I don't care about what people do, but I'll bet if everyone who owned Palamedes played it we would all know how boss it is.
No joke, that game is awesome and should resolve every problems in the world.
Yer darn tootin' there, pard. bimmy lee turned me on to the awesomeness of Palamedes.
Palmedes. I gotta pop this in my Everdrive sometime. I'm always down for another puzzler...
Dude, if you dig it let me know. That game is too fun. Of course, you will definitely want to make sure you read up on the rules and such before you play, trust me.

I sense a hint of sarcasm?
No, not at all. You just want to make sure you know how the tiles in the game work and how to accumulate more points and such. For those who have the cartridge itself, some of that info is printed on the label (?!), but that doesn't help much once you pop it in, haha.

Kudos. I've just heard turd games sarcastically suggested as "hidden gems" too many times in the past.

I definitely hear ya there. Palamedes is genuinely fun as hell, bimmy lee turned me on to it. The only problem is that the gameplay isn't as intuitive as, say, Tetris or Dr. Mario. But it really is a great game, one of my favorites.
Another good puzzle game that never gets any credit is Flip Out for the Jaguar. I love that game and I can easily loose an hour or more playing it. Graphics are kind of ugly, but that doesn't bother me on a puzzle game.
I find the term "I find the term rather offensive" rather offensive. Plz support my Patreon.
Well now I'm REALLY offended. (sarcasm)
And you have every right to be offended, or not. So do others have the right to free speech.
Certainly. What's your point?
I think his point was that someone's right to be offended doesn't cancel out anyone's freedom of speech. If a term offends you, you have every right to not like it, not use it, etc. but it doesn't mean anyone is in the wrong for using it.
Context is what matters above anything else, is it not? In this case, it seems like the site in the OP is using the term collectard to poke fun at the extreme side of the hobby you and I enjoy. A simple childish joke, I don't see the harm in that.

Sorry guys, we must have misunderstood eachother here.
I replied to the OP as stated above (that the term was rather offensive)..... when Nightstar6999 wrote what he did I was not offended, I actually thought it was pretty funny.
So I sarcastically said I was offended... because I wasn't.
I don't mind people using freedom of speech. I still think words can be used hatefully but I'm certainly not going to get all worked up about one for video games. It's more about the connotation to mentally handicapped people that is offensive.
And I agree about context. I already discussed the context of the word being most important in above posts.
I also though the Futurama reference was funny.... Although I was making a joke about being offended. I thought that was apparent, haha.

To add up to your point, I'd say that the defense of the freedom of speech deserves more important questions than what's being discussed in this thread.

Dude, I am glad that you can articulate yourself far better than I. You know, like you talk much better than I do. Zing! But all joking aside, this reminds me of that Cool Cat chump. Both of 'em. Hell, all of 'em. Really?
And yeah, I get who was kidding around and who was not. But it all comes down to the way one does articulate oneself, and how one presents one's words and points. Unfortunately, nobody these days can comprehend what another is saying because sarcasm has run rampant so who knows?

Agreed... Love that Simpson's line. But only if you're not being sarcastic, in which case I really don't agree.
I agree to disagree with your agreeance.
Haha... I hope the sarcasm was apparent there. If me saying "(Sarcasm)" and "I hope the sarcasm was apparent there" is not enough for people to understand my sarcasm then there is no saving this sarcastic troll-laden world and I will never use sarcasm ever again.... oops, there I go again.
Can you all stop being offended by people offended by people being offended. You've all turned this thread into a futurama skit:
Anyways, the big brain am winning again! I am the greetest! Mwa-ha-ha-ha! Now I am leaving this thread for no raisin!
Just to make it clear, I thought this Futurama reference was funny.
Haha, even though I was 100% joking when I said "Well now I'm REALLY offended. (sarcasm)" which I thought I made clear by indicating it was sarcasm. That's okay, this is the internet, there's not a lot of tone that can be conveyed.
Ps. I think you should look at your spell check and work on your grammar. It's not the greetest thing to leave for no raisin. I'll be raisin' the stakes with my grammar police.
Haha, okay, that was stupid.... but I hope you understand my joke. Saaaaaaaaaaarcaaaaaaaaaaasm. Because I understood what you did there.... with the poor grammar and troll type words.
That is what you were going for, right? Haha... Just try being inside my brain. It's scary in here.
That was a perfect parody for a very common mindset these days.
I fail to see the relevance in the actual relation to this conversation.... "reality" is NOT that the term "collectard" is okay to use and should be acceptable.
When someone says "collectard" it's completely demeaning an entire range of the human population. To be clear, I'm talking about people who are mentally challenged.
I don't care about what collectors think or the reference to video gaming. I am strictly talking about it's reference to the use of the word "retard". Which, in this case, is clearly NOT referring to the use of the actual word, but a more hateful connotation to a wide variety of people.
Freedom of speech still allows you to be an asshole if you're being insensitive and ignorant. I don't need to go to my safe place because you are ignorant.
It's not socally acceptable to use the "N" word, or "faggot" towards the homosexual community. Why are we allowing references to people who are "retarded" still?
Does everyone get my point now?
Collectors/video game devotees are NOT RELEVANT to my stance. It's the "tard" reference.
Call me over sensitive, or tell me to go to my "safe place" but shaming any sector of society for their difference should not go unnoticed.
(Also, for the record, I do think it's stupid to keep games on a shelf and never ever play them, which is even more reason for me to dislike the words' reference to mentally challenged people)

Just FYI, what I said has nothing to do with this thread (didn't read it, don't care).
However I see people all over Facebook that get so easily offended and to be honest it gets tiring.
When does censorship stop? Will people keep inventing things to be offended by until eventually we have all gender neutral words and every text and TV show becomes vanilla? A war on 'things I'm offended by' is just as fruitless as a war on an ideology.
I didn't read this thread, but I know first-hand there are a lot of writers who surround themselves with Yes-men and go cry a river over any negative reviews rather than learning from them. They, for starters, should all watch that video.

Understood. I agree. I think the South Park reference could be good for a lot of things.
In terms of this thread, I don't think it's relevant. You can read the thread if you'd like but I respect it if you don't want to.
Basically it boils down to this. I think the term "collectard" is demeaning to people with special needs.
It's not socally acceptable to use the "N" word, or "faggot" towards the homosexual community. Why are we allowing references to people who are "retarded" still?
I think the biggest difference is:
"the N word" and "faggot" (or any other homosexual slur) are words that are applied in genuine hate toward the people they reference.
"retard" or "retarded" GENERALLY isn't saying you HATE mentally handicapped people, it is more that you are using it to say the specific person or group you are applying the label to is doing something stupid or unintelligent and it is a quick term to directly imply a lack of mental faculty.
There are hate groups that harness that other language to try and destroy the groups they reference.
I've never been aware of some KKK or Westboro-Baptist equivalent that parades around saying "God hates retards".
Yes, it is an insensitive term that is applied carelessly.
But it isn't equivalent to the hate speech you're comparing it to.
EDIT: and to put the word "retard" into perspective... are you offended by the use of the word "idiot" or "moron"?
Because they used to be literal descriptors of specific levels of mental handicap that were eventually replaced by a catch-all term.
That was a perfect parody for a very common mindset these days.

I see. I have a child with special needs, but I guess all that matters is that personally, I wouldn't call someone or something 'retarded'. But I also know I can't go on a crusade to stop others from saying it. Most people will never know what it's like to have a child with special needs, and I don't expect them to.

I don't care about what people do, but I'll bet if everyone who owned Palamedes played it we would all know how boss it is.

I didn't read this thread, but I know first-hand there are a lot of writers for instance who surround themselves with Yes-men who love their work and go cry a river over any negative reviews rather than learning from them.

I see. I have a child with special needs, but I guess all that matters is that personally, I wouldn't call someone or something 'retarded'. But I also know I can't go on a crusade to stop others from saying it. Most people will never know what it's like to have a child with special needs, and I don't expect them to.
