Looking for certain types of RPG's

I'm looking for a certain style of RPG but I'm having a hard time describing it so bear wth me. Think Threads of Fate & Legend of Mana, games that have that storybook look and feel. Castles, dragons, swords and whatnot. No matter how well known it is if you can think of it please let me know. NES thru PS4, any console.

    I believe it's 360.

Not from what I recall of it, but then again I like the Tales series as well, but Ni No Kuni isn't anything like I've ever played before and with Studio Ghibli having a hand in it is a plus. Well worth a look into in my book.

Also came out on ps3 later. Great game! I wouldn't say it's alot like those other 2 though. And Ni No Kuni isn't like the Tales games. Only comparable thing is the overworld map in Ni No Kuni is similar to the one in Tales of Vesperia, gameplay wise it's totally different. Plays almost like a Pokemon game where you collect Familiars like Pokemon and use em in battle. You don't have to though and can battle with your character instead. Battling is relatively traditional rpg style.

I think I would recommend Radiata Stories and maybe the Star Ocean series if you hadn't checked it out.
  • I know it's a bit of Sony bias but here's a thread which should give you plenty of great suggestions!

  • I have shadow hearts 1-3 on ps2 in pretty nice shape. Send an offer if you want them
  • Final Fantasy Tactics Advance had a nice story book feel to it. Side question, is Threads of Fate worth checking out? I've never pulled the trigger and picked it up, for some reason or another. Let me know if I should!

Really any of these are good choices, plus a ton I probably forgot.
  • Nino Kuni is the best newer jrpg I have played. Very accessible, but also a good amount of depth. The heart quests get old after a bit, but the familiar selection and development is where it's at.
  • More of a Beat 'em Up with RPG elements, but definitely oozing with that storybook feel you describe would be Dragon's Crown. Awesome game for the PS3 and Vita.

Seriously, Pick this up. Especially if you like couch Co-Op.

  • what about child of light?
  • SaGa Frontier 2 seems like what you're looking for.

I loved this game. Finally someone else who knows what it is lol

The setting, characters, and even gameplay i thoroughly enjoyed.

It's even 2 players, i remember playing it with my crazy ex until like 5 am with an absurd amount of snacks and bottles of Jones'

  • Storybook feel? Never played either of those games but I'd give dragon quest 8, radiata stories, or any suikoden title a shot
