  • Crazy find Forte. I too would like to see some higher resolution images when possible. At this point, I think you should make a website dedicated to your collection with the history of your variants, a database of your items, missing pieces, and a whole bunch of highres shots. Yours collection just keeps getting more and more out of control.

Honestly, you would of had a hard time selling it for what it's worth. It's an extremely rare piece but it only has value to a few hardcore collectors worldwide. Finding a buyer willing to pay top dollar for it would have been a very difficult and time consuming ordeal. Forte is probably the best person this could have ended up with. I'm sure Forte and the community would be appreciative of any information you can give about the game though.
  • This is pretty incredible. Congrats Forte!
  • I know I am not the only one thinking this but how much do you think this badboy is worth?
  • Amazing! So we have several single carts, two manuals that I know of and now the sealed one.

Canadian friends start digging, someone out there must have a box for this. I want to see the code on the tabs.
  • Congrats. Thanks for sharing.
  • That's awesome! I've never seen this variant. I've only ever seen the one with the full box art, no purple borders.
  • most epic find
  • Awesome find. Speaking of the cart variant, I found someone in Brazil selling the cart variant in a Brazil only marketplace.

I was considering trying to talk to the seller and see if he would ship to US but I think it will be too much of a hassle. Thank me later to whoever tries to get this somehow, heehee

It's not like it sold for $5 either. Having said that, I'm really not sure what 'top dollar' would be for such a strange variant. I was also scratching my head as to why it sold so fast becasue SS is one of the few people I follow on eBay and I saw it was gone pretty quick. I know of the variant and didn't even clue in until this thread popped up.
  • How much did it sell for, may I ask? I imagine even if the game was not the rare variant, it would still sell for a nice amount as a sealed Mega Man game.

The thing I have learned long ago is that rarity does not equate to price, and people should never think that it does. I have pieces in my collection that I have *never* seen outside of my copy, but if I were to sell it now, it would never sell for over $50 tops. It all just depends on finding a buyer that is willing to pay the price, and I can think of no better candidate than Forte. So to the seller, if you made a pretty penny, don't kick yourself of lose sleep over it, and just be glad that you even got a sale.

I don't know man, I am a mid level variant collector,  I really only collect the variants of the big dog franchises that I love.  I have all of the variant Zeldas/Marios/Metroids etc on the NES and now that I've found out about this guy it's certainly my #1 variant want since I, like many other love MM.  That being said I don't plan on ever dropping fatty cash on it cart only or CIB but my interest is through the roof and if I Ever find it cart only under $100 I'm all over it.  Mega Man is "so hot right now" and the whole series on NES has really blown up with people trying to obtain all 6 original NES titles.  I think this variant is just seeing the floor and it's really going to blow up over the coming years.  Not to build the hype...but I think the hype is reals.

EDIT:  I think the fact that the variant is that the box/label carries the same purple Capcom theme makes it Very desireable.  To have all of your MM boxes or carts, minus MM1, with that same purple outline would be rad...maybe thats a bit of OCD talking.

Well, this game literally doesn't even exist as a confirmed CIB at this point.  We went from cart only confirmed, to manual confirmed, and now sealed confirmed.  There aren't any opened copies out there to buy, at least not yet.

Also I'm not sure about this variant seeing it's floor.  First to market = highest prices since literally anyone who wants it would have to fight over it.  Depending on the speed at which more successive copies are found, price would be more likely to level off or taper down.

Well, that raises the question of how much would someone be willing to pay for this? I guess my main point was more that he didn't sell it for nothing even if it was potentilly a lot less than the actual value. For example I wouldn't compare this to the guy who sold SE for $120 thinking it was the PAL version.

I also agree with benladesh that only a select few would be after this, one of them being who actually bought it. Who knows though... I see people drop crazy amounts of money on one off items like this because it's really important to them and their collection. Would Forte have jumped on this if it was listed for $1500 or something? there is no question that it gives a premium to an already desireable item but how much of a premium? I'm not a variant collector so to me the premium would be relatively low compared to others.

Does this count as the variant or was it the first release and the other version printed later?

    Counts as first print

    We all own the variant/reprint

That's what I thought, but everyone keeps calling it the variant. It's even in the title! lol

  • Where did the seller get it from? We still can't rule out that this was never sold in stores, can we?
  • So this is basically the NES version of the Final Fight Guy black box.  Neither of these games really make sense and shouldn't even exist.
  • Very cool man, i hope it ends up being worth thousands for you.
  • This is awesome, congrats!
  • Wow, thanks for all of the support everyone I never thought I'd be able to find one of these, so I am so glad I did. StarShooter, I didn't know you were a NA member when I bought from you on eBay! I've already gotten a few offers to buy this, but you can rest assured it will stay in my hands regardless of the offer. Like I said, I don't know if this is going to be considered a "grail" like SE or not, but if it is, it'll have to stay an unobtainable one (unless someone finds a case of these somewhere). It's odd that this is the only one to ever appear, but I wouldn't count out more being out there. I just don't plan on being the first to set the price for it since it will be the "jewel" of my collection (replacing my sealed Mega Man 2 LCD Watch blister pack).

While I do want to provide the scans, I've been thinking about the risk of this being "reproduced" so i might watermark the scans to be on the safe side, but the will come at some point. I know this is an exciting find for everyone so I will do my best to share what I can! And yes, I am aware this is not a variant, hence the quotes in the title All the other Mega Man 6s out there are the variants. That's pretty cool to think about (unless you're a full NES set collector!)
  • Congrats on the pick-up! Good stuff
  • Great find!

Thanks for share Forte, this is a great and very rare item.

Here´s the eBay article for the curious: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Megaman-6-Nintendo-Entertainment-System-NES-Rare-Factory-Sealed-/181942441110?hash=item2a5c9d5496:g:IIwAAOSwbdpWVhBQ
  • This is probably one of the neater finds I've seen in a while. I'm not a mega man fan (only because it's always been hard to me) but I do like the gameplay, the design of the labels and this one just looks better than the reprint. I guess because it matches.
  • This truly is amazing, but...I just feel absolutely terrible about StarShooter

on the other hand I'm very happy a true MegaMan fan got this game
  • So glad to see that the box looks just like it should.

Now I just need to find a cart and box for my manual. Lol
  • Is the UPC code on the back the same as the Nintendo version?
