Wandering PSP Analog Stick

I've rebuilt a couple of PSPs in the last year or so, but only just recently tried to play them. I turned them on to make sure that they worked of course, but I failed to notice that on both of them the analog and directional buttons are off. Oops. The analog stick seems to be pushing toward the right. Additionally, the directional button, when pushed to the right seems to trigger some of the analog buttons. I have seen a number of posts elsewhere on the interwebs that ask about this problem, but very few if any end up with any answers (other than troll posts of course). One PSP was found in a bin of parts, but the other was last known working other than the broken screen. The repair that I did on each of these was screen replacement, by the way (one is a model 1000, the other a 2000). I took the 2000 apart again the other day and cleaned it rather well, and now it works worse . Any help or experience with this issue would be awesome. Thanks!

  • I have always had problems with these damn analog nubs! I don't know if there are just cheap replacement sticks floating around or what but I never have been able to get a repaired one to work! There is a hidden calibration option that is in the settings menu, and I forgot exactly how you do it (gonna have to look it up), but it's something like you can recalibrate the analog stick by rotating it around while you are on a certain screen - and it's not necessarily clear that you can do this. If you look it up and try it it may save you the work of opening the things back up.
  • Yeah, I've done the rotating calibration thing. It makes everything even more off for a bit, but then it settles back down to regular not working condition.
  • Is it an aftermarket faceplate? Sometime the faceplate can cause issues on the 1001 models. The 2001 could be a bad analog stick module.

I have worked on hundreds (not even exaggerating) of psps and sometimes albeit very rare the board is an issue.
  • Stock face plates unfortunately. I do need to get a new one for the 1001 though, so if you have any advice about reliable ones, let me know. The 2001 was last known to be working, but it could be the analog module. Who knows :/. Thanks for the input.
