    Volkmire can get bent

The first five levels are a cake walk for me now, and I'm getting to the point where I can beat the snake pit without dying. Then I have a lot of lives to burn on Volkmire's. Furthest I've gotten is the section right after the fireballs and missiles, where the barriers really start coming at you fast.

  • Played last night with 10 beers in me and made it to rat race as usual...............I didn't try to beat the third race though just kept trying to do the glitch.
  • The section after the missiles and fireballs is so fast that there is no time to react. As soon as I have to start moving up and down to get through the little openings, I'm dead.

I may have to use a warp to skip this level if my reflexes aren't up to it.

I don't think you can skip Volkmire's dude, for the gate section after those first 3 gates you just have to start in the middle then hold up right after then hold down until you hit the bottom.

  • Apparently you can warp to level 8 from level 6. I haven't tried it yet.

This is the first time in the game that I've felt compelled to use a warp.
  • Okay, I tried it for myself. For anyone who wants to pussy out of Volkmire's, there's an easily accessible warp on the second section of the snake pit that takes you right to "Intruder Excluder". Just leap off the first snake when it's at the height of its climb to the warp on the far right. I managed to do it on my first and second try.

Unfortunately there is no such thing as an easy Battletoads stage at this point, so "Intruder Excluder" is also very difficult.
  • As of last night - and a failed 3 hour attempt at the final boss in Ninja Gaiden - I'm back with Battletoads.

Make it all the way to Terra Tubes on my first game, too! It feels good to be back
  • A little tip with Robo Manus that helped me recently... Stay to the far left. Thats the one spot he will never jump on. Just gotta be patient, and wait for him to do a high jump where he bounces off the wall, ram him and then get back to the left. Doing this carefully and patiently will get you passed him without taking a hit.
  • The trick to "Intruder Excluder" seems to be keeping your weapon. You need it to destroy the globby things that stick to your head, the fans, and the poison gas blowing nipples. If you slip up and lose your weapon then the level becomes five times more difficult.
  • So I made it to Robo Manus twice this evening.

It's another thing in Battletoads that looks like it would be easy when watching someone else do it on Youtube, but is surprisingly difficult when you're doing it yourself. I guess you want to get to him with plenty of lives to spare.
  • Yes, keeping the weapon is the key to getting through that level quickly.

I'm getting further and further into Terra Tubes with each play

Patience is the key with him, you have no obligation to beat him quickly.

Also, this bullets are not hard to dodge whatsoever you simply just duck so just inch towards him and ram him as soon as he hits the ground.

Juggling him is very important to!
  • Admittedly, I've taken a hiatus from getting this done. Started messing around with Demon Sword and don't really have a clue what the hell is going on in that game lol. Time to get back to work on this
  • I made it to Terra Tubes today. Intruder Excluder is fairly easy until the boss (AS LONG AS YOU CAN HANG ON TO YOUR WEAPON). I made it to him with a bunch of lives and then blew through most of them. But at least I got to play the tubes for awhile. I got to the part with the gears chasing you before running out of continues.

Manus gets crazy easy the more you play him. As others have hinted, you can stay in the corner and remain unharmed the entire battle if you've got his pattern down.

Also, the gears in Terra Tubes are what caused my first snag in that level. You have NO IDEA where you're going the first couple times through
  • I think that what makes Robo-Manus so difficult is that as he gets faster, he's either jumping or he's shooting his gun. If you try to ram him as he's coming down from his jump, you risk getting squashed. If you try to attack him when he's on the ground, you get shot. You're forced to try to ram him after his big jumps as he's landing and it isn't that easy. Mess up your timing just a little and you're flattened. Good players make it look easy in Youtube videos when they're juggling him in the air. I haven't gotten the hang of it.

I hear you, dude. I've beaten him three times in the last couple days just by staying to the left. When he jumps close enough, dash in and ram him. You can get back to the left by dashing and ducking his bullets. I didn't get squashed once while staying to the left, and only lost lives due to foolishly not ducking his projectiles quick enough.

    Getting further in Terra Tubes!

Thanks, man. With that advice I didn't have as much trouble beating him this time. Just wait at the far left and attack when you can.

"Terra Tubes" seems insurmountable right now. I made it to the third gear. I haven't even reached the hard parts yet.

Threads like these, coupled with Bootsy's vids, are what's going to get all of us through this epic game

Welcome to Terra Tubes, dude. I feel like I'm still going to be here for a bit.
  • You're far braver than I am. I love the game but don't have the patience for it. Hehe.

The hardest part about Terra tubes is all the memorization. Once you learn the level, the actual platforming skill required I would say is slightly easier than Intruder Excluder.

"Intruder Excluder" has two different difficulties. If you can keep your weapon, you can methodically destroy the fans and poison gas nipples as you proceed, which makes the level considerably easier. Otherwise getting through some parts is almost a matter of luck.

I'd rather even do  "Terra Tubes" than deal with the later sections in "Volkmire's". Is there any stage that is worse than that one? I just use the warp because thus far it's the only stage that I hate, and where I feel that I hit a wall in terms of being able to complete it.

  • I think level 12 is the hardest of all, its like the "harder version" of intruder excluder turned up to 11.

And a lot of people think that "Terra Tubes", "Rat Race" or "Clinger Winger" is hardest, and you can't skip these. So it's going to be tough to even make it to level 12 with enough lives to practice it.

  • Terra Tubes was honestly pretty easy for me, I had a game over on it once and then came back and beat it on the next try, same with rat race... The first time I made it back I made it to the boss on multiple lives.

I have not tried since last week but I make it to rat race every time no problem, may give er a whirl this weekend.

Watching Youtube playthroughs of "Terra Tubes", it looks like you have to swim through some tight areas while avoiding spikes and other things. I'm not looking forward to that.

Yes that is easily the most difficult part, honestly though it isn't to bad just wait until the right moment to hit the shark and just go and take your time (kind of)

Once you are first trying dont't try and out run the sharks and make it through the spikes it does not work very well until you know the area.

  • Terra tube tips:

when fighting sharks, put your back to the wall and just keep punching in place until a shark swims into your fist. (this is SUPER helpful on the last shark, so that you can navigate the spikes without being chased)

When fighting robots, punch them to death, (ramming is kind of risky)

when fighting the rubber ducks... all of them can be avoided except the 3rd duck.
  • Damn Rat Race glitch ended my game!

Oddly enough, I can ace Intruder Excluder whether I've got the weapon or not. Even when I do have it, I've never once killed the fans or smoke blowers; I always jump past them with correct timing.

I'm getting further into Terra Tubes, and I agree with whomever said once you've got it memorized, it's like walking right through it. You never notice previous parts getting easier because you're so focused on what's coming next, lol. This level should be in the bag by Monday for me.
