Fighters Destiny Mexican Version

Hey all,

I was recently on a retro video game gameshow and won a sealed copy of Fighter's Destiny for the N64.  I was told the copy was donated to the host by a local flea market reseller and when I got the item I found out why.  The box is sealed and immaculate, but the back of the box is in Spanish.  The box says it is the NTSC North American release in English on the front, but the writing on the back is in Spanish.  I am thinking this must have been the official Mexican release?  Anyway, I have done many searches on this through ebay and google, but can't find any details on a specific Mexican version of this game.  Any searches for "spanish version" just bring up the PAL Spain release.  Does anyone know what this may be worth?  I am debating opening the thing and keeping it since it is just a fighting game anyway and story won't matter that much.  I don't collect sealed or boxed Nintendo games as they don't add any value for me personally, but I'm just curious if it would be more worth my while to sell it or keep it.  Many thanks in advance to the community.

  • If you're just looking to play it and don't collect CIB/sealed games, I would probably recommend you sell it.

I can't find any info about the Spanish text NTSC version either, but if I had to guess, I'd probably value it around $50 sealed, based on what English sealed NTSC copies seem to be going for. If you list the sealed one on Ebay and no one buys it, you can always open it later and you've lost nothing. If it does sell, you can get a cart only copy to play for under $10, you made some profit, and some person got a sealed copy at a decent price. Just make sure you note the Spanish text on the box if/when you list it.

By the way, what's a retro game gameshow? Is it a Youtube thing?
  • Thanks for the reply Obscurity.  I'll have to get some pictures of the game up to give people something to go off of.  The gameshow I was on is an internet show.  You can see it at http://www.retrogaminggameshow.com    The guy in charge put together a website and will be putting the show on youtube as well.  There are only two episodes up so far, but it is pretty cool.  He still has to edit and upload the episode I was on.  It's very raw right now, but the project definitely has a lot of potential moving forward.
  • I couldn't get the videos to play from the website. Dunno if that's something with the site or my browser, but found them on Youtube.

You're right that it definitely needs a lot of polish, but I can see potential. It successfully took 40 minutes of my day. If it gets a little more popular, he should hit those local breweries up for a few sponsorship bucks. Then use that to buy slightly better prizes, like CIB games that don't look beat up.

I thought the host was sitting down through the whole first round of Ep 1, then laughed out loud when he explained that those contestants are just really tall.
  • Can you post pictures, I would love to see this variant.
