Mega Man 4 pre-sale sample cart

Hi guys!

I'm a Nintendo collector from Finland, and I've got this cartridge that I would like to get some more info on.

It's a pre-sale sample cart for Mega Man 4 on the NES.

It's the NTSC version, and as far as I know, the game is the same version as the retail cart. It's not a prototype.

The previous owner had bought it along with a bunch of other NES games from a video rental store in Finland nearly 20 years ago.

The words "FUN FUN" on the label might refer to Planet Fun Fun, which used to be an indoors amusement park here in Finland, because the owner was also involved in the video game import business at the time (early to mid 90s).

I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this and if it could be rare/valuable. Thanks!

  • You need to open the case up and get pictures of the board, the label looks like a Proto but I could certainly be wrong on that. Needless it's a cool find regardless of value
  • Here's the board. Looks like a retail cart to me.
  • When you play the game are their any noticeable differences? I wouldn't think the price difference would be huge but people do go a bit crazy for Mega Man so you may be able to get a premium for it.

Though I don't know much about demo/sample carts and stuff. I will leave it to the more knowledgable peeps!
  • No noticeable differences. I'm pretty sure it's the normal retail version of the game.
  • Love the "Fun Fun" on the front. Pretty cool man
  • It looks like there is flux on the pins, which at the least shows that it wasn't simply swapped out of a retail cart, it was hand soldered by someone. The mask ROM seems to be the same as the release version.
