  • as far as memories of the game they are recent. I never had this as a kid but got it a couple years ago in my early collecting days....

My fondest memory is when I 1st beat the game, I still haven't felt that same rush as I did beating the third form of the boss. And I did it without the spin attack.. at the time I didn't even realize how devastating it is to the bosses in the game. I still remember when I beat it I jumped up and shouted... the wife thought I was nuts lol.

I went on to beat II also... never finished III... maybe my next gaming goal...

Right now I'd say that the American version of "Ninja Gaiden III" has the hardest final act ("Ninja Gaiden II" has the easiest). Keeping the spinning fire shield helps, but it's still really hard. It's practically obscene that there is only one health power-up and it's halfway through the stage. 7-3C is the furthest I've gotten.

    EDIT:

I made it to the final bosses and almost killed the first form. But stage 7-3B is a real health drainer. I need to figure out how to get through the crumbling platform part without losing any health.

NGIII also restarts you at the very beginning of the entire game when you Game Over, correct?

    Yeah, fuck that, lol.

I've been trying to do that as well since I noticed this thread. The second form of the final boss is usually what does me in since I can't seem to beat him with just the sword (since the game takes away the spin slash after defeating the first form). I've been able to get past him on the second attempt after getting the spin slash weapon back and beat the demon form with just the sword, but that's the best I've been able to do.

Did you ever finish StarTropics? I think you last posted that you had taken a break on Chapter 5 in the thread that I made during my playthrough.

I have not. That was my "take a break from Battletoads for a bit" game. It's not a priority title for me to complete, but it will be completed eventually. Great game to take a load off with.

I had to power through Battletoads until I finished it. That game frustrated me so much that I knew if I took a break, I'd never get around to beating it.

I can usually beat the second form with the sword. Just avoid his fireballs, jump onto the wall and leap off and slash him when he's close enough.

I have more trouble with the third form and dodging all those things it spits out that do three health points of damage.

You get five continues and then it's game over. But the game is generous with extra lives. You can easily rack up nine lives right before the final act. And the final act has two areas with a 1UP.

I've beaten the first boss form and now I'm trying to figure out how to beat the second. One way that this game is harder than the first two is that there is no health refill before the final bosses. The only health power-up is halfway through the act and then you have to not get much damage the rest of the way, or figure out how to beat the bosses with low health. It's ridiculous.

I've beaten him before by doing that, but it seems like it takes forever. Most of the time I get impatient and try to stand on one of the pillars and use quick jumping slashes only to end up being swarmed by fireballs. I saw a speedrun video on YouTube where the guy just stayed on the upper left wall and would jump down to use the quick slash when the boss got close. I've tried that method a few times, but I never had any luck.

Ah, gotchya! I've never played II or III, so I'm pretty clueless.

I'm going to try for another run in a bit.

I haven't really played Ninja Gaiden III in a few years, but from what I remember, it was pushing Battletoads level tough. I decided to play through all three in a row one Saturday a couple of years back and I spent almost the entire day on NGIII alone. All that I really remember is not wanting anything else to do with the game after I finally finished it. The first game can be really frustrating, but at least having unlimited continues gives you a chance to practice as long as you want to.

  • I JUST BEAT "NINJA GAIDEN III". OH HELL YEAH! LAST LIFE ON MY LAST CONTINUE!

It's the only entry in the series I haven't beaten without a game over, but oh well. It's tough as nails.

It requires a lot of patience and concentration. As soon as you start to rush and get sloppy, that's when he kills you.

It's not quite Battletoads tough. There are probably individual levels in that game that are as hard to beat as "Ninja Gaiden III" or worse. It's still one of the toughest games I've completed and I'm definitely taking a break from it for awhile.

I just gave it another shot and still no luck. I've only done it 2 or 3 times before. It's actually easier for me just to run through all of Act VI again, which isn't really that bad since I get a higher final score that way.

  • Congrats! that's one I still need to beat
  • Nice dude, I still have yet to even play Ninja Gaiden III but am a really big fan and have 1+2 CIB....just haven't ran into one yet in the wild I avoid Ebay as much as possible.

I got mine for $40 from Amazon for a loose cart in decent condition. I had to clean the contacts a few times. That's about as good a deal as you can get on it these days.

I may use Ebay to get this one..... need to complete the trilogy.

  • I'd say that it's worth the high price (as long as you don't pay _too_ much). It's far from Battletoads hard, but it should take you a while to beat it, especially the last stage. You'll get your money's worth.

I played through Ninja Gaiden II this evening and beat it in a reasonable amount of time considering I haven't played it in over a year. I gave NGIII a shot and only made it about halfway through Act 3. I probably got my money's worth the first time I beat it a few years ago, but I might as well give it another shot.

  • NG3 was about $40 when I picked it up and I'd agree you get your money worth with it
  • UPDATE!

I'm now making it to the boss almost every time I pop the game in. Slow but steady progress!

If you can hold on to the spin slash through 6-3 you should be all set. Good luck!

That's the new goal! Prepare for a massive update with pics upon completion, hopefully by this weekend.

I had to use the spin slash the first time I beat the game. It's a great feeling to see that bastard Jaquio finally go down in flames.

With more practice you'll be able to beat the final bosses with just your sword. It's way easier than Battletoads.

I honestly don't mind losing a life to go back and get the spin slash again just for that reason.

  • Update:

I'm totally done with this game for a while again. I spent 3 hours straight trying to beat the boss, and couldn't get it done. Back to Battletoads for the time being. I almost threw this fucking game through the wall, lmao.

Man, I was hoping that you posted to say that you beat it! Which form of the boss are you stuck on? The second one takes forever with just the sword, but if you stay on the ground, you can usually dodge his fireballs and jump up and hit him when you get a clean shot.
