I've only been into the 3 main. I'm pretty sure I played 3DO and Jaguar at some point briefly but it was so long ago (90s) that I don't really remember anything that stood out. I don't consider Xbox360 or XB1 because I prefer the Sony equivalents (PS3 and PS4) although I do own original Xbox.

Now there's systems I've played the LEAST but I wouldn't say I "never got into" them because I've given them a fair shot.

    Sega - Master System, Saturn

Nintendo - GB/GBC (they have about 10-15 games I enjoy), Wii U (might get one eventually)

    Sony - all handhelds

What games are you trying to play? I'd stick with 2D games if the graphics are bothering you that much.

    Games like:

    Astal (pure eye/ear candy)

    Shinobi Legions

    Tons of Fighters

    Tons of Shooters

    Elevator Action Returns (import)

I was the same way until about 5 years ago when I picked up a TG-16. Tons of great titles on it that still hold up.

  • The only Nintendo, Sega, Sony, or MS console I never got into was the Virtual Boy. Any console outside of those four companies I probably will never buy or be interested in. Although, as far as imports are concerned, lots of good stuff seems to be on Turbografx and the Wonderswan.
  • Somehow I've never yet physically played an MSX, Master System, Atari 7800, PSP Vita, XBox One, or CD-i.

I'm fairly certain I've played most of the other ones I'm not mentioning, such as MSX2 and Jaguar CD.
  • Out of the consoles I own, the only ones I've never gotten into are the Game Gear and PSP. I have small collections for both, but neither one has ever given me very much interest.

Other than that, the only consoles I never got into are the ones I don't own.

    Neo Geo AES

    Neo Geo CD

    CD-I

    PC Engine CD

Any many other super obscure consoles I don't care to list here.

I also don't own any current gen systems (home or portable) but I'm not listing them here since I have interest in nearly all of them (at least to a certain extent) but I'm in no rush to pay current prices for any of those systems.

    Yep

Only systems I would add are Xbox 360, XBone, and Wii U
  • I never got into:

    - Atari 2600 - Maybe just because it was before my time, but I just never understood the appeal. If I played a game on there, it wouldn't even last me 5 minutes. My dad used to own one, I've played one on emulators, but ultimately I just never liked the system.

    - Atari Jaguar - Oddly enough I wanted one really bad as a kid. It just looked very cool and futuristic. But as I got older, I forgot about it until about 6 years ago when I saw one at a Play N Trade and did some research on the system since I was seriously contemplating getting one, but after I learned how shitty it was I decided against it.

    - Sega Genesis - Only ever liked the Sonic games on here. My neighbor had one, my sister had one, a friend from my childhood had one, my best friend now has one, an ex I used to date had one, and even my fiancée has one now. Seems like everyone I knew had one, except for me. I just couldn't get into the games other than Sonic. I'm sure what it was either. I always wanted to like the Genesis, I acknowledge that it has a lot of good games but I just never had the drive to play it or collect for it.

    - Sega Dreamcast - Always wanted one, ever since it came out. Another system that just kind of fell off my radar for years until a few years ago. Last year I actually got the urge to buy one, and I did when I saw one for sale at Play N Trade but it didn't work and had to bring it back. Then again, over this past summer, I bought one online in mint condition for a relatively decent price, and separately bought about 10 games for it. I was so excited to hook it up and play it after I got it and waited for my stack of games. I finally hooked it up and .... I think it lasted me about an hour. I don't know what it is, maybe I built the system up in my mind for so long that I had unreasonable expectations for it, but I just didn't enjoy the system or many of the games. Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, Crazy Taxi, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Power Stone, Jet Grind Radio, Hydro Thunder... and a few others I can't remember, but once I got past that "ooh" and "ahh" factor, I was over the system. The desire was gone, sadly. But I guess it took having the system to see that it wasn't as great as I made it out to be. Oh well.

-PSP - I enjoy the PS systems and I never even thought about a PSP until Dissidia Final Fantasy came out. I was instantly hooked on that game when I bought it with my PSP. I played that for months on end. But then sadly, after I was done with the game, I searched through the library and nothing appealed to me. So I essentially bought a system for one game, something I said I'd never do. I tried a few more games like Crisis Core, LocoRoco, and Daxter, but ended up selling the system anyway and haven't missed it since.

    - Xbox 360 - Having a PS3 kind of made a 360 look pointless to own. Other than a few exclusives I didn't really care about and some OG Xbox backwards compatibility, there was no draw to it. I owned an OG Xbox and enjoyed it but ultimately sold it off since I barely played it. But Xbox 360 never appealed to me.

I've only tried Virtual Fighter, Soviet Strike and Thunder Strike. So I probably shouldn't have expected much from those anyway. I love Warcraft II and I'm looking forward to playing Power Slave. I will definitely give Astal a try, sounds awesome. Albert Odyssey looks really fun too! How about Resident Evil? I'm a huge fan of the series but I've never played it on Saturn. Is it comparable to PlayStation or is it pretty bad on Saturn?

  • TurboGrafx 16. It wasn't like I didn't want to get into it, but rather a system I could never find to get into it. (I love anything gaming) Where I'm from, it wasn't something well-known when it first came out, and I only remember 1 person who had one.

Buuuut, I am glad that I got one now.
  • Sega Master System. There are only a couple games I remotely enjoy playing on that system and I've had just about all of them through the years.

Sega Master System < Nintendo NES

There are some pretty noticable differences between them but I think the PS version is superior (especially the Director's Cut)

Powerslave is awesome! Make sure you have the 3D controller for that game. I also enjoy Albert Odyssey, MKR and other RPG's on the system, but they're super pricey. (actually like most good games on the system)

  • Never got into the Mega Drive, Neo Geo, TG-16 or Lynx. I've got a buddy who swears by the sheer awesome of the Lynx so that is one that I may get into at some point.

Lightly dabbled into the Jaguar and 32x. Not a fan of the 32x. Jaguar has a couple decent titles that I've enjoyed. Chiefly Alien vs Predator and Tempest 2000.
  • The obvious ones for me are Atari Jaguar and Virtual Boy. Bought both on super clearance at a Kay Bee toys back in the day and ended up selling them both at a yard sale less than a year later for pennies on the dollar.

I couldn't stand the virtual boy because of the usual headaches.

I couldn't stand the Jaguar because I only had a few games. Checkered Flag just felt sub-par, and Cybermorph was a bad Star Fox clone (and I never liked Starfox)...

More recently, the Wii. I had one at launch, though it was shared with a bunch of housemates. Once the group-play dynamic was no longer there (got my own place), I didn't enjoy it. I picked up another one at the time of New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Donkey Kong Country Returns. I just got tired of the motion controls and didn't care enough to find an alternative.

Finally, the Microvision. i found a shit-load of Microvision crap at a thrift store. I love older consoles, but I just couldn't enjoy this one. The fact that it was a handheld didn't help.
  • Game Gear

    Neo Geo

    Atari anything

    TG 16

not because any of these are bad, i just had other systems that had me preoccupied and limited funds as a kid.
  • The N64 is probably my least favorite that I've owned. I got bored of the games long before I could finish them. I eventually gave it away to a relative.

I bought the original XBOX for "Ninja Gaiden" and didn't find much else that I wanted to play. I sold it.
  • Sega Master System

    TurboGrafx16

    Neo Geo

    3DO

    CD-i

    Atari Jaguar

The only one I have actually owned was the TG-16 but I did not like it at "all" I need to get the Duo.
  • I could never, ever, get info N64. Just don't enjoy the games
  • Some consoles I didn't have the opportunity to properly experience during their respective lifespans (and why):

Intellivision (I had an Atari 2600 and Colecovision but have never played or knew anyone who had an Intellivision)

Sega Master System (I didn't even know this console existed until the mid-90's when I played it at a friend's house by pure chance)

Turbografx 16 (I wanted one from Toys R Us in 1990 while I was living in Phoenix but I had gotten the NES in '89 and a Game Boy earlier in the year, so my folks weren't having it...after that, I moved back to a region where the TG-16 wasn't being marketed, so I never even saw one again after that...or knew any friends that had one. There was a friend who got a Turbo Express for his birthday in 1992 which I got to play a couple of times, though even he only ever managed to get one game for it).

Sega Genesis (I actually had one...and a Sega CD...in the mid-90's but I suppose I was too preoccupied with the SNES to ever find any decent games for it as all I remember playing were Sonic games [meh] and a few other random titles like Ecco, Dynamite Headdy and Mortal Kombat. Today, I feel so sad that I didn't give the Genesis it's due because there are some really fantastic titles in its library that I never even knew about back then).

Sega Game Gear (Always thought the graphics and color screen were impressive but it was too expensive and had a reputation for horrible battery life)

Neo Geo (yeah...at that price point, I'm not surprised that not only did I never own one but, in fact, have still never met anyone who owned one)

3DO/Jaguar/CD-i (A friend's dad actually had a CD-i and a handful of games for it but I was never terribly impressed. As for the others...bullets dodged, thank goodness).

Virtual Boy (I played a demo unit at Kay Bee Toys once and thought the 3-D effect was neat but the all-red display and having to stare into the goggles to play just didn't do it for me)

Playstation (Again, played some demos on the display unit at Sears...but I was more interested in the N64 at the time, even though I wouldn't get an N64 until about 1998. Again, so sad I missed this one. Such an awesome library of games)
  • Nintendo 64(exceptions being Kirby 64 and maybe Mario Kart 64)

    Sega CD and 32X

Atari 2600(RF cords were the main issues)

Sega Saturn(Action Replay and the JPN Rockman games might drag me back)

    Original X-Box
  • I switched over to the PS1 during the 32-bit era when it came out that Final Fantasy 7 wasn't going to be in the N64. No regrets. The PS1 dominated that era and had loads of good stuff like Tekken, Twisted Metal and Resident Evil. The N64 had no RPGs, which was mostly what I was into at the time.

Even now there's not really any temptation to get an N64. Seems like most of what was put out for it was 3D Platformers, Racing games and first-person shooters. I'm not a huge fan of the first, suck at the second, and could take or leave the third. Nevrmind the bulky, awkward-looking controllers and the fact that games were typically $20 more than their Playstation counterparts.

Alright, I do regret that Final Fantasy 7 came nowhere close to the hype around it and FF8 was garbage. But other than that I think I made the right decision.
  • Anything Sega or Sony, Xbox, virtual boy , Atari, nes. I pretty much only played tg16 snes n64
  • Anything XBOX. I tried, but it just wasn't for me. Every other system at least has one game I really like that kind of got me interested in that system. Also, I never really got into Sega systems. Especially the Saturn. There are interesting games on other Sega systems, but still, I never really got into Sega collecting (Even though I own a few gems, such as my PAL Megadrive Probotector that I got by complete luck), and the Saturn is the best example regarding that. I only own one game for that system actually, which is Worms.

  • Besides all the obscure stuff mentioned the one that stands out is snes.

Now I played a handful of hands growing up but I haven't been able to find a game to get into as an adult on the system. I played DKC, Super Mario World, Yoshis Island as a kid but have never got into it past those titles...
  • 1.N64

    2.Anything Xbox

    3.Anything Atari

    4.CD-I

    5.3DO
  • Any console that came out after the PS2. That was the last "current gen" system that I really had any interest in.
  • I've enjoyed a great many of the consoles mentioned in here. I have sold off lots of them though, I'll list that instead.

Atari 2600 - Despite its primitive simplicity, it has some really fantastic games. I got out of 2600 because I wanted to downsize. Yes, the games were good, but I don't really miss them now.

Atari 5200 - Quite a bit more advanced than the 2600, had some great games and some very nice Atari 8-bit ports. The joysticks I had worked just fine, especially after cleaning. I got out because the console is way too big and I wanted to downsize the games I owned.

Atari 7800 - It had a few decent games, but not like the 2600 or 5200. I guess technically I never got into the 7800.

SMS - This is the one console I really couldn't get into, based on the USA library. Most of the games are horribly bland. Yes, it has good imports, but at the time I didn't want to import, so I got out of SMS.

TG16 - Virtually all of the good games are ridiculously expensive, even back in 2011. I did like it, but there was no Turbo Everdrive back then, so I got out. I've since gotten back in, with a White PCE, PCE Duo-R, Turbo Everdrive 2.4 and a pack of CD-Rs.

Game Gear - As far as the USA library goes, it's massively better than the SMS. I had my old Game Gear stuff for quite some time, but I got out of it because I wanted to downsize and figured I wouldn't miss it. I got back in this year with a nice LED-modded model that I traded for.

Saturn - Similar to the TG-16, I liked the few games I could find, but the ridiculous prices made the Saturn unappealing, that and I didn't care much for imports. I sold/traded away my old Saturn stuff. I got back in last year when a friend traded me a Saturn and pointed me towards a modchip. I've been enjoying Saturn ever since with my stack of CD-Rs.
