what games are you talking about?  I dont know any games that you would sit down and want to beat that are strenuous.

Any games that don't use the classic controller. Games like Mario Galaxy that only use the Wiimote and Nunchuk tend to make my wrists hurt after 2-3 hours and I hate that I have to take a break. Regular controllers? No problems ever. I'm not a doctor so I don't know if that's like CTS or what.

Do you really need to raise your arm and aim? The wiimote rests in my lap. Trust me I dont like the wiimote or the system overall, but its not anymore strenuous then holding a controller. Im different though, I dont want to play a game longer than a few hours. I take breaks for multiple reasons. When you play that long you kind of ruin the game and beat it to fast. Dont enjoy it as much imo. Also staring at screen that long just gives me a headache. I like stretching a game out a little. I also play a few games at once, and shake it up from time to time.

Why would you not want to take breaks? Playing that long cant be a good thing man. Need to take breaks.

What percentage of Nintendo Wii first party games gave you an alternate, non motion controll option? The first party games for the Wii are the ones people play mostly. Well let me correct that, there is a small selection of non-first party games that get some love, but not many. Yes there are many non-motion controll games on the WIi, and they were either shovelware or were released on the PS2 as well. Virtual Console games aren't even in the discussion. They are download versions of old games that never had the motion code, and they wont spend the time to update them. They offer the VC as a service, not the selling point of the system.

I think he clearly is talking about the wii u . not the original wii. If its not a party type game, splatoon which uses the gamepad as a touch map and shows progress, and mario maker, or kirbys rainbow curse, then you dont need the gamepad. Hell, on those games you want to use the pad. You can use the pro controller on just about anything and even the titles I mentioned nintendo has basically zero motion controls required on the wii u.
  • in my original post I was speaking about the Wii, Not the WiiU. I didn't clarify that, and maybe I should have been clearer.I did reread the post and see that he did have a u after the word Wii. Didn't see that when responding.

Well I don't mind if it has functionally that includes the old motion control+ technology. My only condition is it cant be REQUIRED for publishers/developers to use. If its an alternate control scheme or if a game was built around it that fine by me. Just don't want a game to be forced into it because its the "primary" control method. The WiiU pad is another example of something cool, but should be an optional device, not a required controller to make the system work.

This NX system will dictate to me my desire to further buy Nintendo console systems. I got burned on the Wii, and rarely play my WiiU ( I do like the system, hate the pad and has little support) so I'm not going to be blindly buying this new system at all like I did in the past 2. Just been burned too much recently by them. Their past is great, recent is disturbing, and I'm worried about the future.

yeah man sorry for the confusion i was responding to this, the original wii doesnt have a gamepad.   It is an optional device minus a handful of games.

    http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/165267-Nintendo-NX-New-Console-2016

Wow, I was expecting a fall/holiday launch but if they are ready to go earlier than that I would be surprised. Also 20 millions units for 2016, looks like they aim to hit the ground running.

The rumor (as being reported by Destructoid, NintendoLife and Kotaku) State that around 10-12M are planned as  being shipped for Distribution at the end of 2016. (again RUMOR)

I would love to see Nintendo play this card next year, After seeing their patent...

    http://www.polygon.com/2015/8/22/9190981/nintendo-nx-cartridges-patent

and with the Handheld And or VR Headset Rumors floating around I really am excited as ever to see what Nintendo has up their sleeve.

one of Miyamotos previous responses on the future for Mario has always stuck in my head when I think about the NX. I remmeber he said something about how He sees Mario as the Mascot that leads the Industry into new unexplored Teritory.

     I CANT WAIT!

  • It's cool if they come out in Q2 2016 but it's all about the games. Unless they have a huge pile of games hidden from us what exactly are we going to play on the NX in middle 2016.

I was on board with wii u day 1 and I remember that drought of games during the first year and it was bad. They would probably be better off waiting until Q4 2016 and start with a good launch lineup.

Rumors have been that one of the first launch titles for the Next is a Metroid game. Which kinda supports the rumor that the NX may be a Virtual Reality Console Concept.

Metroid would be super nice as a launch game and it's pretty obvious that Zelda would be on NX as well if it comes out next year.  I have had a lot of fun with my wii u my wife plays mario kart all the time so I will be on board.  I understand why nintendo would want to cut their losses with the wii u seeing as it is not selling as it should.  Wii u is a pretty good system and years from now I can see it being a saturn like system that people love to play.

You make a good point, I too can  see the Wii U as a Saturn type console. (I still like to go back and play Virtua Cop and Astal from time to time)

I personally hope that the NX is an All-In-One Portable/Dockable Console so that they can finally focus all of their teams in an effort that supplys a single Platform with a Ridiculous amount of AAA Software!

But this may proove too costly to fund the Demanding technology required to produce that Powerful of a Handheld Device to even be considered upto par with the Xbox One or PS4

    (Maybe Next, Next gen?)

    Still can hope and Dream!

Well Son, that's what Nintendo is pretending to be a kick ass, 500 MHz cpu system with ramon memory. It will be cutting edge, and blow the playstation out of the water.

I was jsut thinking this exact same thing.  They fooled me once with hype and I am not gonna fall for it again.  I am still waiting for the arcade perfect port of Killer Instinct for the Nintendo Ultra 64.

Curious? Rumors are also circling that The NX may also be released within the first half of 2016!

We havent had a Powerful Nintendo Console of this calibur (During a competitive Console Generation) Since the Gamecube!

I know they are just rumors so they should be taken likely, but I read it would be towards the end of 2016. It would make more sense to release it during the holidays.

Even "Q4 2016" isn't enough time to develop a quality current-gen game if dev kits are shipping in Q4 of 2015.

I guess they're going to be all 1st party games at launch, and evidently all stuff they've managed to keep completely secret...

Guess we will have to wait until 2016 to see what Nintendo has up their sleeve

Im just glad that they are going to be trying something Completely new and not trying to jump back on the Wii's back.

"I can assure you we're not building the next version of Wii or Wii U," he told Time. "[NX] is something unique and different. It's something where we have to move away from those platforms in order to make it something that will appeal."

    Tatsumi Kimishima,

im still going to be praying for a Handheld / Console Hybrid
  • I actually have had plenty of fun with the Wii U since I bought it on Day 1. It's been a great console and is still a great console. I look forward to seeing what Nintendo produces in the next year.

I always thought it would be so cool if they made the 3DS compatible with the Wii U as an alternate gamepad, or to give the ability to play 3DS games on the TV.

It is really surpsising that they never did implement any kind of DS/3DS player like the Gamecube and Super Gameboy. I remmeber it was even brought up an the Investors meeting a year or two ago. Still nothing

Hah found the Article, it was back in 2012!

Nintendo toyed with that concept in SSB Wii U, where you can link a 3DS as an alternate controller.

I did not know you could do that. Cool

  • Holy crap you guys are really falling for all that? A console so powerful the dev kits or whatever can't Keep up with a high end PC? LOL
  • Could it be. . That Nintendo went into full monk mode. Rehashed the wii in the form of a wii u. Sitting on the massive pile of cash the wii brought it only to take off this 'current gen' in the wii u to shock the industry by releasing an late contender to the PS4/XB1? Probably not right?
  • I personally am going to be shocked if this thing comes out in 2016, I just don't see how that is possible. I would bet these are all click bait rumors but I guess we will find out. Like arch said with dev kits going out just recently unless they are putting jeopardy or maybe hangman as a launch title I just cant believe it.

I think if there is a mircacle it is ready by novemember/December 2016 for holiday season
  • Id be very cautious buying a console at launch if it came out next year. Feels rushed and bound to be an issue. Wii u had power and red blinking issues at launch after a few months. I waited till the zelda release bundle and havent had a problem yet... Knock on wood.
  • Gaming websites are reporting today that Nintendo filed a patent for a video game system that uses a cloud based device for supplemental processing power. There's no proof that the patent will be applied to the NX console, but I wouldn't be surprised if the patent is intended for the NX console.
