Gremlins 2 - NES

So our recent podcast game has been Gremlins 2. Anyone else have fond memories of this game?

I personally like it a lot and it was really fun to play. Reminded me a lot of the top down sections of Blaster Master with jumping. Ai Senshi Nicol for the Famicom Disk System actually was about the same style game.

  • I never played it, but remember getting excited about it when featured in Nintendo Power.
  • It's pretty fun. I've never had the time to get all the way through but I'd love to finish it someday

That was me too and exactly why we cover a lot of games that we do on our podcast. It gives us an excuse to play and BS about them!

  • Another personal favorite! Love the music and though the controls can be a bit wonky in some sections (diagonal jumping vs horizontal or vertical) it is a really fun game. Especially love the cinematics.
  • This is actually a great NES game that I discovered when randomly picking games on my Everdrive N8. It's a bit difficult and I've never completed it but still a lot of fun to play. New Ghostbusters II is another one that comes to mind.
  • Biggest thing that I remember about the game was the music. Very catchy. My brother and I made up some lyrics to go along with the tunes...those lyrics will stay between he and I, but the music definitely is one of the overlooked soundtracks of the NES library.
  • Gremlins 2 was/is a fantastic movie and I rented the NES game more than a few times as a kid. Of course the music is really well done but the graphics are also really good for the most part and the control is pretty good except for a few places where the overhead angle makes for troublesome platforming.

But overall, this game is great and I have fond memories of it. It's one of the early titles I picked up when I started to buy NES games again.
  • Just picked this one up the other day, have never been able to track down a copy before!
  • I remember the pogo
  • Great game that was one of the few on the system to do platforming well from that perspective without resorting to the strict grid of games like Startropics.

The moving platforms/jumping works better than the comparable mechanic in Crystalis, for instance.

Also, the single-use limited access shops added an element of "arcade difficulty" that makes the 5 level game more replayable that it otherwise would be.
  • Loved it. Hard at the time for some reason. First game I played at an Nes booth.
  • I already owned this game back in the day. Really fun game but I beat it pretty easily.
  • One of my few childhood games. Loved it and still do. Only beat it once though - and only because for some strange reason the final boss got stuck in the lower right corner so I could finish him off quite easily....
  • Love this game, has always been in my top 10 list for the NES. Great music and memorable gameplay.
  • It's a pretty traditional Sunsoft game.

    Good controls.

    Good graphics.

    Excellent soundtrack.

    Hard as balls.

It's good but it does get a little frustrating at points. I've gotten pretty far but never beaten it.
  • This game is cool, tough though (at least for me lol). For some reason I have a tough time jumping on those floating platforms and it's one of those games where enemies are always coming from angles that make it tough to hit them when they appear on screen, kinda like in Street Fighter 2010
  • Couldn't wait to play it after watching the movies. Liked the game, but I can't remember making it very far. Another one of many I'd like to try again.

On a related note, I just last week watched both Gremlins movies with my 6 year old daughter. She of course loved Gizmo, and just got a little freaked out about the Gremlins. I didn't remember how much Gremlins 2 made fun of the whole thing.
