Games you want so bad to like....

  • Ocarina of time comes to mind.
  • Majora's Mask and Super Mario Sunshine
  • Anything released by Nintendo in the last like 8 years on the WII and WII U. With obviously a couple exceptions.

I WANT to like the new games by Nintendo but they are just so much of the "same" that i get immediately bored with them.

Nintendo games don't really have stories that keep me interested, and the constant rehashing and reusing of the same characters and franchises gets old real fast for me.

It's possible i am just outgrowing Nintendo at this point :/

Yeah I've never considered selling a Nintendo console during its lifetime before but I really have been on the verge of getting rid of mine. Like I said my only fear is that Zelda will be so awesome that I'll regret selling my system and missing out on it. I think if Zelda Wii U disappoints me I might get rid of it. If I love it, I'll probably keep it. It's sad to think that while the Wii had a ton of shovelware, Nintendo first party titles were generally very good, but with the Wii U, even some of Nintendo's own titles feel like shovelware.

What did you expect from the Wii U?  It's not a standalone console, it's meant to be complemenatary with a PS4 or XB1.  My XB1 sees the most playtime, and I only break out the Wii U once or twice a year.

I don't purchase a console until there are 3 must plays for it... and I did so shortly after the release of Pikmin 3.  The 3 must plays at the time were New Super Mario Wii U (which you didn't mention?  One of the best Marios I've ever played), Super Mario 3D Land (ok for awhile) and Pikmin 3.

If you bought the console expecting it to be a XB1 / PS4 killer, then yeah, I bet you are disappointed.  But no one in their right mind could have expected that, Nintendo is always gimmicky with good games here and there while Sony / MS are more traditional lineups with tons of 3rd party support.

    I adore my Wii U.

I thought SM3DL was phenomenal. Far better than Galaxy. Add MK8 (even though they screwed the battle mode), Super Mario Maker, Pikmin 3, Yoshi's Wooly World, Captain Toad etc and you've got a great first party lineup. Once Starfox, Zelda and hopefully another Kirby Dreamland game come out, hopefully you'll enjoy it more. Nobody has the charm like Nintendo. It's timeless fun.

Also, Bayonetta 2 is one of the best action games I've ever played. I couldn't put it down until I beat it.

I kind of feel you on that. There definitely are exceptions but the average Nintendo game released in the last 10 years is often forgettable and doesn't capture me the way they used to. Even when I finally find a game I do like, when I go back and play something from SNES or N64 and the oldies just blow the new stuff out of the water. The charm is slowly dying and with Nintendo putting out more and more passionless products, I might be completely done buying any new Nintendo consoles, which is fine because there have been a ton of great stuff for the classic consoles.
  • Super Mario Galaxy...played it for an hour and just couldn't get into it. Maybe it was my mood that day, but I guess I just enjoy 2D Mario more than the 3D offerings.
  • Ocarina of Time (I know most of you almost choked when I said that). I have tried going through it several times and it feels more like a chore than fun. Maybe it's cause I am kinda anti N64, but just can't get into it. Also would have to put both Brawl and Smash Bros Wii U in as well. Brawl kinda ruined the series for me and while Wii U is better, my skills in game have regressed to the point where I just constantly get my ass kicked online.
  • NES Magmax.

I own the prototype but the game is soooo bad.

Its a SHUMP but has bad music and repeating levels...

It is still a cool piece of NES history though.

There's some serious disconnect between the badass boxart and the actual game on that one.

  • The Zelda series. I've only played through the first two but only because I felt I had since I love Nintendo so much. As for the comments on the wii u, I can see how you feel this way in being disappointed but maybe the expectations were a little too high. I've loved all the Mario games on it to date and it's a great system for younger kids which I have. I really enjoyed playing and finishing the Marios and now me and the boy race all the time on mk8. Makes it worth it to me.
  • Double post
  • Final Fantasy X. The intro is so long and tedious, I just can't get past it.

Final Fantasy VII is the one that does it for me with the series. I loved FF 1, 2 and 3 (American) and have seen and heard the legions of people who herald FF7 as the greatest video game ever conceived...but I really have a hard time getting into it.

And since I haven't been able to finish 7, I've never made the trip to any of the others. I did watch a friend play through FFX whenever I came to visit back in the day. I remember thinking the graphics were nice but didn't otherwise come away impressed.

Same here. Donkey and Diddy Kong are a perfect side-scrolling combo. With a playable DK taken out from the sequels, it's odd to even call the game Donkey Kong Country at that point. The sequels also stray a bit from the tranquil jungle theme that I absolutely love. What else is strange is that I got 101% multiple times in the first DKC but never even cared to get everything in the sequels. Level design is a biggie too I feel. Original DKC stages are just instant classics for me.
  • *shrug*

I enjoyed the original DKC and the sequels. Diddy Kong is the better character for most parts of the first one anyway.

level design? how the hell is level design worse in the sequels? lol Quit making stuff up

I must say you mention jungle theme, but dkc 1 isnt all jungle theme. Temple and Underground, Forest, Water, Snow mountain, oil factory, pirate ship end boss. World 1 is jungle theme lol. Every game has different areas and themes. 2 was such a better game. and 3 actually expanded it more. I mean if you enjoy getting everything in the first game there literally is no reason to not want to try in the other games. So much more polished and stuff to do.

My guess is you never really played the 2nd and 3rd ones when you were young so you dont  have nostalgia for them like the first so you are making up reasons to yourself why you dont like them. They are fundamentally way better games.
  • I'm a huge fan of DKC, especially the first game. The second game was also incredibly solid for me, even though I was sad to learn that Donkey was on the outs. DKC3 is where they lost me. Even though Dixie was a fine character, the fact that neither of the original Kongs were in the game was a disappointment.

That said, I've been playing through the series starting this past week, including those entries I never got to play in my youth...and I have to say that, thus far, Donkey Kong Land is very much falling into that "want to love it but not sure I can" category. The crucial element that makes the DKC games such great experiences, and that is proving to be the biggest flaw of DKL, is smooth and fluent play control. The movement and jumping in "Land" feels so stiff by comparison and, combined with the narrow view field, even basic platforming is proving to be a real challenge. The graphics and music are pretty good for Game Boy and it still has some of that DKC charm, but the frustrating control is just killing it for me. I've hit 3 Game Overs on Stage 1-6 and I'm not sure how much more aggravation I can take before I call it quits.
  • DKC3 is probably my least favorite in the series even though I like it. It was also the hardest for me because of the difficulty of "Lightning Lookout". But I beat it on the PC on an emulator. I wonder if that level is much easier on real hardware.
  • I really wanted to like kid icarus uprising for the 3ds, but good lord are the controls terrible! It's a shame too because I feel like this game could be really good if only you could actually play it! The monster hunter series is a series I really wanted to like as well, but the games are way too frickin long. I don't have time for that anymore, and I just felt the tasks to be SUPER repetitive, and not interesting. Way too much side stuff/grinding to make it fun for me.
  • Faria for the NES was a big disappointment for me. I got it for a good price on the forum and knowing it was from Gamearts, the makers of Alisia Dragoon and Lunar, I was expecting a great game in the likes of Zelda and Crystalis, I lost all faith trying to figure out the first tower with the big and bland level design with no game map and confusing and cryptic puzzles and doors.
  • The RPG games

I didn't know about this genre before.

A year ago I tried for the first time an RPG, Final Fantasy III

I didn't understand it, to stumble upon enemies and menu screens popping up to choose some kind of attack, just didn't get it and it became anoying after the fourth enemy.

But I'm so wanting to like them, they look very well done, that's why I stopped playing it after 25mins when I realize I wasn't liking it and that must been doing something wrong, so I don't want to ruin the experience by not knowing how to play.

I decided to check them out again later

Oh, and basically any game that I haven't played before and costed me big $$, I surely want to like it so I can feel better about my decision of buying it XP
  • Ive been trying to enjoy smash bros since like 2000, its a great concept and I see how happy it makes others, but I can't fucking enjoy it at all.

Same with Mortal Kombat, I've got it for like ten different systems and never have any fun with it, I always think street fighter and king of fighters blows this shit out of the water.

I've heard plenty of people say how great sonic 3, and Sonic CD is, but I can't get into either, I forced myself to play it.

Xenogears on the PS, I liked the story, but for some reason I had to force myself to play it all the way through, too fucking generic.

I enjoyed Earthbound, FF6, FF4, Breath Of Fire, Lufia on SNES, but once again had to force myself through chrono trigger as well, just couldn't enjoy it.

Couldn't get into the gradius franchise at all, but love MUSHA, Blazing Lasers, Astro Warrior, Sidearms, Ikaruga, Truxton, Sol-Feace, lords of thunder etc..., but gradius just felt like shit to me, I want to like it.

.....seeing if I can fucking brainstorm more shit.

Panzer dragoon on Saturn was underwhelming for me, yet I don't mind Star Fox64.

The newest pokemon games are horrendous for me, I could barely get past the GBA ones.

Conkers Bad fur day, I can't enjoy it, I'm fine with vulgar, in fact the more fucked up, repulsive and shocking the better, I just had more fun with DK64 and Banjo Kazooie.

Dark Cloud on ps2, I always get to the third or fourth area and its so fucking repetitive I can't stand it, yet I can play shit like double dungeons on TurboGrafx no problem.

I decided to try out shit other people like, such as Assassins Creed, Call of Duty, Skyrim, Halo, GTA etc.., but it all feels like bland lifeless bullshit, but I guess games don't have the charm they used to, half the games a fucking CGI movie, 80 hour tutorial on how to press a fucking button to open a door etc, so I guess most modern shit as well, I want to like it so I can be happy about new releases but gamings essentially dead to me nowadays.
  • Zelda OoT. Despite vehemently not liking it, I really want to like it. I love the Zelda franchise. I adore the NES/SNES Zeldas. It pains me that the one game in the franchise that so many other people hold up as the crown jewel, is the one I just can't stand to play. I don't like not-liking it.
