Oooooh, so there's multiple Easter Eggs! I gotta go plug it in when I get the chance...

Hmmm, I did the second controller trick looking for the easter egg and I got nothing (didn't try a zapper). I must have done something wrong. Well, back to Study Hall with 2 controllers. I'll be back in a bit.

Well, that's handy! Nice to know Kahn.
  • Oh, what the hey. I might as well post here too. Game (well at least challenge mode) is officially broken now...

  • Figured out the easter egg. certain conditions need to be right, then when they are, the rest of it depends 100% on luck. Due to those conditions, it is NOT obtainable on the first stage of the game, and it does NOT require finishing the game in any way.

  • Just placed my order. Can't wait to get this bad boy in

Is that an emulator? How did you dump the game? I have a CopyNES installed and couldn't figure it out. Also how do we know you didn't input something into the FCEU debugger to access that screen? I see what looks like hex code in the background. Cool anyways. At least we have confirmation the Easter Egg exists. Obviously you're not gonna tell me but it won't hurt to ask anyway: what did you do to get this page?

Actually this is a blessing in disguise. If/when Khan sends you a "present", and if the "present" turns out to be a game, you'll be able to "dump" it for us...
  • I haven't played too many, but this is the best homebrew game that I have played on the nes, and certainly better than a bulk of games back in the day.

If there is ever a second game, here is are my small quibbles about this one.

The plane bomb drop, on one of the stages like 13 or 14 it can drop right at the start and there is now way to avoid death.

On one of the mid stages, there is a cannon that changes positions, and sometimes it can spawn in a perfect spot when you're descending and give you unavoidable death.

The opposing players can sometimes sit on the door or key and not move significantly from that spot causing time to run out.

Music is awesome, but then isn't in the main part of the game, that sorta makes it worse.

I did in fact work backwards.  Figured out that if memory location 0x0002 is written with 0x1C, the easter egg screen is triggered.  Once I figured that out, I looked for the code that triggers that, and looked to see what memory variables need to set, and how to get there.  After that, I set a breakpoint on that code, then simply did everything I could in normal play, to try and get that breakpoint to trigger.

And no, no actual rom dump, just the demo version.  The easter egg is obtainable in the stock demo rom. (I cracked the demo with a few game genie code lines,  In order to make the game fully playable, in order to hunt down the easter egg.  (100% of the code of the full game was included in the demo, just with a few code line additions to lock it down.))

As such, the easter egg is fair game for absolutely everyone, game owner or not.

(I will give one hint.  Play as the girl.  It is that reason alone that the easter egg is NOT obtainable on the first stage.  Finally, after switching to the girl and playing through a stage, don't be tardy, or you will switch back to the boy.  (You can only switch genders once per transition.))

    -----

As for a rom dump, the emulators are going to have to implement another proper mapper for this carts hardware. (Needs to be able to emulate flash saving, along with a few other things the cart hardware is capable of. (flash saving is the only thing this cart uses))

    -----

One last detail.  Don't let the game run on the title/high score screen for extended periods.  Based on what I have seen in the code, each time the high score screen is displayed, the game calls the functions to write the high scores, and achievements to flash.  Each of thoes calls burns one of the limited erase/write cycles.  Most flash chips are rated for 100,000 cycles.  Running the title/high score loop 24/7 for 49 days will burn though all 100,000 of those cycles.  (Now, manufacturers say 100,000 as a conservative number, but is that a chance you wish to take?)

If you wish to listen to the music, go over to the 80's Radio option.

No one who finds the easter egg through a hex editor will win any prize from me.

New lead. Let's get crackin', folks!

I'm not disqualified, am I? After all, I'm not the one who hacked it.
  • ^^^ Wow, what a cheap way to exploit Kevin's hard work. Classy.
  • I suppose I should leave this here.

  • Interesting. I asked him about this not too long ago, as I got it to pop up, albeit not the right way (I found a glitch).

    Make sure to email him!
  • "Sledgehammer" sounds totally bad ass in NES form.

Yeah, Study Hall soundtrack is some of my favorites.

  • Whoo-hoo, someone found the Easter Egg! Mind if I ask you you did it?
  • JamesRobot is officially the only person to find the easter egg without somehow glitching the game. Congratulations.

    Present incoming.

stardust: It had to do with answering a specific incorrect answer on a pop quiz in a certain instance when a certain sex.
  • Awe man! That was it!? I even found secret poles to climb! And all I had to do was not answer correctly. Well, at least it was found by a cool dude .

I thought it would be clever, because most of those questions are so easy, no one would even think about answering incorrectly.

    Or so I thought!

That's very clever, IMO, in a points based game where people aren't trying to "explore the dialog tree".

EDIT: though Tom/rdrunner never finding it should have been a HUGE clue that it had nothing to do with doing something right
  • Oh it was clever all right, what I've come to know as KHan clever... . Too smart for its own good.
  • I need to pull my cart out again and find this Easter Egg.
  • I played Study Hall pretty regularly since release, but to be fair, I did ask for a hint.

(From the other Study Hall thread.)

Lol, I'm too "by the book" with my gaming to ever try to find Easter Eggs.  Every time I saw those test questions I was like "Yay, easy bonus points!"

Nice job finding the Easter Egg!

Of course! I will update once I receive it.
  • Good news, everyone! Guess what came in the mail...

And the game is not exclusive as previously thought. So many of your have already played it. This is what was in a demo state at the time and has been fully realized:

    image

I actually received it Tuesday but I wanted to wait to post until I had a chance to play it. Wow, this game is addictive. Thanks a million KHAN Games!
  • Shoutout to Khan for making this. I finally got to play my game tonight. My fiance kept it "safe" until Christmas and I had to play a few stages after I unwrapped it. I made it to stage 13 before I got stumped and turned off the NES. These stages really make you want to scratch your noggin!

    Crap, wrong thread!
