Can you guys tell me how rare (if at all) this is? Thank you.
It seems that yours is the second known copy, so pretty damn rare! Nice find!
Can you or someone else explain the 5-screw "factory mismatch"? I can't remember how you can tell if a cart should be a 3 or 5 screw (without looking at the screws).

Tracked down a 3-screw Gyromite. I still feel a little stupid for selling the previous one I had but this wasn't terribly pricey and that juuuust about makes up for it.

BTW my buddy has one. I saw it and verified it but he doesnt have an account here. He found it in CT and its not the canadian version.

Yeah kickmeister .. there shouldnt be any print under the Nintendo seal ... if it says CAN under that and/or the back is in English and french its not to rare at all
toxic Collector - i have 2 5 screw super pitfalls its very uncommon but its not super rare like the others tracked. but it is difficult to find one. that, Alpha Mission and Goonies II 5 screw as well.
I found this in my collection yesterday....Castlevania 2 - 5 screw. Not sure if there are any other copies floating around..... the copy on the right is just for reference. It is the regular 3 screw.

I just wanted to update. I ended up trading this Castlevania II cart to a Castllevania collector, so it is no longer in my possession. I think the photos I posted should be sufficient for documentation, but I did take others before shipping the game out. As best as I can tell this cart came into existence through the following process:
1. Original owner purchased the game in a 3 screw cart. (There are no factory 5 screw Castlevania II's)
2. The cartridge was damaged and sent to a Nintendo Repair Facility.
3. The repair facility still had a stock pile of 5 screw cases, probably left over when the switch to 3 screw was made. (My understanding is that Nintendo sent all the left over 5 screw cases to their repair facilities)
4. The repair facility attached removed the board and encased it in a 5 screw case and affixed a new label. (Whether they printed their own labels, or ordered them from Nintendo is unknown to me....any feedback on this?)
5. The cartridge was sent back to the person who sent it in for repair. It is generally understood that repair facilities did not attach caution labels to the backs of their repairs, hence the blank space on the back of the cart.
I hope this helps. Just in case anyone else finds one of these, and searches the Net like I did
Ever since I found this thread I've been curious about if I had any vairents. I had a few but I've aquired more recently.
We had the 3 screw solom, and the 3 screw excitibike CIB already.
Just the other day we picked up the 3 screw pinball and the 3 screw lode runner (with the mistreated label)
And yesterday we went to buybacks and got the Lunar pool 5 screw, Burgertime 5 screw, Karate champ 3 screw and the SAD looking golf 3 screw for under 10$
However seeing as my girlfriend has become extremly interest in the varients, (quoting her If there's a varient she wants the 5 and 3 screw version of the game.) I'm sure I'll have more posts to come!

Hello. This is Jesse (Cid). I am the one that acquired this from Andy. Once it arrives I'll post some pics and it can be added to the list.

I figured the same. It looks like it is a 1:1 and when I had a number of people VERY interested in it (initially 15), I knew it was something unique. Jesse and I worked out a trade that we are both very happy with: he collects Castlevania items, and I am trying to collect the licenced NES run, so we found a good fit.
I did read the article yesterday that Ferris Bueller wrote, and I was pretty impressed. He really knows his stuff. I'm sure that there are more of this type of thing out there, and I will always keep a lookout for them. I've also passed my experience on to other collectors, who knows, maybe as people go through their collections looking for gems. they'll see the opportunity to increase their collections too.....more unique variants for you guys!
Jesse, I did post some pics already, for documentation purposes.
I actually wanted to get an idea of 'production run' dates for the rarer 3 screw / 5 screw games, to get an idea when they'd fit. It seems that if it was a second print, even within the year of 87 it was 3 screw. First runs are 5 screw, and even sometimes a week or so later, 5s would turn to 3 (For example, Goonies 2 5 screw is week 43 of 1987, 3 screw is week 44 of 1987).
Im intereted, if anyone has the PRG/CHR date codes for:
3 Screw:
Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong Jr
Donkey Kong Jr Math
(I see Donkey Kong 3 has another run in week 47 of 1987, so im guessing those other 3 did too, in limited quanities)
5 Screw:
Mike Tysons Punch out
Mega Man
Star Force
Jaws
My 5 screw MTPO i cant really get the date code on, I think its mid november of 87 (But the MMC2 is December?).
Id really appreciate it and could give us more knowledge and understanding. For example I found out that they reprinted Volleyball in late 87, which means any printed then are 3 screw versions. And if Nintendo had a minimum print run of 10K, we can assume how many might be out there, if they were sold.
I received the 5-screw Castlevania II from Andy the other day. Please feel free to add it to the list. You can use his photos or I can upload my own. Whichever you prefer.
