Don't be a Collectard
I've heard the word "collectard" thrown around a lot lately. I did a Google search for "collectard" and found this website:
http://www.collectard.com/
Whomever registered that domain has a pretty good sense of humor. Now open those old games and play them!

Not because I have games in boxes, but for the obvious reference to mentally handicapped people.
It's just an insensitive term that shouldn't be used.
BAHAHAHA! The only sealed game I own is Silent Assault... And I do NOT want to unseal that steamer.
Too bad the guy that popped in claiming to own a pallet of a gazillion Wario's Woods hasn't shown proof. That'd be a great game to own sealed. And yes, I have a minty loose copy to play...
I find the term rather offensive.
For the record, I wasn't the one who coined it, nor am I implying that people who collect games not to play them have some type of deficiency. I don't normally use the term as it may possibly offend people. For the record, I have ADD and had social probs as a child and people called me a r*tard in the past and it does hurt. But I think we're taking it out of context by calling the PC police everytime a word comes out that could possibly offend some minority group. Or a newly coined buzzword that is derivative to an offensive word.
I just thought it bemusing that someone went through the trouble to register the domain just for giggles. Normally when you add dotcom to a buzzword, there'd just be an ad portal or something.
Games were NOT meant to be played, they were meant to make the companies selling them lots and lots of money. Don't believe me? Spend an hour with it, then tell me superman 64 was meant to be "played". Then play firefly on the 2600, a game that makes ET look like a work of art.
We live in an age where you do not have to open the game to play it. You can keep the games sealed, and let your kids open Nintendo games in 10 years from now. Or for your 70th birthday, bam, open up that copy of Wind Wanker or whatever it's called.
Anti-collectards are generally nothing more than elitist hipsters. If sealed games are really so bad for them, then why the fuck are they not buying up old stock on amazon and letting the games go free?

I wouldn't put too much stock in the word retard being an offensive word. You hear people now adays saying we need a new term to replace it, but that just shows a lack of knowing how the term came about. Retard *IS* the replacement term that came about in the 1960s because the older terms were viewed as being negitive.
The simple fact is, any term you assign to a mental issue will be used as an insult. We need to stop viewing the word retard as something that only apples to people, because it doesn't. This push to stop using it is taking the word away from all the other uses. Now when I adjust timing on an older engine, people giggle when I explain what the R stands for rather than use the word for what it really means. Slow. And stuff liek flame retardant are next.
We live in a time where people get offended way too easily even be the smallest things, where they think they don't have the option to simply ignore it.
I don't take the term insulting and why should you honestly care? it's just one of the many made up words on the internet to call out someone of what their fans of.
For game related names ever heard of,
-Nintendrones
-Sonyggers
-Xbone
Get over it, this isn't something to be taken too personal than it ever originally was.

I understand what you're saying and I agree. I didn't say we should stop using the word "retard". It's the way it gets used that offends me.
If you want to use the word properly in a sentence, go ahead. It's the obvious, and negative way, the term gets used.
And I agree, it's just a word. You could use the term "mentally handicapped" or "slow" in a negative way and I get that.
What I was saying is: "Collectard" is an obvious reference to calling people with mental handicaps "retards" because of their percieved disabilities/shortcomings.
It's a term still mostly being used offensively. Use the word properly, fine. This wasn't one of those cases.
The word is still being used offensivley, on purpose, as articulately exposed by the fine gentleman with down syndrome:
https://specialolympicsblog.wordpress.com/2012/10/23/an-open-letter-to-ann-coulter/
Ann Coulter called someone a "retard" on twitter and that's what he had to say.
I think it's still relevant and hte word should not be used with such connotation. Again, it's the WAY a term gets used.
Example: I listen to lots of rap/hip hop music that uses the "N" word. Because of the context it's used, it's not offensive. Some other ways the word gets used can be VERY offensive.
Ron Jeremy with a PSA for collectards
ok, WHY. I own a sealed Mary-kate and Ashley pocket planner, it's on my desk now. Should I open it? I already know what it's like, I've played it on PSP before; makes anything AVGN reviewed look amazing, and would shut up any anti-color-a-dino haters in moments. Would releasing this beast help?
I own V-spike on TG-16. What would opening it do? I can, and have, played it on my TV many times. Is me keeping it sealed really preventing someone else from buying it? Cause I see they're still $9 on amazon.
Anyone who pretends they can't play a classic game because of cost is 100% full of shit. They can play them, they just can't play them the way the little whiney bitches want to, with physical media. Flash carts, emulators, ISOs, pre-32bit games are simple to play. These people do not want the games, they want the physical media, JUST like the people who want the boxes mint and sealed. There's no diffrence other than some people pretend to be better than others. I don't see how their wanting a cart to play a game they have other ways of playing is any diffrent than someone wanting a box. Some people LIKE to remember what it was like to pick up a game in the store and remember what a sealed game was like.

Would you sleep with
Cause he has. And he sells his image out now to fake penis enlargment pills now. I used to have a t-shirt with his pic on it with the caption "My daddy" below it, but now I don't trust him. He's moved into crazy old man area willing to scam people with small penises out of money. So yea, I don't think I would agree with everything Ron says now.

Yes. YES! YYEEESSS!!! "Obey the PCe."
Now observe the graphic on the far right on the collectard homepage:
Notice the sash. Ron Jeremy is somehow behind this. MIND-BLOWN!!!

Would anti-collectards be "Vidiots"?
It must be refreshing to have such a simple mind and so much time and space in the brain to foster deep enough thought to come up with jealous laden catch-phrases to offend not one, but two broad walks of life at once. Whoever coined this phrase needs a new term of mental prowess coined to showcase their jaw-dropping cranial capabilities.
This. Very well said.

what about a "name caller"

Yeah great idea. Somebody hack Spy Vs Spy or some other random 2p game so that it's vidots vs collectards. Since there's no formal definition of "vidiot," I'll make one:
"Vidiots" are people who don't give a crap about the condition of their collection as long as it's playable. By contrast, "Collectards" care only about the minty freshness of their collection to the point they refuse to risk degradation of it's condition by actually playing the media.
And ftr "Vidiot" has been around a lot longer than "Collectard." Try the 1983 movie Joysticks, great cult classic with the antagonist that goes only by the name "Vidiot."

They won't be able to ear you with their ears covered, though:

LOL, classic! But I must know, is the unfortunate soul in the photo a Vidiot or a Collectard?
MOLON LABE
Happy B-day to you!

Don't you feel silly posting stuff like that? It's my little pony bro-ster stuff. I mean gah, I'm a dipshit, and even I would have too much dignity for that. And I've been a Duo fanboy for over 20 years.

Mor intelligent than peeps posting photos of peeps with they hedz shoved up they bums...
It's not the first time I've seen that photo posted though. Where did the whole "Obey PC-Engine" MEME first originate? I know they got a region mod named after it but still...
I've been playing a lot of Trubografx lately and recently subed to the pcenginefx forums. It is a kick ass system.

Because if they were real there would be continuous news coverage, world-wide, reporting the findings, and you wouldn't have to buy them from some shady looking ad-link on the internet.
