about $$$$ i think prices will go down.. in about 10 year all interrest for the nes will be gone or down.
People will go on with there lives (kids etc) and most people that are from the 80's will be in there 40's and i don't see me playing nes then.
I think dreamtr see's this and comes with these proto's now (the peak of nes nostalgia)and wants to cash in before the bubble bursts (something like the internet bubble)or he is in need of cash?
Fallen Angel, I don't think you know the NES market very well if you think prices will come down. They have only gone "up" as it is. If anything, it still has not reached its ultimate peak. You forget people in their 40s have the most income at their peak earning level and I can tell you that Atari 2600 big time collectors are much older than us, and have more money.
Roth: You just completely made no sense with your own reasoning. Frogger is kind of the same but different? Using a name for a product that is not your own and owned by someone else is the same thing regardless of what you are talking about. It all falls under the same category. If you don't "feel right" about this, you shouldn't "feel right" about Frogger either regardless of it being a new game. It's still using someone else's property name. Roth, it's like you're trying to moderate a debate that isn't even making sense when your own justifications for the protos don't even have merit.
Now, as for these screenshots...you guys realize NGD is the one that created the other threads, correct? NGD HAS screenshots to all of these games. I gave him shots of UForce, War on WHeels,Exerion...he has them all...heck, if you google War on Wheels, there are screens of it on the web that I took awhile ago, but that is besides the point.
War on Wheels is off the table because $5000 is a lot of money, but I'm sure people want it CIB so the investment on it is high. The only real way to do it is have a full blown release but I'm not going to be involved in that, I would rather someone else do it and let them make money or whatever, but again, more failure to realize I traded a gray NWC for it. If I had that extra gray NWC I would sell it because it had a mint label, hence $5000. I traded a GOLD NWC for Squashed 8-9 years ago and everyone plays it like nothing happened because it was FREE for them not realizing how much it COST me to get it, so I really don't want to hear about a one of a kind game being "too expensive". There are still more gold NWCs than Squashed protos out there, but some people don't understand the sacrifices it takes to get some of these, so if you feel $5000 is a lot of money for something no one else seems to have, but think it's okay to pay $1200-1500 apiece for Panesian games which are much more plentiful, I'm not sure what to think...
DreamTR, regardless of the game I used as an example, I was just trying to make a point as to the selling of just the program as compared to selling the hardcopy. I see what you are saying, but my point is still valid, I feel. "Kind of the same but different" was meaning it's a homebrew, and not an older prototype.
If there are screenshots, then they should be used in the threads. It just helps add to the overall presentation. That was one of my main concerns as stated earlier, the informing the buyer thing.
Your thoughts on if the releases are too close together for people's budgets?
Fallen Angel, I don't think you know the NES market very well if you think prices will come down. They have only gone "up" as it is. If anything, it still has not reached its ultimate peak. You forget people in their 40s have the most income at their peak earning level and I can tell you that Atari 2600 big time collectors are much older than us, and have more money.
I haven't commented on anything in this thread mostly because I don't care one way or the other, but it is COMPLETE SPECULATION as to what the future NES market will do. For every person who thinks the NES market will go up I can also find someone with equally compelling justification for the other side of the argument.
It's just a hell of a coincidence that all of the people with large collections are the ones saying the market will go up forever, because they have the most money invested so far. Sellers don't drive market prices, buyers do.
Also, I know I'll have more money to spend when I'm 40, but I hope I have bigger priorities in life than NES collecting at that point. You know, savings for my children's college fund, buying a nice house, etc. While your amount of income may be greater then, I'd like to think your bills and responsibilities will increase in a comparable ratio. Right now, lots of guys in their 20s and 30s have plenty of disposable income so I really think we are nearing the peak of NES before SNES takes off, then N64, etc.
I'm not claiming I'm right, but it is pretty foolish to discount the other side of the fence when you can easily provide the justification. How many items (Caltron for example) have we seen end at absurdly low levels that just get shrugged off as one time fluke sales? Apparently we need a thread for "Items that sold WELL below expected value" to track the actual downturn of the market (when or if it occurs).
It's just a hell of a coincidence that all of the people with large collections are the ones saying the market will go up forever, because they have the most money invested so far. Sellers don't drive market prices, buyers do.
You have it backwards. They have large collections because they believe in the future.

Maybe I'm naive, but I thought most people collected on these boards because they enjoy the NES and enjoy the hobby, not because they think they'll make some crazy profit figure in the future.
I consider myself to have a "large collection", i.e. most people would consider me weird and it takes up way too much room. When I said "large collection" I mean STUPID LARGE like top 10-20 people on this forum. I still don't "believe in the future" but that's okay because I only want to keep meaningful titles like Mega Mans / Marios / etc. and plan on selling off the rest of my stuff in the not too distant future.
Roth: It does not matter. It still uses the Frogger name, so like I said, it makes no sense.
The releases might be a little too close together because the "hype" of a new game is not there. MTIPP, Campus Challenge, Uforce, and now Exerion all in a few months...but after ages of NO releases, it's like Christmas =P
Joneboro: Of course it's speculation, but you look at market history of past systems and with the Virtual Console keeping things like the NES fresh in everyone's minds, a whole new clan of people will be weened on these games. History says the NES has still not peaked entirely yet, and that's what I'm going by.
To clarify about collections: I have a large collection because it's my hobby. I don't collect doubles/triples/quadruples of anything except for Faria =P and I don't want to sell any of this stuff anytime soon. I know I can't take it with me, so assuming when I am older, I might want to sell it off as a whole (imagine what that will be like) or have a museum with it all, who knows, but 15,000 games not even including arcade is a big chunk of change no matter how you look at it....and I know I spent a chunk to get it, but used profits ffrom buy/sell to get most the stuff I have
Roth: It does not matter. It still uses the Frogger name, so like I said, it makes no sense.
DreamTR, it _does_ make sense. Use any other game besides that one. Battle Kid, Dragon Skill, whatever. You know what I was getting at, so there's no need to try and make me look stupid : P My point was flawed with the character use, but the premise I was getting at was the same in terms of selling someone else's program. So it does make sense. This seems to be unavoidable in the grand scheme of how things are going right now, so it's kinda moot.
Just thought I'd respond so I'm not made to look like an idiot haha
dragonlunch: if there really is no supposed "value" on the proto market for things, how can you honestly say it's "overpriced?"
Let me give you an example. I would NOT have sold Tyson for $1500, nor would I sell Exerion II for $750. You haven't been around the proto market buying/selling as long as I have, so you can't say what it takes to acquire said protos.
8-9 years ago I was HATED because I would outbid people on protos, but it was usually groups that wanted to dump them, and I always had to pay handsomely. If groups of people were willing to pay at least $1500 for crappy unreleased protos on eBay, how can you think these are overpriced? There's no justification of that. Heck, eBay auctions alone for unreleased stuff I have seen close to $2000 many many years ago, and I'm pretty sure with the demand for repros and groups out there now, there would be some heavy hitters on some of these, but they're definitely not overpriced. If something is one-of-a-kind, I'm not sure how you can overprice it because once the data is dumped, no one wants the proto.
IM saying if the community is paying for the value of the cart, the cart should enter the communities hand, and be on display for community events.

Your use of fair just isn't accurate. If he had a deal with you where you bought a box of protos together and you two split them but after they arrive he changed the agreed upon rules of the split to get the ones he wanted , That is not fair. When the rules are stated up front and the rules are followed then you can't say something isn't fair. You can say the price is high or more than the game is worth. You don't even have to like it. but to say unfair imples something I haven't seen here.
If he takes the 5k and pulls a Hounder THAT would not be fair. If he pulls a bait an switch and dumpes another game instead THAT would not be fair. Changing the rules along the way is not fair. It is his game and he gets to set the rules so play or don't play.
Ok.. you obviously knew what I ment when I said fair.. as people very commonly use it the way I did.. but for the sake of if, just change all my "fair"s to "unreasonable"s.. as your grasping at straws, and trying anything to water down a legitimate arguement with out offering any real return.
Thank you Arch, for giving me a better word.

Jone dont forget, this is comming from a lurker . I wouldnt be surprised if there were several lurkers looking for great deals on NA, then hoarding the stuff away for hopes of profit in the future.
ROth: Yes, your point would have made more sense if you did not mention the Frogger to begin with, but again, go back and re-read exactly WHY it's EASIER to just get the game out in the open now then actually trying to dig for permission from whoever owns the rights. I must have written that numerous times already in this thread, but you seem to be overlooking it.
dragonlunch: You just completely overlooked that those numbers are not what I value the cart at. If you want to know what I actually would sell War on Wheels for, it's closer to $10,000, and not $5000, so the "actual" value of what I would sell the cart for and have it be on display and not in my hands anymore is significantly higher, similar to a CGE Expo running museum thing. I'm trying to offer these cheaper than what it would take for me to actually sell the things, but I keep getting people upset that "you just want to keep a cart" and not even taking into consideration time/effort it went through to get contacts and find these things. I still have people I have been talking to for YEARS to get items that I still do not have, so this is not some once and done process with games...
Again, this is more of a morality issue that people seem to have a problem with. It boils down to whether or not people want to see new releases whether it be from old games or not. If you don't like my terms which I don't think are unfair at all, the games stay with me, but this thread isn't created to "help" anything, all it is going to do is irritate and make it that much easier for people new to the scene to NOT want anything to do with releasing more games in the future; it's another one of those not seeing the whole picture issues. I know a lot of people are in agreement with me, and others are basically upset that they can not dictate where something should go that is not in their possession, but that's ridiculous.
I mean, if everyone wants my stuff, someone can go and get me a couple of NWCs (gold and gray) back for some of these games that I had to get, but no one lines up to do that, LOL
I don't think Dream is doing anything wrong at all. Even if he wanted $10,000K he would be within his rights to ask that and i would still have no problem with it.
Seems like others disagree.
If members do not want to be a part of something or contribute to what Dream is offering, why can't you let those who wish to contribute do it in peace? It seems that those willing to pay for these dumps do not care, so why should you if it isn't your money?
If you think it is shady or unethical or not 'right', who cares, lots of what goes on this site could be said to be not 'right' and people still do it and those who are not interested keep to their own.
Not sure what the big deal is here. Looks to me like a bunch of haters attacking Dream for nothing.
After all, it was his hardwork and sacrifice that allowed him to gather such a massive collection. Not any of the people complaining on here.
And yes, it is complaining and whining that you are doing imo.
It looks like dreamtr completly lost it.(and maximus clean also)
$10.000 for war on wheels? The cart..
Come on man.. you can get a nwc gold for that money.
10.000 for a nes cart.When i think about it.
It just makes me sick..its almost pervers.
Man..maybe im not a real nes fan but i have about 50 nes games now and i picked them up cheap and play them its a hobby.I put a little money in it..and it stays fun.

Wow this..my brain hurts.
That is the price he wants he sets the price, luckily it appears you are not interested in it so that doesn't matter.
I doubt you could get a NWC gold for 10,000 those don't show up to often.
Relax it doesn't affect you so don't worry be happy
FallenAngel: Gold NWCs have sold for up to $15,000. $10K would not even cut it, and a CIB Stadium Events hits close to that. Not sure how I've lost it...you ever seen the money people pay for factory sealed games, or all the people that put NES games with BIN and BEST offers in the high thousands? At least there is only ONE known War on Wheels right now. You should see how much I want for my Zelda proto if you think $10,000 is a lot for War on Wheels, LOL...I remember when Jollerancher was asking silly prices for his stuff, and he ended up getting them for the most part...
Anyone who has dealt with me knows I am ALWAYS offering the best deals on released stuff when I sell, so it's pretty hilarious when I am getting chastised for pricing one of a kind items, LOL
People are arguing in circles now, and this has very much turned into a DreamTR needing to defend himself thread, despite its original intentions.
Basically other than a few smart posts scattered throughout, this has turned into nothing but a whine sessions about the price again. Nobody has actually presented any rational arguments about why Dream should charge less than what he is asking, aside from "we don't get anything but a software file." Here's a debate-oriented question then, to hopefully get things slightly back on track:
What if we took whatever price the proto owner has requested for his ROM dump, and just auto-tacked $1500 (or whatever getting carts and labels made costs) onto it to make it a cart release, then just stopped this whole ROM issue? Then everyone who donates gets something physical to hold on to, and after the initial release no more carts are made. The ROM is made available at a later date (6 months or something) and so everyone gets it, but the cart owners got something special by donating and getting to play the game earlier. We could even make like and LE release or something as an incentive?
FallenAngel, it's not crossing a border. Collecting ANYTHING can get this high or even more. You just aren't educated in the items. What you CHOOSE to collect and how much you want to spend is not a valid argument in the thread. You think some comic books are worth $100,000? ANY collecting circle has stuff that is high end that people "will not pay for" because of the usual "use the money for something else" speech. Heck, you could say that about anything. Going out to drink, smoking, everything is a waste of money and we are just renting our life on this earth anyway!

Hmm im not a pro,so maybe i should say no more about the price and google more, but im not spending more then 15 euro a game (lol).Good comment about renting your life on earth puts everything in a different perspective.
BTW: are there really comic books worth: $100.000 or was that a sarcastic joke?
Well, no worries about War on Wheels anymore, it's off the table... =P the only one we're doing now is Exerion II and I'm closing up shop on those after that sans the two "random" releases of games off the shelf that you guys can pilfer through to find differences...that should be fun
I really hope that all this so called debate hasn't caused this DreamTR.
I would be very sad and all of us who really care will be at a huge loss without the release of more. I don't think very many people really realizes the huge impact on the NES collecting community you have provided, your hard work has earned my respect and admiration. I would gladly pay your prices if I had the money and will certainly be calling on you if I ever do.
It is of my opinion owning a one of a kind proto is far more prestigious than owning a CIB SE or NWC any day, between the two of those there is hundreds of copies. I would give up my entire colection just for War of Wheels or any other one of a kind unreleased undumped proto.
marvelus: it's just off the table for "now", but I would like to get it as a CIB to people one of these days, I just don't want to be the one to do it people are always going to have opinions, nothing wrong with that, but nesguy was right in saying no one really has any substantial disagreements about the whole thing, it's just "how certain people feel" about it. Remember when NoFriendo yelled at me about prices and yelled about trying to get $2500 or so for a gray NWC not even two years ago? Same precendent, people just yelling to yell on high end stuff when the price wasn't even close to being out of line...

there are definitely lots of comics that are 100k+. The most desirable book, action 1, is worth 100k in any condition at all if complete with cover and all pages. (A real ugly copy just sold for that). A nicer copy sold for about 320k recently. The nicest copy in existence would be worth over a mil if it ever sold.

is not fair. It is his game and he gets to set the rules so play or
don't play.
Ok.. you obviously knew what I ment when I said fair.. as people very commonly use it the way I did.. but for the sake of if, just change all my "fair"s to "unreasonable"s.. as your grasping at straws, and trying anything to water down a legitimate arguement with out offering any real return.
Thank you Arch, for giving me a better word.
You have it backwards. They have large collections because they believe in the future.
Jone dont forget, this is comming from a lurker
It looks like dreamtr completly lost it.(and maximus clean also)

That is the price he wants he sets the price, luckily it appears you are not interested in it so that doesn't matter.
I doubt you could get a NWC gold for 10,000 those don't show up to often.
Relax it doesn't affect you so don't worry be happy
Anyone who has dealt with me knows I am ALWAYS offering the best deals on released stuff when I sell, so it's pretty hilarious when I am getting chastised for pricing one of a kind items, LOL
I really meant to say that i think your crossing a border here if you spend or ask that amount of money.
Like i said im new to collecting and maybe im a greedy dutch guy(the other side of the spectrum in stead of the captialism American)
But ill never pay more then 15 euro for a nes game.
Seriously man, you're pathetic...
Edit: My post is in regard to Fallen Angel
I would give up my entire colection just for War of Wheels or any other one of a kind unreleased undumped proto.
seriously man ,there are a lot of other dutch members here.
We also have a dutch only nes site palrocks.nl but this is a worldwide inernet site.(im already sorry i brought the sarcasm thing up)

there are definitely lots of comics that are 100k+. The most desirable book, action 1, is worth 100k in any condition at all if complete with cover and all pages. (A real ugly copy just sold for that). A nicer copy sold for about 320k recently. The nicest copy in existence would be worth over a mil if it ever sold.
Just a loose first wrap (first interior piece of paper after the cover) sold for around 5k recently I think (just ONE PAGE of the book), and this 50% of a front cover sold for 7k recently http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=3097285&fpart=1
