So, I want to remind you all of a little tech demo that Sony had in 2005. It was a redone version of the first scene from FFVII. I remember this because I was excited. It looked like they might remake the game. It was so exciting.
Ten years later, after that seed of hope has matured and grown they come around to harvest it. To make good on that little idea they put in our heads so long ago. Brilliant psychological tactic. This is what squareenix does. They make you want something and then make you wait and hope and after the hope is dead they throw something like this at you to reinvigorate that passion. To relight the fire! To excite you so much you buy the thing and hype the thing because zomg it's happening.
And you know what? Fuck them for that. The more I think about all of it the more angry I get. I think all of us should be.
Why should we accept that a company is a money grabbing sack of crap? They don't have to be. Plenty of companies stay profitable and don't do this crap. They don't jam microtransactions and dlc and preorders and the like in your face. Stop accepting this as a thing companies do. All this acceptance just allows it to continue happening.
Oh, but there is one evil way they force to accept it, isn't there? They tell us a game's sales and profitability determine if more are made. A beloved IP can die if you don't buy a crappy or mediocre game.
I hear what you are saying, but saying its insulting is silly. The gaming industry nowadays is about making as much money as possible, bottom line. The sooner you realize that the more enjoyable it will be for you. This isn't the 80s anymore. I know we like to think they owe us something because of our emotional attatchment to IPs, but they really don't.
Do I wish it was the exact same game only better? Of course.
But it just isn't going to please everyone.
I enjoy it just fine, I just don't support dumb marketing strategies and I wish others wouldn't either so it would stop.
Its actually a great marketing strategy, just one you disagree with.

Yeah, I get that, bragging about money not being an issue and calling yourself wonderful! Stand up guy right here!

Just realized, we are "bad mouthing" Square for doing what Nintendo has done for Mario for the past 30 years...
In what way? The main knock on Nintendo is that they make the same sort of games using the same old characters over and over, but I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing. I think most of my complaints center around the AAA BS that Square Enix is doing and is going to do with this game. For me, their transgressions are similar to what EA, Ubisoft, and Activision tend to do.
I'm disappointed with the whole damn thing. I wanted the exact same game with updated graphics and cut-scenes but what they are making is totally different and they should stop calling it a remake.
I think naming it remake is a good choice. This is not remastered version, but a remake which means a bit more changes than just remastering the graphics and sounds etc... Other than that, I think they have lost it somewhere in the development and got a bit too carried away of what can and should be done to classic titles...
Edit: Or just greedy...
I see what you're saying and yes, liberties can be taken on remakes, but this game has drifted so far from the original game that I would call it just as much a spin-off as Dirge of Cerebrus.
i phrased the whole thing about money poorly. I should have said, if something costs 60$ and gives me 20+ hours of entertainment, its worth it for me to spend that amount.
Remains to be seen how much other stuff featuring Cloud pops up, as they realize it is Squares biggest thing (like showing up in Super Smash Bros etc). Well, there is still lot to be used and recycled in FFVII realm as well.

I agree, money as never stood in the way of me getting a fun game!

I'm not sure about that stance in this particular situation. If I spend $60 on concert tickets, it's not going to matter how long the concert is: what matters is how good it is and if it lives up to the expectations set by similar experiences.
That is, however, a good way to look at spending money on video games on the whole, as they do tend to give "more bang for your buck" than other forms of entertainment.
Just realized, we are "bad mouthing" Square for doing what Nintendo has done for Mario for the past 30 years...
I would beg to differ, FFVII is a really emotional experience for some people that goes deep within their minds like myself.
This is a story about loss, love, life and many other things that we are destined to have to eventually deal with although we do not want to accept it no matter how shitty it is.
This is why people are very pissed that they are abusing this title in particular, this is more than just a game to some people. I know this sounds like it is extreme but to me it is not and I know a lot of people feel this way about it.
I think the game should have been left alone to be honest, it is already perfect.
Mario is a fun little platformer... this game/series has "much" more depth and things to take into consideration when doing a project like this.
I.....assume.....this won't happen...but have they confirmed that they will release every part eventually? It might seem funny to say....but it's happened before. Doing it this way doesn't even necessarily mean they ever even have to finish the series lol. By releasing it by episode it gives them the opportunity to bail on the project if it doesn't sell as well as they hoped. I know this scenario is unlikely, but this really just sucks in so many ways. I know multiple people that only bought the PS4 for this game who are going to be infuriated.
So many things look bleak but if its episodic then the xbox/pc players should hopefully get to swallow more content by the time it comes around to them, then the piece by piece of PlayStation
that video omg, I was crying by then end! On the one hand though, if it is episodic, it could be a good thing. Remember what happened with ffxiv. They could release the first episode and it could fail miserably because the changes they made were absolute garbage. It'd at least give them the opportunity to be like "sorry about that" and then redo it for the other episodes ><. Not that they would do such a thing, but a fella can dream haha
This is the problem with remakes. The new kids don't care about the old property and aren't interested, and the original fans will never be happy. I think fan remakes, like those Sierra Online remakes from a few years back, are the only things that seem to work out OK. You know, the ones where no one is trying to turn a profit.
If the remake just looked like this with an updated combat system I'd totally be satisfied. (I know this is a PC mod)
This is exactly what they needed to do.....do they not think that would sell well? People would eat that shit up like crazy.
have you seen how big FF7 is? it would be insanely difficult to do that with modern day graphics in a reasonable time frame. not to mention, theres opportunity to clarify certain things.
So... I admit missing this one the first time around and have always wanted to play it. Should I suffer through the blocky polygons or just play this remake when it does release?

I still enjoy playing the original bad graphics and all. It's a great game and a lot of fun. At least you can play through without waiting on them to release the next installment, I was really looking forward to the re=make until I heard it was episodic.
