Pretty much any console released after 2000 or so. Wii/Xbox360/Ps3 and beyond is where gaming really went into the toilet when they started to cater to the mass casual audience.
Sega Master System, Just recently picked one up 2-3 months ago and I cannot for the life of me find that "ONE" Game that will keep me interested. Ive heard from a friend for years that its even "BETTER" Than the NES. And the ports are even better...
I bought almost a Dozen games and I just dont see it
I remember having loads of fun on my game gear But the SMS I just cant get into
I've got a buddy who swears by the sheer awesome of the Lynx so that is one that I may get into at some point.
Speaking of underrated systems...
Everyone talks about the Dreamcast as THE underrated system, but I think the Atari Lynx is right up there as well. For 1989 technology, it is an awesome piece of hardware. Though the library is small compared to Gameboy, there is a high percentage of quality titles on the Lynx. I highly recommend the system, and last I checked, they don't seem to go for too much, and you still find brand new, sealed games on Amazon or eBay for pretty cheap.
In my opinion, the best version of STUN Runner is on the Lynx, and that even beats out the emulated version on the Xbox 360.
I had trouble getting into the Sega Master System when I first got mine. Beside Outrun, I had no interest with games I got for it when I got it at a Flea Market and I didn't not like the controller. I latter got some better games to enjoy like Shinobi, Phantasy Star, Montazuma's Revenge, Kenseiden, Wonder Boys (III is may favorite SMS game), and great light gun games and not to forget European only releases like Danan, Master of Darkness, and the Sonics. Still trying to get a copy of Golden Axe Warrior to be satisfied with my collection.

The problem I have with SMS is a good portion of the lib are arcade ports. So many of them have better ports on other systems or if you have it, you can just play on mame, meaning the system didn't age all that well.

My problem is how zoomed in the screen is in more games. Hardware wise, except for the whole size issue + poor quality paint on the surfboard models, the only issue I have with the Lynx is screen res, and for the time, I can not fault them for that. However, the game programmers didn't take this limitation into account for most games:
Here's rampage in the arcade vs Lynx:
On the Lynx, George is about 17.5% of the horziontal res, while on the arcade, he's about 8% And vertical, huge change there
The screen is very low-res, but they wanted to add huge sprites to show off the power of the system (Which in many ways was better than even the nomad and express. Not in ALL ways mind you, but some). But I think some people over-estimate how good the games are, in that thread a guy stated Ninja Gaiden was amazing...
Amazing is a streach even for it's time (it does look better on the screen though than screen shot I think) It plays slooooow, jumps take forever, and it's a beat em up, with what sounds like tetris playing in the background. It's nothing like what most people would expect if they played the nes or sega games, but other than the speed issues, it's not a bad game. And the arcade wasn't a speed demon itself actually... or as well licked as the nes version. As far as I can remember this is the only legit port of the arcade game too, all others were rehashes. The lynx is pretty legit, at least for the first stage, second stage it turns into a new game But when this lynx game was released (I'm seeing 1991 release date, not the 90 in the title screen) it was a year before gamegear streets of rage:
The gamegear isn't bad on how many foes you have on screen at once, but look at the Lynx, fuck, blows away the early snes fighters even. And the animation on the Lynx is great when the guys pull themselves up. But streets was a lot smoother and faster

And there are ports of other games that might be impressive for an 8-bit system, but you're much better off playing the Sega Genesis versions.
But it might be worth getting a SMS for the original "Phantasy Star" if you're an RPG fan. I've only played the sequels on the Genesis.
Saturn!! As a kid I never wanted one because the graphics were terrible. I recently got another Saturn and I'm trying to play some of the games I have for it but it's still just awful! The Genesis looked better than the Saturn does, it's just so choppy and clunky.
I'm with you on that for the most part. The only games I think are worth playing on the Saturn are the Shining series of RPGs... and maybe some shooters. Most of the rest of the library hasn't aged terribly well.

Just as bad as the arcade ports are the sport games. The person who was titling the games like "Great Baseball" or "Great Football" must have been Joe Izusi.

Don't forget 2D fighting games. They may not be everyone's cup of tea, but you can't argue that the Saturn didn't have a ton of great 2D fighters.
I feel bad, but I'm not interested in most pre-NES systems. I have fond memories of the 2600 from childhood, and some Colecovision stuff is cool, but otherwise I'm kinda over anything pre-Famicom.
Also, most early PCs. Even as a diehard PC gamer, every time I try to get into Amiga or C64 games, they just don't stick with me and I just can't explain why.

The problem with the 2D fighters is the same issue as SMS I mentioned above, they're ports of arcade games, and now there's better ways to play. I might be more intrested if I didn't own a mame cab, but since I do, the capcom and snk fighters are much nicer on it than on the saturn. So I'm stuck with Astra Superstars (Not sure if STV emulation has improved, but my cab can't play it), Asuka 120% (Never played; I wonder if it's diffrent from the PC-Engine), and umm.... Golden Axe. Plus it has the saturn version of street fighter the movie.
While they're not all that great, I prefer the 3D fighters on saturn just because the 2D ones play better elsewhere. I used to run the dos version of Last Bronx on my cab though, but it stopped working a while ago and I never did try to fix it.

Great post! Sorry it took me so long to resond. Glad to see another person appreciates what the Lynx did at the time (1989 release). Like I said, STUN Runner on the Lynx is amazing, and Road Blasters is very good as well. I have played Rampart and Xenophone on the Lynx as well, and they are pretty good ports, though Xenophobe is a little unwieldy.
I remember hearing Rampage being 4 player back in the day and thought that was amazing, but then I saw how zoomed in the game was and thought they made a mis-step there. But overall, I actually prefer my Lynx to my GameBoy Pocket!
