My PS2 is very sick...

My beloved ps2 slim is on its final leg I think. I took it out to get some games off of my backlog. I seem to have misplaced my memory card (which is very sad) and upon hooking up my system it outputs to the tv in black and white and the disc reader is 10x louder than it used to be. I'm wondering if I can do anything to fix it, like replace the disc drive and laser etc.

Some of my favorite games are on the ps2 and I always want to have one around. For collectors of the system, what do you usually keep extra of? At this point I would like to stock up on controllers, memory cards, and a few systems just incase!

  • Sounds like the PSU is dying. It could just be bad caps, which are pretty easy to replace.
  • that might be the case, its the external psu though, it connects to the system with a barrel jack and has a transformer on the cable.
  • Oh, didn't see that it's a PS2 slim. Try another AC adapter then.
  • Usually cheaper to replace these now then to fix them. On the bright side there is no shortage of them around
