the red but finally found enough crops to plant to keep everyone happy! i probably won't mess around too much with any more house building for now as I'm assuming you'll be able to unlock more items to create as you progress.
Edit* I did get a bit further in the game. Mainly just exploring new areas. Came upon a big wrecked plane where I found a space monkey and helped a few other people out who came back to my base. At level 10 now and like 11 or so hours played. Can't wait to get off work!
I've been wasting more time building shit than I'm playing. Lol started out with just making a fortress out of my home then realized I could build all over the neighborhood.

I actually prefer wandering around by myself with the radio on my pip boy blaring. I get a little disappointed when I run into people and have to go through a lot of dialogue.
In Bethesda games, I give up on trying to really soak in all the dialogue. Just know that the four dialogue buttons usually project the same attitude for all the conversations; I think at least. This way you can skip listening to a lot of the dialogue.
A= guenuine, personable "I will help" response
B= usually the asshole, "no I won't help and will make you angry" response
X= mix between sarcastic answers, charisma dialogue challenges (yellow/ orange/ red font stuff), etc. more teetering on the asshole B button side
Y =mix between sarcastic answers, charisma dialogue challenges ("/"/"""), etc. more teetering on the genuine, nice responses projected by the A button.
Of course, these are just my observations. I know a few times the dialogue has not followed this formula, but for most instances I feel like this is how it goes. I find myself just skipping 75% of the dialogue and clicking A or Y most of the time, yet a few people that have been dicks to me, I'll give them the B.

I also got this game at launch (first Xbox One game that I've done this for!) It's been really fun so far!
Did anyone else find the Donkey Kong mini-game?
I found it on the vault terminal before I even got out on the surface. I probably played it for 10 minutes or so.
Definitely just as fun as I was hoping.
