Super Joy 3 Mod help

I picked up a Super Joy 3 Famiclone (one of those N64 controller shaped famiclones) that came with a multi-cart pcb inside the famicom connector on the back. After doing some extensive testing, i found that the one i got is one of the finest famiclones I have ever used. It worked perfectly fine with every game I threw at it, even ones like Castlevania 3 and Battletoads (gauntlet didn't work, but that is probably because of my adapter, not the famiclone). the only issues i have with it is the audio is a bit fuzzy, it doesn't have expansion audio, and THE DESIGN OF THE DAMN THING SUCKS! Seriously, who the f**k thought it was a good idea to make the cartridge port so damn looseto where the cartridge can still wiggle and cause an immediate crash?! Anyeays, my solution to the audio issues would be to connect a 1K Ohm resistor to the audio port, which would in turn fix the fuzzy audio and probably connect the audio out port to the famicom cartridge slot that outputs expansion audio. As for the design issue, I am thinking of wiring a DB-9 port I salvaged from a dead famiclone awhile back and connecting it to Player 1's traces on the board and just have the console flipped upside down so the cartridges are actually facing upwards, but I can't seem to find any guides for how to do that. Does anyone have any ideas on how I go about doing it?

  • Okay, I looked into how to do expansion audio mods and it seems the closest I can find is using 2 10k Ohm resistors and connect it to Pins 45 and 46, and connect one of the 10k Ohm resistors to the audio port. In theory, this should in turn restore expansion audio to the Super Joy 3. To test, I have a Lagrange Point and a repro of Akumajou Densetsu in English (thanks ol2 ), so I will be making a trip to RadioShack and buying parts. I will keep you guys updated on what happens
  • well, i managed to clean the audio. However, both the controller and expansion audio mods have failed. Pins 45 and 46 are connected though on the controller port, so i wonder if i have to cut that for it to work :/
  • I have had no luck in modding this. It's a shame because I really wanted to mod it and put it on an NES cartridge like many others do. Guess it just wasn't meant to be
  • what didn't work with the controller? seems like you could do a button trace mod if just disconnecting the existing button ribbon cable didn't work
