Helicopter guy killed me. Had never been that far before so didn't know what to expect. Got back there a second time with no deaths though ( a day later). Thanks nunchuck!
Did this ever happen to you? Which game? What did you do afterwards? Fell free to share the pain here, this game made me pretty salty.
If somebody answers "No" to this, then they clearly didn't grow up with the original systems.
And it probably happened in most games, at least once
Though my absolute most frustrating instance was dying during a fight with Chaos on Final Fantasy and then having my save wiped because the system got jostled.

That has happened with me on FF1, LoZ, and Dragon Warrior 1 back in the day. All because a pet or family member walked by the NES with heavy feet.

I don't think I've lost a save on any of the others... though I have a VAGUE memory of my dad accidentally deleting my LoZ game (not that it's tough to catch back up there).
How about this: Getting far into a game, and the game glitching up/console shuts off?
My Castlevania does this on the Grim Reaper level, especially when you spam holy water.
But that's the only easy way to kill him, right?
I had a problem with my NES as a kid, mainly when I left it on and went to school (No saving on most games back then), then come back to find it all glitched up because my mom vacuumed.
Not exactly the same, but in college, I set up my NES with SMB3 during finals week. My roommates and I would just pick it up and play after a final or when we needed a study break. The last time I played it, I was on world 6 or 7, and then I had to get back to studying. The next day, I went to beat a couple of levels, and when I turned on the TV, the game was frozen in the middle of a level. Someone had started a level, jostled the NES, and then just left it running with the TV off so no one would know. No one fessed up, and it was too near the end of the week to start over. I was really upset about that one.
I have a NES toploader so fortunately games only crash due to programming errors and not from other issues, as long as the cart is clean. The Battletoads "Rat Race" glitch would be extremely annoying.
I did have an issue in PS2 "God of War" where the game would keep freezing during the Aries battle, so I had to replay the final boss fights a few times before I could finally beat it. However, I didn't have to start over from the beginning of the entire game.
The first Ninja Gaiden sets you much further back when you die at the boss than it would if you had just died before the boss.
God damn I hate the developers at Tecmo... what a bullshit move. They did equally shitty stuff in all 3 games... which is such a shame, because damn those games are so good!

At first it hurts, but it forces you to get good at the last act.
At least the first two games have the decency to refill your health or put a health powerup right before the final bosses. The American "Ninja Gaiden III" doesn't even do that. No refill in the final stretch. You have to learn to play the last level nearly flawlessly. But it makes it all the more rewarding if you can beat the game.

It mostly freezes when you use holy water in the hallway with the knights. I never am able to get to the Reaper with holy water for that reason.
If I use the boomerang, I can get to him, but it'll occasionally freeze even with that.
I actually had that happen too. That was the first and only time (so far) that I made a serious attempt at beating the game too
I believe the first version (PRG-0) does that due to bad bankswitching programming. The second version also does that sometimes, I remember my copy (Which is a PRG-1) freezing at the door between the birds and hunchbacks and Frankenstein. I suspect the invincibility I picked up before to be the cause. Also fun fact, I had exactly 100000 points when it froze, I might still have a pic somewhere.
Ghostbusters. One time many many years ago I made it up the stairs only to die at the last guy. I'm pretty sure I've never played it since. for years that was the only game in my childhood collection I never beat.
Vec, I hope in all your games death at the last boss is imminent .
Ohoho, don't worry, I've got an amazing idea for the last boss of Brony Blaster!
As for the topic, I almost got my ass kicked by the Plutonium Boss in Blaster Master yesterday, but I did beat the game in the end! I believe I woke up the whole neighbourhood when I finished it
Double Dragon 3 is a big one I'm still trying to get past. Most games I've beaten I died on the last boss multiple times at some point. That's how you have to learn the boss patterns.
Congo's Caper.... WTF?
That last boss is ridiculous. Maybe I'm missing something, but the third boss (hopefully last) that comes out is BRUTAL. First two I can take care of easily, but the third one just kicks my ass. I've only played the game like 3 times. So maybe that's a factor. I died on the last boss like 20 times though. There's a metric fuck ton of free lives in that game.
I didn't understand what I could and couldn't do in Snow Bros. but I finally got to the end of the game and died on the boss. After figuring what that I could use enemies are weapons the game didn't seem so hard and I finally beat it a few months later.
I also couldn't beat the final boss on Whop Em'. That boss is ridiculous for no reason

Ugg...The most recent time I played Captain SkyHawk the game glitched at the last boss (Alien Space Station) screen and froze the game. This sucks more then dying I think.

I'm pretty sure it's the early Castlevania releases. I've had it happen with two different five screws.

I will never make Jackie Chan proud
Got to the last level, beat the Wingate boss. Set the controller down to take a drink. Get killed. Game over. I forgot you have to kill 2 Wingates.

Ninja Gaiden!
Is this thread serious...?
Ninja Gaiden!
Haha, that's kind of what I was thinking....
Yeah, duh! It's still happening, and it sucks!
