Yep, I'm in the same boat.

As much as I want to play the new Battlefront, there's no way I'm moving into a new system just yet. If I could play PS3 games on it, that would sell me on it instantly. Those douchebags knew exactly what they were doing by choosing not to release that game on PS3 and 360. I'm not going to let them force my hand, though. I'll be waiting patiently for some more price drops.

I can half see your point about backwards compatibility (although truthfully I think South Park: The Stick of Truth would be the only PS3 game I would ever bother to play on PS4), but paying to play online is just the state of video games right now, and likely from here on out. I know some will say "Wii U online is still free", but Wii U doesn't offer nearly the online gaming experience of the PS4 or Xbox One. I think paying to play online is going to go hand-in-hand with owning any newer system for the foreseeable future, so it's either a hump you can get over, or you'll be stuck on whichever generation you're still playing for the foreseeable future. I think PS4 and XB1 have a good thing going by offering "free" games each month with their online services, and to most this will be worth the price of admission alone. Since it's a bit of a double-bang for your buck, I think it's a fair deal. I've certainly played more than $50 worth of PS Plus games this year, and I've played my share of online games too. I thought paying to play online sucked at first too, but since there are so many extras included, I've had a change of heart. Hopefully you don't let it hold you back for long, there are a lot of great games to play.

Im not a big online player. I play very few games online, and its pretty few and far between. Not worth me paying money for it, thats for sure. Star Wars looks fun, but not enough for me to drop $50 a year to play a game I have already purchased using internet that I already pay for.

Backwards compatibility is the kicker for me really. I always hear "they cant fit all the hardware needed to support that" which is nonsense. My shitty laptop plays 3 decades worth of PC games and emulates dozens of systems without an issue. Yet a game console that outperforms just about every aspect of my laptop cant do it? Its just silly. Im not a fan of being nickled and dimed so I pick and choose what I buy.

  • 4$ a month...come on
  • And free games that are worth it most of the time

    Me too

I never understood why people complain about 60/ year to play online. Yeah I wish everything was free too but thats not the way things are.

Are the people that dont want to pay that money the same people that will pay 100$ for color a dinosaur or 1100 for a majoras mask nfr? It boggles me.

  • No point in getting Battlefront and not playing it online. There is no real campaign. Fun online game though
  • I'm still holding out until Final Fantasy 7 gets re-released for it (and hoping for a PS4 bundle with it).
  • The only knock I could give to this console generation (Wii U excluded) is that the exclusivity gap between consoles and PCs are the narrowest they've ever been, a mini-ITX gaming PC or Steam box is a strong alternative for the living room for better performance and free online.
  • Of course the option still exists to get the system and not bother with the online aspect of it, if you're really not into it at all.

Yeah, I was just reading about this. What a let-down... Looks beautiful, though.

Oh, well. Makes it all the more easy to wait for.

Yeah that part really sucked. But I picked it up yesterday and what is included is a blast to play at least.

What is there to do with the game off-line?

The gameplay offline is mode-based. Survival and Mission modes with different objectives. Survival mode is somewhat like zombies mode in Call of Duty, only the waves are not unlimited (from what I've played so far), and the mission modes are more about things like finding collectibles, capturing pods, deathmatches, and that sort of thing. It probably sounds pretty blah from the way I'm describing it, but I assure you it's a lot of fun.

Any unlocks, or rewards as you complete all of the missions?

I actually bought a PS4 tonight. I purchased the Black Ops 3 1TB limited edition bundle. I was initially torn between this and the SW: Battle Front bundle with the Darth PS4. One of the reason I decided to go with the Blops edition is because I planned on picking up that game anyway (a number of my friends have it) and because of the 1TB drive on it. Another reason is this bundle seems to be already really hard to come by around my area and on most Canadian retail websites. Also, the Darth version was also released with the Disney Infinity which I think takes away from the battle front bundle. The price of the DLC for Battlefront definitely put a damper on the thought of getting that edition, too.

Having said all that I am keeping it sealed for the time being as I am not sure I want it. A couple reasons I want to wait to open it.

-Holiday price drop (although unlikely with the Blops PS4)

-Still content with my Wii U and have games to keep me busy

-I really want to get into Street Fighter V and if there was bundle coming out for that in a month it would be disappointing. (though I could just sell my current PS4).

-Even though a lot of my friends have it there isn't one single game I absolutely have to play on it right now. (really looking forward to SF V, Mirror's Edge, Doom, and Uncharted 4).

Advice on what I should do? Open it up and forget about it? Save and wait for a different bundle/possible price cut?

I also like to read some more opinions on how people like their PS4 now that were further into it. Anything you really hate about it? Most of the comments in here are quite positive, which is good.

Open the fucker and play Fallout 4, it's awesome.

This this this. It really baffles me whenever someone says that there aren't enough must-play titles to either justify buying a PS4, or playing the one they have. There are loads of great games for the PS4, and if you don't think there are enough good reasons to buy or play one, it's hard to think that anything current-gen would appeal to you right now. Right off the top of my head Fallout 4, The Witcher 3, Black Ops III, Bloodborne, GTA5, Far Cry 4, Metal Gear Solid V:The Phantom Pain, Star Wars Battlefront, Mortal Kombat X, Destiny, and The Last of Us: Remastered spring to mind. Any one of those could be a system-seller in my opinion, and most of them are either nearly endlessly replayable, or very very lengthy games. C'mon OP, have a little YOLO moment and open that fucker up!

For me it's not so much about the library it's more about the reasons I stated like price, timing, etc. I was gonna get a PS4 regardless within Q1 of 2016 anyway, just wanted to ask about some more games and if anyone had any major issues with the system since this was somewhat of an impulse buy. Games up here are almost $100 a pop after tax ($80 + 13%) which doesn't include any season passes or DLC, so I just wanted some more opinions before I took the plunge. Ultimately you're right though... I will be cracking this bad boy open with all the good feedback I got from here and other sites and I do look forward to playing a lot of the games you mentioned.

Oh I'm right there with you, I'm from BC and just paid $170 for a copy of Star Wars Battlefront and a new controller. Unbelievable. That's for the regular edition without the season's pass, or any of the tacked-on goodies. Definitely open it up and take it for a spin though, the differenec between opening it now and waiting for some other package to come out is going to be a few bucks here or there, and probably some effort. You won't be thinking of that few bucks when you're having a blast playing it, I assure you.

Yeah, gonna crack it open in a few days when I get a break from work. I might look into getting a copy of BattleFront for the holidays.
