Brawl Brothers is fairly underrated IMHO. I quite like it! Also, the JP version is better I think as in the US version they turned one of the early stages (I think stage 2?) into this gawd damn maze that would repeat if you chose the wrong exits. It was stupid and completely unnecessary. The JP version that level is straight forward and you can't get lost.
So that's why I went through that stage with ease today!
I wasn't too happy when I first tried it the other day because of that very stage, but today while playing the JP version I went through it in no time and thought that maybe I messed something up initially the other day since neither time I was paying too much attention.
So glad I got the Japanese version then
Yup, my bro and I played BB together a few years ago for the first time in like 18 years... and that stage pissed the hell out of us, lol. Interestingly enough, the US version has a code to turn it into the JP version which then makes that level "normal." Have you ever heard of a code like that before... it's like the programmers knew it was a bad call but went ahead with it anyway but at least had enough decency to allow for a code to bypass all their BS.
Also, if you don't enable the JP code another way out is simply to read a FAQ and record the right routes. It's a bit of a hassle but nothing 3 minutes can't solve. Then you take the right exits and you play through that level as if it were normal.
Not enough to damage/break/cripple the game, but enough to make a note of.
A few SFC beat 'em ups I have that I don't think have been mentioned yet:
Sailor Moon (first SM game released on the SFC is a beat 'em up, and I think one of the others might be as well)
U.F.O. Kamen Yakisoban - a very weird game that was a tie-in with some brand of instant noodles sold in Japan. Actually surprisingly fun although annoyingly is one-player only.
Cosmo Police Galivan II - sequel to a (non-beat 'em up) Famicom title.
